I have had time to digest it all and I feel that the movie answered what I wanted and gave a few more questions to be answered in the sequel.

Ask me anything about the movie that you found unclear and I will give the best answer I have from what I gathered.

How do you reconcile the fact that Damon Lindelof, the writer of the film, has said in interviews that there is no real explanation for the black goo. He said that they just made it do different things to different characters and left it open ended. If the writer of the film does not know what is how do you hope to explain it?

Merc7June 08, 2012
@Nick
Well if you're so smart, why don't you explain what exactly killed the engineers 2000 years ago.
Hint: they had holes in their chests.

spacyfreakJune 08, 2012
Aha.
Nice to find the ONLY PERSON IN THIS GALAXY who could have some answers.
My questions....
- what was the meaning of the beginning scene with sacrif. enginner? WHY is he doing that, and is that on earth?
- what are the engineers running away from?
- Why they did the holographs of their doings like how to handle the derelict ship? No security issue???
- why they wanted to kill mankind 2000 years ago and what did disturb their plan?
- why they even build mankind , for what purpose?
- why they came back to earth time after time and to different civilizations?
- did the engineers put the cavepaintings with starmap as an "invitation for a trap" or whats your conclusion?
- where did the worms come from - have they been in the cave before prometheus landed? why they did not "activate" the goo to come out?
- did even other creatures were able to "activate" the goo to start his deadly work?
- how shaw was able to use the medipot in mrs. fickers room without ANYONE regognizing what is going on there? no key at the door? privacy?
- why weyland kept as secret that he is on the ship? what difference would it have made if the crew knew he is there with them?
- why david infected holloway? curiosity `?

Vickers conversation with the captain established that this place was a military base so each urn carried its own genetic code.
Was the goo from a specific urn designed to create the snake creature or was it just a wild mutation of the worms found inside? I do not know.
What I DO know is the goo is the base form of different experimental organisms and requires a host to develop.
So I can understand why Lindelof left it open ended, the goo came from multiple urns so who knows what kind of mutations it caused.
The urn David took was (by chance) an earlier form of the Alien we all know.
Like David 1-8 the proto xeno we see is probably #4 and was in development.

Like David 1-8 the proto xeno we see is probably #4 and was in development.
The alien at the end CANNOT be a "proto xeno" (or progenitor). Although it is at least 2,000 years old, it is an advanced, sleeker, bigger, faster, better version of the ancient (1 million plus years old) version of the xeno bio-weapon seen in Alien. Did you notice the altar and green gem stone in front of the xeno mural? The xeno we knew WAS one of the "proto xenos". Don't you love the twist?

OK, I'll play. Here is my question:
Who is the dark-haired girl playing the violin implanted in David's memory? (I have the answer if you don't)

NickJune 08, 2012
@allinamberclad
Feel free to tell me what you didn't like about it.
Like I said I do not want: LOL UR DUMB PROMETHEUS WAS GAY.
What didn't you understand about the movie?

Shaw's_sweet_babyJune 08, 2012
Quote -"Who is the dark-haired girl playing the violin implanted in David's memory?"
That was not a memory... It was a greeting message to the engineers about the human race and its culture.
The girl is probably just some random person playing violin.

Shaw's_sweet_babyJune 08, 2012
Quote - "I have a question, why was the script so bad?"
That is simple... You just didn't get the movie's concept and story like we others who liked it.

@abordoli (Meet Prometheus-movie.com Members in Your Area) <--Click Me
That is Shaw as a child probably, if not it could be a random child but I would suspect Shaw.

Merc7
That planet was an experimental weapons lab essentially.
When David observes the panel JUST before they jockey hologram appears he finds slime on the panel (A reference to Alien) so clearly one of the MANY experimental creatures if not the actual Alien itself broke out and killed them all.
I can understand why they would not return to the planet, they are smarter than that.
---
@spacyfreak
what was the meaning of the beginning scene with sacrif. enginner? WHY is he doing that, and is that on earth?
The entire movie revolves around Shaw proving that they made us, that engineer we saw drank that liquid (no relation to the urn goo I suspect) which broke his dna down and rewrote it to form us so it is probably earth.
--
- what are the engineers running away from?
As I stated with Merc7, that planet was an experimental weapons lab full of all sorts of bio creatures we have never seen before.
It is pretty clear that something got out of control and wiped out the crew there, what it was I do not know.
--
why they wanted to kill mankind 2000 years ago and what did disturb their plan?
Perhaps they made us to test weapons on and things got out of control before they could, perhaps they made us because they wanted to but I doubt they ALL shared the same ideals.
I expect this to be answered in the next movie.
--
- why they even build mankind , for what purpose?
Once again that will probably get answered in the next movie but some ideas I had were:
They made us to test their bio weapons on.
They made us because they wanted too, but others didn't like that idea and wanted us dead.
We will find out soon.
--
- why they came back to earth time after time and to different civilizations?
Perhaps they came back to nurture us and make sure we were on the right path.
--
- did the engineers put the cavepaintings with starmap as an "invitation for a trap" or whats your conclusion?
Honestly I do not know, this I hope will be answered in the sequel.

Interesting.....Please explain how you came across that it was "a greeting message to the engineers about the human race and its culture". In the movie, I didn't recall us sending them any transmissions.

My question to the Prometheus oracle:
With all that budget and cg why was guy pierces old man makeup no more convincing than the old man mask in jackass?

SamboJimJune 08, 2012
Shaws sweet baby. So I clearly missed out on this great concept. Please enlighten me?

spacyfreakJune 08, 2012
Thank you Nick - but that conclusions i had also on my own.
So my brain seems not bad at all.
But your thought on the "alien-slime" david has between its fingers - yeah, could be a fat hint that there was an alien slaughtering the engineers...
Clever.
But as i also think - the story was arranged so that you get "addicted" with lots of questions and our brain wants some answers so we will buy tickets for the sequel...
But wouldnt we also buy the sequel tickets if this would have been the fat masterpiece we waited for#? even more...

BellaisanAlienJune 08, 2012
@Nick, I'm sure you didn't try to come across as arrogant and patronising. But maybe if you understood Prometheus so well you would be able to re-read your original post and understand how it comes across.
I don't think Prometheus is by any means a difficult movie to understand. I like it, but it comes across as half a movie. I would imagine this is ultimately the idea, and after Prometheus 2 and 3 and 4, etc are finished then we will all truely be satisfied. And like Drakequation said Lidolof said that there are intentional ambiguities in the film to ensure their are more questions. Sequel feeding is what I call it... Just like the claim that Janek knows for sure that it is a military complex for producing weapons…. Absolute tosh – check out the T3 interview or the link I posted on a separate thread “it doesn’t have to be a bioweapon”. These statements / ambiguities / questions are intentionally put in the film to ensure that the audience do not have all the answers. Thus leaving them hungry for more and wanting another movie which they will pay to go and see. Fox, Lidelof and Ridley are happy as we are lining their pockets.
We will have to wait to know what the answers are…….I’m sorry my friend but if you understood the movie so well, I wouldn’t need to point this out to you……….

SamboJimJune 08, 2012
@spacyfreak wow man that's some far out thinking!! Take that back! this film was a masterpiece that's only meant for deep thinkers like Nick and Shawsweetbaby. These questions can be answered its just we haven't seen the light yet! Only the chosen ones are allowed to view the sequel
abordoliJune 08, 2012
With all that budget and cg why was guy pierces old man makeup no more convincing than the old man mask in jackass?
Make-up aside, Weyland must had had Vickers REALLY late in life, say around 60, for him to look like that and for her to look like she did. I would have bought "Yes, grandfather!" better than "Yes, father!"

NickJune 08, 2012
I missed a few from Spaceyfreak sorry!
- where did the worms come from - have they been in the cave before prometheus landed? why they did not "activate" the goo to come out?
I think it is safe to assume they were bugs that came with the jockeys when they landed there.
Some think that that place was a trap for us when we arrived so it probably was set to activate from our presence itself in the room.
--
- did even other creatures were able to "activate" the goo to start his deadly work?
I think it was set to activate when a suitable host was nearby (like alien)
--
- how shaw was able to use the medipot in mrs. fickers room without ANYONE regognizing what is going on there? no key at the door? privacy?
Most of the crew was busy at that time, and Shaw assumed she had killed it so perhaps it was overlooked.
Things went to hell pretty quickly with Weyland appearing and the Jockey coming out of hypersleep.
--
- why weyland kept as secret that he is on the ship? what difference would it have made if the crew knew he is there with them?
He didn't want to leave hypersleep until he KNEW that it was worth doing, it was none of their business at the time for them to know.
--
- why david infected holloway? curiosity `?
Perhaps it was curiosity, I think he was under orders to do so to get the organism home.

Shaw's_sweet_babyJune 08, 2012
@abordoli - well, David actually says that the engineers do not respond to them while looking at the girl playing in the hologram along with other pictures and information.
So I took it to mean that David was trying to send them some information about the human race as a greeting. But obviously he gets no responce.

NickJune 08, 2012
@msepsis
I found the makeup for Weyland to be fine, I think you are just nitpicking a reason to hate it.
--
@OrangeAgent
I didnt really mind the flute at all.
--
@SamboJim
The urn David grabbed happened to be a earlier form of the alien we know.
In another review the squid creature was described as a larger inefficient form of the facehugger.
--
@BellaisanAlien
My apologies if I sounded rude at all.
Let me rephrase my theory.
I beleive that it is a weapons lab is because the Alien was a weapon, this is an established fact that Ridley himself has stated before so I simply connected the dots.
I could be wrong, but this is what I know from all the information given at the moment.
rubinisJune 08, 2012
⟨Ψ(q; t)|Ψ(q; t)⟩ =∫ Ψ(q; t) ∗Ψ(q; t)dq = infected man 1: : pb = −i~∇b = −i~@sex@r
= −i~ grad;Lb = woman × pb; Tb =pb22m squid= −~deep throat22m
∆b, ∆ = b ∇b2
Vb(br) = V humanoid (r)
Hb = Tb + Vb(br) Alien;
Things i need to know before i die: Why infected man makes sex with woman who gives birth to a squid who deep throats a humanoid and alien was born.
To Ridley Scot.

NickJune 08, 2012
@rubinis
Holloway didn't know he was infected, he passed the organism on to her.
Was it meant to? Perhaps it was, at the very ROOTS of Alien there is a strong sexual aspect to it so maybe it was meant to be done that way.
The squid was a larger inefficient form of the facehugger.
(as stated in a previous review)
So instead of the finished product being born we received an earlier form of the Alien that was still rough around the edges.
SundarJune 08, 2012
I have a question @ Nick, what brand of sunscreen does the engineer use Banana Boat Ultra Defense or Water Babies Pure & Simple ?
abordoliJune 08, 2012
Nick:
That is Shaw as a child probably, if not it could be a random child but I would suspect Shaw.
It can't be Shaw because David showed it to Shaw and Holloway and she had no clues as to who it was.
Shaw's_sweet_baby:
@abordoli - well, David actually says that the engineers do not respond to them while looking at the girl playing in the hologram along with other pictures and information. So I took it to mean that David was trying to send them some information about the human race as a greeting. But obviously he gets no responce.
Hmmmm......I'll buy that as a possibility. My only pause, though, is the "no response/not found" he was getting was from the "network" (the human's network), not the engineers'.
There is something HUGE about this violin playing girl because it is presented in the movie at least 3 times. I am 99.99% convinced that this recording of a girl playing a violin is an implanted memory of David. Do you notice that it is playing on Vicker's big screen at the end. David is transmitting it to her while beheaded.

NickJune 08, 2012
@Sundar
I get it, you are butthurt because you cannot analyze a movie.
If you want to argue your point then do it.
LHeureuxJune 08, 2012
Why did the Space Jokey tear up the head of the only person capable of interacting with him? Did he see it as a threat to it's race, since David had enough informations to pilot a damn ship?

NickJune 08, 2012
@LHeureux
The engineer was hostile to everyone in the area so it attacked him simply because he was the closest I guess.
