An American Fan in London (Spoliers)

Hello everybody: I finally had the opportunity to see Prometheus. I actually work and live in California, but after my profit sharing check came in, my partner and I flew to London for a short stay, and of course, to see Prometheus. First of all, let me say that I have appreciated all the various reviews posted by different members on this site. I believe all of them to be wholly accurate, so there is little more I can say about the movie. Ultimately, I was disappointed, but not because the movie was bad per say. I was disappointed for two main reasons: 1) All of the hype 2.) And all of my time spent on this site speculating about the plot, and seeking out spoilers. I do think this movie is set up for a sequel, and it really needs to happen, because I don't think Prometheus can stand by itself. It doesn't really work as a stand alone film, and the whole scene with the chest-bursting "xeno" at the end came across forced, as if it really wasn't what RS had originally intended to do. I think this film would have worked better had the whole 'Alien' thing been absent from the film altogether. Look at it this way: it was an all or nothing thing. You can't have your hand half way in the cookie jar and expect to be satisfied. RS should have either made it a true direct prequel, or not at all. This half and half business, like watered down fruit punch, was really a let down. The movie could have worked, and I wish they would have explored more of the Space Jockey/Engineer. I could care less about the "xeno". Tell me more about the SJ. Hopefully a "Prometheus 2" will help complete the story he's started, because I truly found it fascinating, minus all of the "Alien DNA" crap.

ty for your review :) i think the problems everyone will have watching Prometheus the 1st time are 1) you look like a desperate waiting links to alien 2) you wait to see every scene you already know ( and you know already almost all ) so the 2nd time work ALOT better since you can taste every scene with pleasure and everything look much more coherent

But here's the funny part. I'm still a fan, and I will likely buy it on DVD and get the soundtrack as well. Oh, and I'll probably see it again this Friday too. Besides, the next time go, I plan to pay more attention to some of details I may have missed.

I totaly agree with Frantz and the rest of the gang....dear azalard you have to spent 1 year of your free time to watch again and again the film in order to discover and appreciate every single meaning..meanwhile you should ask for benefits from your local theater management since you are a regular...such as free coctails ....at the end you will discover that the sweet taste of caipirinia going down your throat, opens a link direct into your prefrontal lobe ..and then all of the sudden the ''smokes'' are lifted!!!

Rubbish guys. The average moviegoer does not go to the movies to watch the same movie 50 times to understand its deeper meaning.

@ TheNext... I agree with you for the most part. I don't plan to watch Prometheus again because I want to find the hidden meanings. If anything, I would like to see some of the details I may have missed the first time around. Needless to say, I really did enjoy the film, and despite it's flaws, I plan to watch it again no matter what. Thanks for your input guys!

@greek. Sorry man I thought it was leading up to another "your not intelligent enough for this movie" rant. People go to the cinema to be entertained not to make up their own story to go with the pretty pictures on screen. @azalard I will watch Prometheus again, just not now. Im not going to pay for the pleasure and I need time to get over the disapointment.

This movie was not written and directed for the fans, but the general public. As much as we would like it to be, when investing millions of dollars in a project, one must look at the larger picture. Fox would never green light a picture that did not appeal to the general population and thus the story must be told accordingly. This sites population lies on the fringe of the population bell-curve and thus our views and influence are at best secondary and most importantly insignificant to the money-holders (producers and investors). I am thankful this film was made in the first place and there will be more. Thanks @azalard for the review, I totally understand your point of view. Wish I could have been in the UK for the opening...

Save yourself some money and just download it if you want to see it again. Giving them more money just encourages future bad behaviour.

Hi all Unfortunately, due to a medical condition I am unable to watch movies in the cinema so have to wait till they come out on DVD so I have longer to wait than everyone. Thanks for all the reviews and pics. Hopefully it will be out on DVD for Christmas.
