Fifield. Zombie Ants & Hermit Crabs

Greetings, In my opinion, Fifield was dead when his face landed in the Black Stuff. If that is true, then the Black Stuff has regenerative power, even up to reanimating recently dead creatures. Ant zombification begins when an Ophiocordyceps fungus shoots spores onto an insect. The parasitic fungus gradually takes over the ant's brain and directs the insect to a cool, moist location. The fungus then kills the ant, and fruiting bodies erupt from the ant's head and spread more spores. I think this is the inspiration for the Fifield Incedent. So, after he is reanimated by the Black Stuff. The human nervous system must have been hijacked with something like Hermit Crab Intelligence, which would explain why the crew wouldn't have seen Fifield's Body walking across the landscape, rather the Black Stuff had his body assume a Hermit Crab walking stance and he skittered across the landscape of LV223. Thoughts?

In my opinion, Fifield was dead when his face landed in the Black Stuff. So what you're saying is the acid from the hammerpede killed him and then he fell dead into the black goo and then stood up with the helmet melting around his face? That's some really fast acting reanimating goo, no?

Interesting take although I would point out that there is no "hermit crab" intelligence wired anywhere in the human central nervous system. By that I mean, that the primitive regions of the human brain are not wired to assume that pattern of behavior or movement and, if anything, he would have had rigid and jerky movements and lack of fine motor control due to damage to the fine movement areas provided by primary motor cortex of the frontal lobe.

There is a misstep in your memory; the scene went this way; he cut the Hammerpede, the acid from the cutting melted his face mask, then his body fell into the Black Stuff and remained there motionless, face down. I don't remember him standing up after that. In fact after the moment we see him face down (unconscious or dead) in the Black Stuff, we don't see him again until he is at the back door of the Prometheus. Back to my point; If the premise that he is dead is accepted; then there must be some other intelligence running his body. Apparently the Black Stuff can use the existing body in other ways. How else can we explain the crab pose? He became weaponized much like the Grubs indigenous to LV223.

Okay, I have an entirely different theory which I think is pretty much accepted widely now. Fifield was clearly mutating into a Xenomorph. There are several times in the Alien Saga when the Xeno takes the same exact "Crab" pose. Even A deleted scene from Alien showing it crab-walking. Black Goo makes aliens (Xeno's) - Bottom Line. Fifield = straight mutation into Xeno. Holloway= same Shaw (impregnated) = egg laying face hugger (female version ie: "mother" of aliens) Furthermore you can base it on Fifileds movement and sounds. (another clue is the fire used to kill him-this is classic Alien- Xenos always feared fire and it Was often used to kill them) So, Fifield was NOT a zombie, crab, or supernatural, he was just mutating into an alien.

Well they are not being changed into Xenos.... Here was some of the concepts on how Fifield would look, you can tell these clearly have Xeno influence and so does the Hammerpedes and so does Shaws Baby and Deacon. Because this substance in the Urns seems to mutate Organisms that dont change into Xenos but hybrid organisms that have Xeno DNA. I think the Urns contains broken down Xeno DNA obtained via same process that the Sacrificial Engineer had done to him, the substance he broke down into went into the Water and Mutated basic lifeforms and started Evolution of Complex Organisms on Earth that eventually Evolved to us. If the stuff simply changed everything to Xenos then how come the Earth is not full of just Engineers but instead many Organisms that do have similar DNA traces and which then also near matches the Engineers, because the Engineers DNA is part of all life on Earths Evolution. Thats why all Organisms that evolved from the Urns has Xeno DNA.

My interpretation of Fifields Fate... He got sprayed by Acid his Mask, he then attempted to removed his helmet but he slipped into the Black Goo on the Floor, this then with the Acid Burnt his mask into his face. He was alive while the mask melted to his face, he may have died after but then we can say that once the Xeno DNA from the Urns infects you it kills you and then re designs your DNA into a Hybrid anyway.

The stuff the Sacrificial Engineer drinks is not the same as the black goo. This stuff is whatever the green crystal (originally a bowl like in the first scene) holds. This dissolves, or breaks down rather than mutating/making weird xeno hybrids (as mentioned by Big Dave-i agree- not Xenos exactly, of course, but a Xeno-human mess). God i wish the crystal was left as the original bowl; it would have connected back so nicely to the beginning and made our lives just a little bit easier. More thoughts on this would be awesome...

Saving that bowl after a billion years...well... And the ship left, we see it departing in the distance... As for that scene, it really seems the DNA was being destroyed not altered/mutated...strands got lost...and local indigenous life was contaminated...I feel this scenary is better fitting to that whole scene instead of a weird way of seeding life, with a fully advanced spacefaring species needing to kill one of themselves to spread life...unless what we see is a tool used to that specific task...

Shaw's PLACENTA stopped her mutating like Fifield, into a glass-domed xeno (I prefer THIS Fifield and wish he was spliced back DNA-fashion into the Restoration Cut) that's what placentas do -- protect -- both mother from child and child from mother.
