MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:41 PMas of today the Metascore is 57/100...it was 79 or so upon Euro release. IMDB rating is dropping too, currently 7.9
(LINK)
My question is...how low will it go?
Genre comparisons:
Phantom Menace - 51 and 6.4
Matrix Reloaded - 62 and 7.1
Planet of the Apes - 50 and 5.6
Mission to Mars - 34 and 5.3

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:45 PMIt will be borderline certified fresh on rottentomatoes. It will get the "certified fresh" tag though, even if the percentage drops slightly after reaching 75%. It will struggle to get greenlighted on Metacritic, it will probably end up with a 65/67 metacritic score

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:47 PMHopefully it will get higher, cos its much above those movies.
I have beef with some critics, being really naive and alien-centric about the whole movie. Some of the apparent errors can be easily read into or defined. I think its like marmite, you either get it and love it, or dont quite get, or just plain hate it, due to apparent bad script and what not (i've listened to worse - i.e. The whole star wars prequel trilogy)

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:52 PMI.e. BAD STAR WARS QUOTES -
'Oh Ani hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo. When there was no politics or war, just our love' - Padme
'Are you an angel?' - Ani
'A What?' - Padme
'An Angel, I hear the space pilots talking about them, theyre the most beautiful creatures in the universe.' - Ani
'OO my boy I love you' - Jar Jar
I could keep going

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:58 PMDo these ratings actually tell us anything about a movie though? I've always found them kinda pointless
Someone keeps mentioning rotten tomatoes to me as if it's the word of god (or SJs whatever)
Ive since pointed out to him that RT currently has a score of 87% of people liking it which is taken from roughly 35,000 people who took the time to rate it that's only around 28,000 people who like the movie out of hundreds of thousands that have seen it that's a very small percentage unless everybody took the time to rate the movie objectively who has seen it what is the point
As for critics I don't trust them as far as I can drop kick a land rover
The only review any body should care about is their own

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:09 PM@mr pest of course they don't tell us about the movie. it's not like people will or will not see it based on these numbers.
but that being said, when was the last time a truly GREAT movie did not have a decent rating on any of these aggregated review sites.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:09 PMI love the film, thought it was great, i've read loads of reviews and disagree on many points.
Were some people were a bit baffled, I got it. So me happy.
Cant wait for a sequel.
@mr pest - totally agree

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:12 PMLooks like Prometheus is getting the same reception as it's director's sci-fi predecessor Blade Runner.
I'm sure when a sequel is out and more is explained (we're kinda still in the beginning phases of the whole thing really) im sure it will make more sense and be better appreciated

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:20 PMIt's still to early to tell anything with the film having such a limited release I just feel people to much stock in ratings of others
All I know is I hated it at 1st but it's growing on me which if I was rating it it'd be a 6/10 but then again who cares what I think
And like I said in my previous post I've had people on here use these ratings sites as a jufication to their argument it's a great movie because ....... 87% on rotten tomatoes ............ Imdb 7.9 yet they can't tell me why they rate the movie so highly and I think maybe this thread has copped a bit of my frustration so sorry guys

MemberDeaconJun-06-2012 4:47 PMThe end of the day the movie wll be defined by two things....
1) How fast it drops from the Box Office top 10..
2) How well the first 3 months DVD/Blu-Ray Sales do..
Not everyone who sees the movie will rate it on sites, and usually people only rant when they have complaints...
How many on here email or ring up your ISP or Cable TV company to say they are doing a great job?
How many would ring up or email if they are doing a poor job?

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 5:05 PM@Space Jockey - Chr1s You cannot compare this to Blade Runner. That was a movie, this is a guilty pleasure
