Why were the engineers running in the hologram?

No, there was no answer. We can only assume one of their creations went on a killing spree since there was a pile of engineer bodies with chest buster sizes holes

They where messing about with xenos by the looks of things. Then they turned on the engineers. The question is though where the hell is the xenos? Or maybe its a engineer thats been infected, starts to mutate and go crazy? as TheNextLV426 says we can only assume

Well, i think they built a GREAT temple - but their mistake was, they had only ONE LITTLE TOILET! Thats why they ran after having a bad engineers chilli con carne... trust me!

Jokes apart I believe they were running from an outbreak. If you notice, the last engineers is getting weaker as the hologram progress, falling twice. I believe he was exposed to something. It could be something in the air. At least that would explain why all the engineers were using space suites in a breathable environment. An scene that confirms he was exposed to something happens in the lab when they examined his head and traces of the black liquid appears. One thing I wonder, why they are running to the canisters' room? Why all the engineers seems to seek shelter in that room? I think the green crystal might have a relationship with that. Any thoughts?

First thought: black goo out of control. Second thought: why were they running *to* the ampule room.? So...? (Delerium?)

@dtrisml I have a theorie that the crystal is some kind of emergency measure in case of an outbreak. If activated, a species of face-huggers could break lose and infect any compatible life-form eventually generating xenomorphs that could easily wipeout any standing threat. As the life cycle of a xenomorph is short, they also would die in matter of days leaving the environment in quarantine 'clean'. This would explain the piled bodies of engineers with burst holes and why they all ran to the crystals' chambers. Any thoughts?

I'm happy to find this thread, I been looking for answer to this. So if the engineers bodies had chest burster holes, that means the aliens pop out of their chest, then where are all those aliens that pop out then?
