MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 9:58 AMSeriously, I read his review and it was so cliche. He basically repeats everything Lindelof and Ridley said prior to the release; ''it's an interesting film because it's about who created us blablabla'' Same words from all other reviews just in a different order (or like Yoda would say; this movie is good - good, this movie is)
Since negative reviews are increasing every day, I bet FOX had to come up with an emergency plan. So, they know that a lot of people read his reviews, pays him a secret amount of money (and some hot porn chicks) to give this film 4/5 stars, even fox knew that 5 stars would give away their secret little collaboration to easily, who gives this film 5 stars?
There was no mention of the unfinished or broken script with all the plot holes. EVERY single review I've read so far honestly mentions this, but not Roger's.
His false review follows a strict pattern and doesn't want to answer the truth about the film; that the story sucked really badly.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:01 AMI havent read his review(and never will as Ive already seen the movie twice now) but just for fun, my guess is 1 mil.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:17 AMSomething like that. I saw it twice too
Twice the viewing - double the disappointment.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:22 AMI would say at least a million dollars since his reputation will be tarnished by this review.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:25 AM@Merc - Sorry to hear that man. Thankfully my 2nd time was easier for me.
Still a disappointment, but easier.

Love your avatar, and the name haha!
Yes, unfortunately money corrupts a lot of people. In this case, Roger Ebert.
When reading his review, you can just smell the cliches.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:44 AMI really think some of you are taking this a bit far. The one thing wrong with the movie is that it really is a "part 1." Aside from that, many of the negative opinions seems to be based on their interpretations of the film and not the film itself. Yeah, it's a lot like Lost in that there are unanswered questions. If that is your beef, fine. It did feel like part one of a miniseries in that fashion. However, if you judge it on what is there, instead of what is not, its really not bad. If they never continue the story, then yeah, I'll feel ripped off then. It's not Alien or Aliens...but it was never meant to be. I thought Scott was full of it when he kept saying it was not a alien prequel, but it turns out, he was telling the truth. Lots of you wanted what was not offered and are pissed. That's no reason to pan the movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 11:44 AMI think one have to be really silly to think that the most important reviewer EVER can be payed to make a positive review. That is also very offensive too.
The most important guy reviewing movies gave prometheus 4 stars ... haters have to swallow that .

Yes, and nobody paid to see Prometheus part 1!

What do you mean by that? There's no official explanation to all the unexplained things in the film!
It's not Alien or Aliens...but it was never meant to be
I never mentioned those films in the first place, but they do tell us a story. Prometheus fails to connect the dots that are scattered throughout the ending.
For me the purpose of a film is entertain, not ask questions, I get enough of that at work and when I get home I'd like to enjoy a film with a simple story.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 11:46 AMWell - but compare MATRIX part1 with PROMETHEUS Part 1.
Or compare Lord of the Rings Part 1 with PROMETHEUS Part 1.
You know what i mean?
Other big trilogies dont let you down so much with TO MANY NEW questions, they are "good stories in itself with an satisfaction guarantee" - the first part introduces the characters so you can feel empathy for them.
It makes you curious, and it makes you feel good, or happy, or scary, or whatever. Prometheus does not scare you when the lights go on - you just will think.. "..HEEE? What was THAT?.." You dont feel very much - just lil bit confused and you go for a beer .. or two.
But this prometheus storytelling reminds me waaay too much on LOST, which was simply "...mystery ... blahblahblah..listen to my story..something strange..blahblah..." and talking and talking and talking and NOTHING happens at all.
That may be interesting, AS LONG AS YOU WAIT THAT SOON IT WILL HAPPEN.
But after you realize, that this will NEVER happen what has been promised, you feel FOOLED. Thats Lindelofs strategy - fooling people with blah.

The most important guy !?
A guy who's name is Roger Ebert and reviews films? Regarding a paycheck, you and I don't know what happens behind the curtains.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 11:55 AM@ spacyfreak
I agree, and Matrix wasn't signed ''Ridley Scott'', so the expectations were not as high as Prometheus.
Yes, Lindelof likes to fool the audience with crap.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 12:27 PMSo Roger Ebert liked a film that you did not, therefore, he was paid by Fox.
Quite possibly one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. God forbid an individual have another opinion than yours.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 12:29 PMTo be fair to Prometheus, he gave Malick's The New World and Tree of Life four stars as well. Say what you want about Prometheus, but it will certainly be better than those two films.

Glad I hit a nerve there! BTW did you even read my topic? I was making a point, just in case you missed that!
And one other thing, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, whether you like it or not.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 12:11 AMi looked up Ebert's review of "Aliens" and he gave it 3 and a half stars.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 5:30 PMRoger Ebert has always been a sell out. I can't believe he really has any credibility any more anyway.
Wow - maybe it is knowing these guys got paid millions of dollars to put that weak of a movie that bugs me. I've been looking forward to this since the day I heard about it. Besides the money they spent to make it look good... the story is really horrible. I mean heck, promote the guy doing the preview... that was a 10... this movie in comparison was a 2. Really Roger you should be ashamed to be trying to get people to believe otherwise.
I don't think one silly thing added up??? Really.
I feel bad for the actors who trusted these guys. The actors did good... it's the two guys at the top to blame for this one. At least Ridley destroyed it and it wasn't something else. I think he should go pat James Cameron on the back - he proved he couldn't measure up and wouldn't have measured up had they given him the second one.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:13 AMHe and Richard Roeper are more famous critics. Who had endure the last couple of years of these 100 million dollar brainless block busters. Every once i n a while a Director makes a 100 million dollar movie that takes risks and explores big ideas. Is definitely going to get their critical love.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:20 AMPersonally I think Prometheus is ten Million times better than Aliens! I think it is a 50 million times better made film, and here's one for you, the dialogue in Prometheus is a gazillion times better than in Aliens and the Story Line of Aliens has more holes than swiss cheese compared to Prometheus which IMHO has none they are all imagined by Haters whom have never made a better film themselves but think they know better.

alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:25 AMpart 1? it was marketed as a stand alone film if they had taken the lord of the rings marketing strategy and informed everyone that would potentially see the film it's going to be a three parter, then i think people would look more favourably on the film but no it was marketed as a stand alone sc-fi with the dna of alien, somewhere towards the end... the last 8 mins i believe.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 10:54 AM2 things:
Ebert's maximum star rating is four, not five. So the original poster's assertion that Fox asked for a less than perfect rating as an attempt to disguise some sort of payoff is asinine.
Secondly, if you know anything about Roger Ebert and his recent bout with cancer, you'd understand that this man has come to terms with his existence and doesn't give a damn about money.
He doesn't share your opinion. It's not a conspiracy

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2013 10:15 PMAliens was ok in the 80's but today it's total cheese. Could you imagine those cliche Marines in a Vietnam or Iraq war movie? The audience would laugh at them. I don't even know how those bunch of bafoons got selected to go.
Also, in order to make Ripley strong, they had to make the men weak. I mean these guys were down right pathetic, all except Gorman, perhaps.
And even worse, they send around ten marines in a ship the size of Florida, and no one is left aboard? WTF?
I ate this nonsense up in the 80's and 90's. Ebert saw right through, from the get go and he was generous with his rating.
Now Alien...That's a masterpiece! Do a search for Rogers Four Star review.
