MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 5:26 PMIn the scene where the engineer ascends into his pilot's seat , the helmet is mounted . The eyes of the engineer don't fit the eyes of the helmet , the helmet seems thin and a little too big for his head , the eyes of the mask do not fit on the eyes of the engineer , it seem that there is a space between ( more than wearing sun glasses ). In the first scene , where they pull off the mask , if you mark the position of the mask's eyes , after the mask is removed , the eyes are way down at the cheek bone . In the pilot seat scene you can get a glimpse of the back of the helmet , the eyes don't seem to be extended inward. Thus how can the engineer see ? His field of view should be narrowed down and impractical for combat , exploring , running from aliens and such.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 5:35 PMthe reason the eyes are inward are maybe the glasses-like vision sockets have decomposed with time, as it was a dead engineers head in which the sockets were emptied, almost like a skull if you will.
the one in the navigation chair was obv preserved properly during being kept intact under the plinth of the star-map room.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 5:47 PMThis is like Robotech The helmet/visor creates a virtual spacial viewing environment with all instrumentation and landscape viewable... PatLabor is a great example of the possible technology.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 5:47 PMwhen it comes to bio-tech, it's probably something we've never heard of, like a telepathic link with the supplemental organisms sensory input translated and relayed to the user without any physical interface.

AdminPraetorianJun-12-2012 6:14 PMTo me it looks just like a jet fighter helmet complete with visor.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 9:13 PMnedelcupaul is correct! The helmet doesn't fit. Although I think there are reasons for that.
If we examine the scan of the engineer helmet from the conceptual artwork of Prometheus, we will notice that the engineer's head occupies about one-half of the helmet. The rest is visual space, snout, and conduits. His eyes don't align with the eyes sockets of the helmet.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:10 AMThe fighter pilot helmet does not have "eyes" , the visor is just a piece of some glass on to which information is projected on (correct me if i'm wrong). The original pilot by Giger might be inspired from the pilot helmet .

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:19 AMGahlaktus , I didn't think of the scan ! This illustrates my point . Observe the empty space , it's like something else is meant to be in the helmet . It's like a kid wearing an adult's hat .

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:23 AMMaybe the empty space is needed to fit a facehugger in it.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:26 AMYes...how did the engineer in Alien get infected ? A facehugger would fit on the spot in there .
