A random person on the internet's theory on the black goo

Hey. I'm some random guy on the internet who believes that the black goo is easier to understand then people realize. And yet I do not think I found any one who came up with the same exact conclusion. Well we all know that the Naked engineer in the beginning of the movie drank the goo. His body designated and in it's new strands of DNA and cells began to take it's place and formed a new life form. (assumed: More then likely Human) That is exactly what the goo does... Destroys life to create new life... unless if it's already dead. Then we get super human crazy freakazoid space zombies. Naked engineer. Drinks goo. Denigrates. Humans. Worms. Gets covered in goo. Denigrates (Off camera). Snakes Fifield. Dies. His dead body falls face first in to goo. Zombies. Hallway has sex with Shaw. Infected sperm breaks down in her womb. Mutant sperm squid baby. So why didn't Hallway become a zombie? Easy. Hallway did not die before being infected. What we were seeing was him being ripped to shreds at a much slower rate then the naked engineer. The Naked engineer drank a entire cup. Hallway only had a small drop worth. We never get to see what new life was going to be created because he was burnt to ash before the goo did it's job. I honestly cant see how it can be anything other then that.

But that picture implies that hallway is a zombie but he was never going to be one. There for it's not the same exact conclusion.

Well, I took it to mean he was infected. Oh and you don't have to worry about warning for spoilers anymore here. :)

This is a funny (good) poster! Maybe the artist can do one for Fifield. The infected symbol should probably be a man image with bulging veins. The black face could have a mohawk representing the zombie-beserker-Fifield.

My problem with this is that there a thousands and thousands of cans of this stuff. Different sizes. Under those circumstances, the same drink in each can? I find that unlikely. We don't know what version of goo the Engineer drinks - whether it's neat, or a cocktail. Hollaway gets infected with pure goo, or something, from a single vial from a goo-can - but where the vials in that can were suspended in what looks like goo. Everything else gets crocked by a goo sludge made from the result of multiple, maybe hundreds, of weeping cans that may have been weeping goo, or the black stuff that the goo vials are suspended in, (if that's not also goo) - or a combination of both, (if it is also goo)... Overall, I think you may be mistaken if you think there is anything that can be said with certainty about the goo.

I agree with allinamberclad. I think there are at least two different kinds of goo - one that was ingested by the sacrificial engineer, and the other that was found by the Prometheus crew.

The promotheius engineers were exploring the negative goo results on a this distant lab planet and one turned on them. the only positive goo shown was creation in the beginning. Interesting that they gave these coordinates for earthinlings to visit. More intresting that they decided to kill off earth 200 years ago...I dont think they objected to the minor life forms, but the dominant man they had trouble with...

Good theory but did Fifield actually die? I thought he got his face burned by acid and then tried to stop the burning sensation by dunking his face in the nice cool(black) water(goo). I'll have to watch it again... And my latest theory on the effects that the goo has on the Sacrificing Engineer, Fifield and Holloway is that the goo's effect is identical...they just have different doses of the goo, therefore the effects vary in both strength and the time it takes for the goo to fully take its effect - 1] The Engineer drinks a whole lot of goo, therefore the effect it very strong and fast acting. 2] Fifeild gets a faceful of goo which probably gets into his blood(from his melting flesh), his eyes, and also his mouth, therefore the effect is quite strong and quite quick to take effect. 3] Holloway drinks a TINY amount, MIXED with water, therefore the effect isnt as strong and takes a much longer time to take effect. Similar to Vickers Vodka really!
