Every now and then I read someones post about how upset they will be if the alien dose not meet a specific standard (I feel the same in a way)
But for me personally I hope this new alien throws everything I know about them into the water.
Think about it, after Alien we have had 5 different movies with 6 different directors that have added and modified the original design.
Aliens: Added the queen, made the aliens a hive like creature
Alien 3: The facehugger impregnated 2 hosts, the alien skipped the chestburster cycle
Alien Ressurection: Don't get me started on that white thing.
AvP: Nothing new, but they took after Camerons design of alien
AvP Requiem: Predalien capable of placing multiple embryos

If you remember the bonus interviews with the Alien cast, it is revealed that ridleys take on the Alien is quite different.
Alien: Creature has a very short lifespan skin bruises as it ages, obsession with reproducing, capable of changing the molecular structure of tissue into alien dna (like an egg),
The famous deleted scene on alien where Ripley finds the nest with Dallas and Brett inside proves the last theory.

Now something I would possibly expect in Prometheus is a possible "mutation" caused by the hive material that begins to mutate a person into god knows what.
(since there is no queen in the original design there must be a default means of reproducing)
Lets go back to that deleted scene; other than the fact that Brett is turning into an egg, Dallas seems to be in incredible pain. Why is that?
Was he fatally injured? Maybe he suffered a mortal wound that cannot be seen under the material, but why would it harm him so badly if its intentions were to use him as a host?
My theory is that the hive material actually melts down and fuses with the victim causing them to be in incredible pain. I am positive some of the acidic qualities carry over when the alien is using saliva and god knows what else to construct it.
This idea also fits VERY well with the "biomechanical" idea of organic fused with machine. (which is shown here in a slightly similar fashon)

Any other ideas? I am just throwing my opinions at the wall here

MemberOvomorph11/7/2011Yes, as i stated elsewhere i think the deleted "cocooned" scene from Alien should be a great starting point ... is horrifyng and original and to be ,by far ,a superior and scaring idea than everything was made in the sequels .

MemberOvomorph11/7/2011I think thats a pretty solid take on the situation, and to be honest I hope that's what we're given in Prometheus. It'll be a logical choice.
I think with each film that was added to the franchise, the idea behind the Alien became less frightening and the mystery deteriorated. I still don't like what Aliens added to the franchise if I'm honest (still a great film to watch though).
Some sort of mutant creature(s) will work very nicely in Prometheus. In fact, though Alien Resurrection is a terrible, horrible film I quite liked the idea of the New Born. It was grotesque and fairly original. I think if Resurrection never existed and the New Born turned up in Prometheus fan's would've been quite pleased with it.

MemberXenomorph11/7/2011You know that is a good point. Now one thing that is also overlooked in Resurrection was that the Aliens didn't kill the scientists. They cocooned them and created some sort of bio interface with them. The one scientist that was teaching the aliens I thought was directly relating what the Queen was feeling and thinking. Now take this back to the Alien basics with the original Alien.

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011I have watched the bluray with it's deleted scenes many times. It never occurred to me to ask why Dallas was in pain. Being folded up and resin encrusted like a poseable doll would be enough combined with the fear that the xenomorph can return at any moment and do whatever it want's with you. Even in contemplation the idea that your dna and subsequently your very metabolism is being rewritten in order to modify you would surely be a painful process in and of itself, so for me the question is answered. Did Brett look like he was having a good time over there across from Dallas? Wait for the last eight minutes of the film, I'm sure Ridley will be addressing many of those questions.

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011Well to me the behaviour of Dallas is strictly tied to being absorbed but the Alien "matter" ... basically i think his body is melting and that must not be funny . His eyes are swollen . hes not able to see anymore and probably the legs are slowly devoured by the alien "matter"

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011I agree to all, after alien they made them cool, and not frightning.
and I watch Alien (dc) this morning, and it has been a really long time, but I notist that Ridley's alien fit's perfectly in Nick's quotation, But for some reason I don't think there might be no connection to the other movies, what if aliens not only mutate with there host's DNA, but also with that of there 'parents' host?
It might be a stupid idee.

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011A question....
Consider that the Xenomorph evolved from the impregnation of a human host by a facehugger. What might have evolved from the lengthy mutation of a human into what may have emerged from the Dallas and Brett eggs. The notion that a human would have been transformed into a mere facehugger seems inefficient considering the complexity of raw material the Xeno was given to work with.

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011But maybe the host was merely a pile of substances ... I think there are animal species that use the body of a host to feed the eggs ...the alien maybe have used the bodies to feed the "dna" that slowly consumed the two living bodies :p

MemberOvomorph11/8/2011The Alien was just doing what it normally does..gather hosts and then die....like an insect that lives for one day....so...if that is the case, the Alien would of died at some point....depending on how long the life cycle is for the Alien...so Ash, if he had gotten away with it..would have to freeze it to bring it back...

MemberOvomorph11/9/2011We know at least one Xenomorph came from the Space Jockey, what might it have been like? Was it responsible for all the eggs in the silo beneath the chair?

MemberOvomorph11/10/2011Maybe the Alien is cocooning victims also for food, like a spider, after all, every living thing needs to eat. I guess it snacked on Lambert ad Parker first, as there is no sign of them even in the deleted scenes, so I would expect it's saving Brett and Dallas for later.
I do agree with the victim-morphing-egg idea though!

MemberOvomorph11/10/2011I like the morph / absorption theory. From the deleted scene, I believe the human body is used as a simple food, raw material source for new eggs to be created, as seen from the shot of Brett. I never thought the Aliens had the kind of biology that needed food? I always saw it that the inner mouth / jaws were used as a close quarters weapon as i don't remember seeing any victims in the films being eaten by an Alien?
As to the looks and appearance of the Jockey Alien, that will be great to see. Would such a mix of DNA create a more intelligent creature? Similar in nature to the "White thing" in Resurrection?
Just as a point of interest, the first Aliens novel by Steve Perry features an appearance by a member of the Jockey race. It communicated via telepathy, mentally taking to Billy after an Alien attack. This Jockey was not particularly friendly in nature, Billy was quite scared by the being, in essence, mentally raping her, to transferring images, feelings and it's races future intentions into her mind. The Jockey was also considerably larger than a human, but then we know that for fact from Alien....sorry if you all know this but I thought I would just venture a wee bit of knowledge!

MemberOvomorph11/19/2011A little off target from the disscision title but interesting theories none the less. MemberOvomorph11/20/2011Great discussion here! I have to say I just watched Alien on vhs just because I wanted to. I have to say that comparing alien to alens is like comparing Ozzy to Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath was dark, elusive, gritty and spooky where Ozzy is just loud and crazy, just in your face metal! Anyhow just an observation I made. But after watch Alien and looking at the pictures for Peometheu I love knowing that the crew of Prometheus is a science team and the nostromo crew was a group of mineral prospectors. Cause the Nostromo is all greasy while promwtheus is all pristine like a very expensive piece of equipent. I think that it is really cool that the space suits in Prometheus look a little more high end while in Alien theis look kinda like hand me downs. I am willing to say that Robert Clotworthy is going to voice the AI of the Prometheus ship kind of like how nostromo has mother. If anybody on this blog still has alien in VHS do yourself a favor and watch it. It will be like listening to one of your favorite albums on vinyl you cant replicate the sound of the needle.
