Did anyone feel the same way ?
The score in the trailer was unbelievably brilliant....in true Alien style.
But Marc Streitenfeld's attempt was forgettable.
Shame

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:34 PMThe soundtrack for the most part was forgettable, only the parts that harked back to the original Alien movie stood out for me. I loved the original 79' score, it created such an atmosphere around the movie, but this time around the music just didn't seem to capture the moment.

Promethian Man
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:43 PMI didn't like the soundtrack at all, and the major main theme I thought was too jovial and entirely inappropriate on all levels.
A score to match Goldsmith or Horner would have been welcomed. There are some great composers out there whose music can raise the notch on ordinary movies and make them great.
This Streitenfeld is not one of them. It was complete wallpaper music.

Hadley's Hope
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:49 PMI was wondering if someone else raised this. I agree, it was far too jovial, (and the whole thing was too bright as well, even in the darkened spaceship)
One scene that comes to mind, is the scene where David is watching the holograms in the bridge. To my mind, what is suggested by the various planets coming up, and then only earth being left, is that the Engineers/Space Jockeys have Eliminated all the life on those planets, and Earth is the remaining one, or at least is the target for that particular ship. This is a very menacing prospect, but the music suggests awe, grandeur, and delight in the spectacle, a realisation that we are connected to other life, with no change of beat to say... "and it wants to wipe you out in a horrible fashion".

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:57 PMThank you!!! I have seen a lot of posts praising the sound and I assumed they meant the soundtrack. I found it to be very inappropriate. It is in a major key (or at least ends in a major note) which has an uplifting quality not unlike something you might find in the denouement of a star trek film. It definitely took the edge off of what was happening on screen and I'm surprised at Ridley Scott allowing this as he has praised the original alien score many times.
Yet another let down. Dangit.

Promethian Man
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:03 PMI'm glad other fans too have picked up on the poor nature of the music.
Unless Ridley Scott is a genius in that he intended the jovial ( Jupiter-like ) score to conflict with the Promethean aspect of the film, seeing as it was Jupiter/Zeus who punished Prometheus?
But I think not, and I'm unduly giving Ridley a free-pass on this point!
The score, and more particularly the theme, was on of the worst I've heard in yonks.

Custodian
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 1:20 AMI loved the orchestral soundtrack, it added a mature pathos to the adventure.
