Not sure, but the big gun has some holes at the end of the "barrel" that would seem to correspond to the ampule diameters. If we are being told the truth, earth was going to be attacked just to test out that technology. Cave paintings are a mystery though. What is the connection there?
Indigenous. They live in the temple/facility building (where the atmosphere and humidity is) and were randomly exposed to the black liquid.

What also gets me is when Milburn and Fifield chicken out when they see the decapitated space jockey, yet when they get "lost" (which I think is bull$hit), Milburn doesn't hesistate to play with the Hammerpede, an unknown, hostile looking organism. LOL!!
Doesn't make sense to me...

I thought Milburn was supposed to have been a biologist? So why did he run off scared (with the guy who previously didn't want to know him) when he first discovered a dead alien body? I would have thought a biologist would have jumped at the chance, especially having been in cryo sleep for two years to get there! But no he wanted to go back to the ship. Shortly after he wants to go and pet a LIVE HISSING alien like its a bunny rabbit!
The only sense I can make of it is badly written.
