MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:34 PMI walked out of Dragon Wars and almost walked out of this one too. I saw six other people get up and leave. Story and dialogue were very disappointing for the last 90 mins of the film. It was very boring and it lacked suspense. Been reading these forums for 3 months and just feel extremely let down.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:46 AM@Sukkal I am not wrong though. This is like trying to convince me that Legally Blonde was an in depth masterpiece of human creation. Even sound's silly saying it.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:37 PMyou should've walked out, and not bothered coming on hear to cry about it. If it's not your piece of cake that's your problem. I enjoyed it a lot, and can't wait for a sequel if there's one.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:45 PMPeople applauded at the end of my showing. I enjoyed the movie in general but I have to say some of the dialogue was cringe inducing. "I Choose to believe" used about 3 or 4 times during the movie. An expedition based on a hunch of a scientist (what was her specialization after all?), then a mad scientist experiment and a zombie/The Thing passage that serves no purpose to the story...high points were the special effects, the design of the engineers, the sets, the music (yes, I ended up liking it, specially the nice touch of the Chopin tune at the beginning and at the end of the movie), and of course Michael Fassbender

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:49 PMIt wasn't that at all. I really liked the movie. Furthermore it focuses on the space jockey which is what really interested me, not Aliens, which is a old dead topic that this movie shouldnt touch.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:11 AMLopan,
If it must be so for you to maintain your condescending, ego-centric world view of your superiority than I am "simple" because I choose to be so.
It can be a good movie without being a perfect movie based on your subjective criteria.
The film has its issues, granted, but your assertion that those who find it entertaining are therefore of inferior intelligence is, frankly, offensive.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:57 PMI "believe" (no pun intended) that the repeated reference to religious symbolism will play an important role with what's already happened and with what's to come next. Both Shaw's and "Hollow-way's" crosses, a crucified xeno sculpt, birth from a barren womb... are there more?

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:59 PM"expedition based on the hunch of a scientist" well said Arkadine. Even for Ridley, that was one hell of jump from the cave drawings to the movie titled spacecraft. Mabey well get the deleted scene in the director's cut. And If memory serves, Dr. Shaw's hypersleep chamber id'd her as an anthropologist.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:01 AMAnyone saying this was a good movie has to be a little simple. I am a passionate lover of all R.S movies but this was just dismal. In 33 years i have need seen a movie with so many issues on the big screen. Sure most will point them out but regardless it has been a huge let down.
In years to come this will be slated more so then Alien 3. Wait and you will see. I was not even upset as it was not an Alien movie. Here is just off the top of my head.
1:When entering the planets atmosphere how comes the Prometheus ship just so happens to arrive right outside the engineers ship? Just pure coincidence?
2: Why is it when old man Wayland is discovered not one crew member said anything about him being there?
3: Why did Shaw tell the security guy "No Weapons" when there is clearly Aliens present ? That is just silly.
4: What an earth did the first scene with the Engineer drinking and dying have to do with any part of the movie?
5: Why did the space jockey (Engineer) just get up and attempt flying back to earth? He could have got up at any time the millions of years he was there. Why now?
6: Shaw gives birth to a baby alien yet she is now fine to run around within 2 mins? None of the crew question or ask her if she is ok after having an Alien removed from herself.
7: Why does the captain always ask where people are or what they are doing when he has a huge hologram map on the deck along with cameras attached to every crew member?
8: How did they find the planet that was billions of miles from earth? All we see is "Movie intro at cave in Scotland" .... "Oh there is a picture of some people who i think are gods" ... "They want us to find them" (Cut scene) "Captain we are here at the planet."
9: When the two crew members were lost why did the captain not just watch the camera footage instead of everyone randomly just going onto the planet searching ? Again they are all tagged why not look on the giant hologram that tells them as it beeps the whole movie?
10: Overall a huge let down of a movie. There were so many distracting plot holes and pointless thing's happening it become silly watching it. I also witnessed people leaving the cinema which i have never seen.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:04 AM@db References aside, you cannot convince a room full of scientists of anything by telling them: I don't have anything to back me up . But I am right because I choose to believe

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:05 AMIt was really well done. It just created more questions then it provided answers to. Really, I think he needed another 60 minutes to help some needed back story and bridge some continuity gaps that were created in the story.
I hope to GOD that he makes another one that goes to where our blue human counterparts came from. I'd like to see her message as translated through the beheaded David.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:11 AM@Lopan - I think the engineer/space jockey drinking and dying at the waterfall at the very beginning was the creation of Earth. They have identical DNA to humans, and the DNA was being carried through the water and likely started human life.
Many of your other questions are valid, but one of yours is why didn't the space jockey just fly the ship and leave. If you didn't notice, he was in hypersleep, and I don't think you can just get up from hypersleep without the ship automatically doing it, or if someone else opens it (like they did in the movie).
I do not feel like this was a bad movie, but it could have been much better. When I watched Alien, it felt a lot more solid of a movie than Prometheus. Hopefully the sequel will be better.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:13 AMIt did not answer anything nor did it mean anything @Solver2. To me it seemed like it was made up as it went along. If any other movie at the cinema did as many random thing's as this it would be slated for poor directing. To me everything was just for the sake of it. Nobody questioned anything.
What will happen in the next Spiderman ? A horse just shoots beams out of it's eyes then you don't see it again and nobody asks why ? That is exactly the sort of crap happening here.
"Oh well its a movie that is supposed to happen"
Way too much of that for me to keep interested.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:14 AMLet me tell you an anecdote. People would buy almost anything. I recently stumbled upon one of those online camrips. The film had been subtitled in spanish over over a russian dubbed copy. The funny thing is it was no translation, all the text was made out. And there were comments: Very good movie. I will watch it again lol How dumb people can get???

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:19 AMSeriously, the movie "species" was better written and more entertaining then this hack job.

Lopan
MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:19 AMSorry you think that way @sukkal but i am just saying it how i see it. How can anyone watch Prometheus without having so much happen with a blah look at it ?
If i was to watch a Spiderman movie to have a flying horse appear for 20 seconds I would ask why? To much of that happened in this and people are blind or just see that as "Oh its sci fi thats cool". Thing's need to have reason or meaning in a film.
I honestly see this as R.S making an Alien Prequel then 6 months in thinking "No lets change it all". By which time it become lost in what it was trying to actually be.
When you cut it down in basics. Rich man is dying and wants to live so they look for an answer to keep him alive. That is just a poor underlying story that holds this together. Sorry

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:23 AM@Skinner im with you 100%. No denying that was actually a watchable movie. My mate said as we left the cinema. Even Pitch Black seemed worthy of an Oscar compared to that.
I agreed totally.

Arkadine
MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:23 AM@Lopan you may have a case with many of your points, but in the case of the Prometheus stumbling upon the alien installations upon arrival, it might be dismissed if you take on account that it is explained later on that there are many ships and therefore many silos for those ships on LV 223

Sorry Lopan, but that is an asinine remark. Opinions and a-holes, my friend.

Lopan,
I have no issue whatsoever with your hating the film and cutting it to shreds, but your calling people who find joy in it "simple" is a reflection on YOU and your sense of self, not on anyone else's intelligence.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:28 AMI think the more pertinent question is why you would decide to go see Dragon Wars in theaters in the first place lol

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:31 AMThere was zilch at the movies that week. Either some comedy romance or scorched flesh. Wrong choice obv.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:34 AMI thought it stunk too and my daughter e-mails me today saying she thought it was "awesome" so I know the positive opinions on this forum aren't from people who worked on the movie. How so many opinions differ on this one. It is worse than the elections lol

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:39 AMThis movie will get better and better and will be a classic timeless movie. Humans will attempt the things that are discussed in this movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:51 AMOk, this is the 100th thread I've seen like this. Venting time.
Ok, first, I've seen it twice. No one walked out and it got applause both times. Everyone has their own opinion, but there's a difference between something being 'bad' and 'not liking it'. It's actually interesting how often this line is blurred this forum.
Example. I don't like Titanic. It's a well-made film with well-rounded characters and a coherent narrative, but it's not my cup of tea. I'm not about to go and compare it to 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' in terms of quality. I'd rather watch 'Plan 9', but by no means is it a better film.
Second. It's good this film is getting so many strong opinions. It's not often you encounter a film as polarizing as this, it's been profoundly interesting to see everyone's theories and comments on it. But, with it's release, there have been rounds of trolling/flaming people for having these opposite opinions. Even I have to bite my tongue (erm, fingers?) at certain claims of quality, but people like what they like. It doesn't make them stupid, snobs, fanboys, or whatever else. No matter what, Prometheus is a movie. A piece of entertainment. So Lopan, don't you dare accuse someone of being 'simple' for liking a piece of entertainment.

Lopan
MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 1:04 AMI dare say what i like. If something is "Bad" you say? I have stated why and they are opened eyed floors in the movie. That is not hating for the sake of it. Trust me im more pissed off then anybody about this film haha. I have waited 20 odd years for this movie.
People will say as they wish at the end of the day. I would reply the same thing to someone telling me that Skyline was a confusing epic tale of brilliance. Id say "You must be a bit a simple" cos it clearly is not.
There are people that tell the truth and those that lie. I don't lie.
