After digesting it and two showings, I think it is a great movie! I was asking myself and friends many questions about scenes in the movie...many of which are being asked in these forums...not something I would do if the movie sucked. In the process of questioning, I was thinking a sequel would be very welcome. It does have 2-3 scenes where the dialogue is awkward or feels out of place; but, it is not so awful that it ruined the movie for me. When the movie finished, it did feel as though I had "read only half a chapter of a multi-chapter book" and this did not change after seeing it a second time.
I really did not expect the direction of the movie. It turned out to be a very original outing considering the history and huge shadow that the Alien franchise and "Alien" in particular were casting on the movie. The "Alien DNA" was there; but, AS advertised it was a standalone movie...not a prequel.
I am strongly hoping 2 films have been made and that sequel comes out on 10.11.12! I really cannot believe they put the date at the end of the credits just as a advertisement for the DVD...no way. It must be for something bigger...the sequel...maybe not; but, I hope so!
I think Scott, Spaiths, and Lindelhof (all or one of them) have roughed out the entire story arc (maybe, hopefully are all ready filmed the second installment). I hope Lindelhof does not write the sequel, though. Yes, Prometheus with it's "Lost" style type of storytelling worked for me; but, I would like the story to gain some focus and clarity. I never watched "Lost"; but, from what I have heard I would not want the Prometheus movies to end like the "Lost" TV series...unresolved and open ended (maybe a tinge un-resolved would be OK) ;) ! Lindelhof, to his credit, admitted as much; saying that; he may not be man to continue on with Prometheus.
Initially, the score was the weakest link; but, again I ended up liking it. It worked really well with the strange feel of the movie. Some old Aliens music when Weyland spoke in his hologram, some classical, some hippy trippy spacey stuff when Shaw was shooting herself up with pain killers after her surgery. It worked!
Looking forward to a Sequel!
