I thought the proto alien was ok. Different yet similar

lol...... What we have here is...... Xeno meets Cloverfield and Cuddles meets Cloverfield. Both nice work though..... Did you all see the unused concept work in the other thread? One of them was just like the Mural with the Engineer and a lifeform.

Those are awesome! Although I really liked the designs they came up with. Cuddles and the Proto-Xeno. I rather liked both of them! Different, yet still linked in the Alien DNA.

Although well done unto themselves, they really don't fit the Alien universe. Take a look at Giger's work and visualize the alien quality to the posted creations. The monsters posted above look fairly typical in alien design because most of the physical elements of these designs are borrowed from animals familiar on earth. What makes the original SJ in Alien so fantastic is not being able to tell where the creature begins and the machine ends. It's these mysterious elements that are unsettling. Fangs, tentacles and large muscles don't equal scary to me. In fact, they say to me, Nat Geo or Animal Planet. The original xeno is scary because it has a weird elongated translucent dome nestled on top of bone, pipes and unusual textures that are normally found in industrial design. Combined with metal teeth and other elements eluding to flesh, but is rusty. It would have been better to stay with Gigeresque designs since it is still in the Alien universe. I was pretty disappointed to see the SJ's looking so humanoid. I really felt these aliens should have looked WAY more far out, if Alien was any indication.
