prometheus 2001 similarities

I know by now that Alien/prometheus is being compared and disected to the nth degree. I also know that Ridley was a friend and admirer of 2001: a space odyssey, I am sure at prometheus's stripped bare skeleton there are similarities and nods to the 2001 film, e.g alien tech being there at our evolution and being there at our end when we dare to be too advanced and nosey, but I'm wondering if there was more. My gut instinct tells me there was, but I am neither too synched in or focused to spot them yet your thoughts please

The scenes before the crew awakens, with David puttering around the Prometheus with only the serenity of classical music in the background, evokes Kubrick/2001 for me quite deeply...

The saucer is Ridleys Monolith and represents, as did Kubrick's, the ultimate Creator...the Engineers are merely the stock from which we came and possibly not even they know fully what or who it is. I'm thinking in the future that Shaw will leapfrog past the Engineers in her quest..but that she and us will never know the saucer for more than the elusive glimpse it has already afforded us. And we will see the saucer again.

Many similarities! The Dawn of Man for one, a film that forces one to think, HAL (David). . .

Got a couple others -The voice of the computer that speaks to David early in the film sounds very much like HAL 9000 -The orange space suits shaw runs past after her c-section reminded me of the orange spacesuit from 2001
