Function of the telescope/canon of SJ chair

Both- but the ampules wouldn't go through the telescope, they don't appear to be sturdy (or small enough) to be delivered in that fashion. Also, the end of the telescope appears to stay within the confines of the bridge and not protrude outside the hull. It could be that the actual delivery mechanism is much more subtle- for example, once the Juggernaut enters a planet's atmosphere, delivery of The Black Goo could be done via a fine mist or other projectile. The pilot would activate this mechanism from the console by pressing one of those mushy buttons. =)

Sorry I should have clarified that the "buttons" I'm talking about are actually sitting right on the face plate on the pilot's end of the telescope. They look similar to the plush buttons David was using to power on The Orrery in the film.

".actual delivery mechanism is much more subtle.." In line with this thinking this 'telescope serves at least two purposes since it is so obviosly a key component for Pilot use. A tool to select the moon/planet destination from the orrery display. Then when coser to the destination for a visual of the surface to target the goo placement. Since it so dangerous I think the goo would not be sprayed but dropped as is let the ampules start sprouting the deadly/changing goo when hitting the ground
