Since ALIENS obviously followed ALIEN chronologically -- and Ash & Co. were intentionally sent to LV-426 to pick up the xenomorph -- why didn't terraformers know about the derelict space ship with all the eggs on it????

Ripley was floating in statis for 57 years with the cat between the end of Alien and the beginning of Aliens. The terraforming and colonization began in the time between.

We have better technology in Alien that we had in Prometheus. Better ships that can travel faster, or yeah maybe it really is that large of a distance. Space is known for big distances. ;)
