Fifield. Zombie Ants & Hermit Crabs

In my opinion, Fifield was dead when his face landed in the Black Stuff. If that is true, then the Black Stuff has regenerative power, even up to reanimating recently dead creatures.
Ant zombification begins when an Ophiocordyceps fungus shoots spores onto an insect. The parasitic fungus gradually takes over the ant's brain and directs the insect to a cool, moist location. The fungus then kills the ant, and fruiting bodies erupt from the ant's head and spread more spores. I think this is the inspiration for the Fifield Incedent.
So, after he is reanimated by the Black Stuff. The human nervous system must have been hijacked with something like Hermit Crab Intelligence, which would explain why the crew wouldn't have seen Fifield's Body walking across the landscape, rather the Black Stuff had his body assume a Hermit Crab walking stance and he skittered across the landscape of LV223.
Thoughts?
