Should we have seen the engineer at the start?

i think that if it is true the theory by which the SJ drinking the goo is the one sent to earth to create humans to give SJ an other "hope", they should have shown it at the very end, allowing people to understand better. Anyway, there are too many unanswered questions ....

Any suspense was ruined by the TRAILERS,
personally i think the engineer at the start was ok, it set the scene. it was one of the best bits of the film.
You want to start poking holes or start saying "would it be better if.." for prometheus, you don't have to try so hard :)
>>"a lot more tension in the film leading up to the reveal of the engineers"
they should have got rid of that scene with the head reanimation. that got a well earned groan from people nearby in the cinema when i watched it.

Too much revealed in the trailers, including how the Prometheus crashes into and disables the Space Jockey Ship.

How long would you want someone to wait to see the SJ/Engineer? We did wait 30+ years right? I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure from glancing at a few reviews there will be bigger mysteries.

I was pleasantly surprised that we got to discover the Engineers right from the start rather than wait for the climax of the movie, or some sort of plot twist. There was no better way to introduce them, since they're the center of the plot. anyway.

I think a lot of the suspense was taken away with the trailers. They showed you pratically every good bit from the film.
Im not entirely sure showing the engineer at the start was a good thing either.

The scene of the engineer dismantling his DNA at the beginning of the film was important as it showed our beginning.... How the cells arrived on earth
I think there are far bigger things to talk about... such as why the hell did the geologist guy (cant remember his name) go crazy and kill multiple people?
let alone the whole first ever alien having no means of gathering further dna unless we assume that their are multiple dormant engineers on all of the ships on the planet.
Any thoughts?

The geologist was infected by the alien. When he arrived outside the ship he legs were over his head dude? He was real messed up.
If by Alien you are referring to Xeno I am sure they were shown on the murals. It looked like it to me anyway.
Which is confusing as hell as that like something to worship? I really wish there was more dialogue between the Engineer and the crew.
They obviously intended to infect everyone on earth but why? Especially when the beings they create want to kill them?

I just watched Alien Resurrection again and I think I know why there is going to be little dialogue between the engineer and the crew. It is pretty much understood by now that the Xenos are biological weapons that cannot be controlled no matter how you try.
That being said, I think showing the engineer at the start is a good thing. It does not spoil much and we already did see the engineer at the beginning of Alien, albeit with a hole in the chest.

In answer to the question, no, and I for one didn't see the big humanoid and think, Aha, a Space Jockey.
We don't realise until later that the elephant looking face of the SJ is in fact a helmet and not it's face!
(But I avoided the trailers prior to seeing the movie)

I thought he looked good. William Blake-esque.
