Peter Weyland's Guards...

Right after Shaw removes the trilobite via c-section, she discovers David talking to Peter Weyland in a room aboard the ship. There are two men (they look identical) standing guard outside the rooms doors. They never interact with Shaw but just stand there at guard, while an armed guard tries to stop her from entering. Now if the are just "simply" twins, from a storytellers point of view, it would make things rather confusing not to mention pointless. So what I'm wondering is are they clones and if so that opens a lot of possibilities for Weyland and Co. Maybe the "real" Weyland is back on earth, in a preserved state, waiting for his clone to return with a cure. Anyone else notice the "twin guards"?

Obviously they were synthetics whose sole purpose was to protect Peter Weyland. That would explain the absence of any additional cryo chambers and the need for additional food, water or other life sustaining necessities. The presence of weaponry would indicate that they were of a completely different type of synthetic (al la R2D2 and C3PO) designed and used in a more tactical environment. Wow,what a perfect soldier.... one who never sleeps, eats, gets tired, disobeys orders, or questions the mission. The perfect soldier. I wouldn't think they were clones. The logistics simply wouldn't add up on such a long mission across deep space.

I didn't notice the "twin guards", but it's also a possibilty that they're the same model of robot.

I did notice the twin guards. And having only seen the movie once, there is a point in the movie where the crew from Prometheus are entering one of the rooms in the 'temple' and I believe there are statues of two Engineers 'standing guard' over the room. I'm starting to wonder as well if the 'temple' room where the jars of black goo were stored in a pattern, and not as they were in the depot area, wasn't more of a burial chamber as in the tombs of the Egyptian pyramids. Someone tell me if I am remember this correctly.

To mchesney: You make some good point but the Prometheus was a large ship and if it's Captain was unaware of Weyland's stowed away in a secret Hypersleep Camber isn't there the possibility of a room filled with secret "classified" sleep cambers containing his personal security team? Plus if they [i]are[/i] clones, it furthers the movies underlining theme of what happens when the creation becoming the creator (humans creating A.I. & maybe clones).

I thought being a synthetic programmed to be a soldier/guard they could at least hit an 8ft tall engineer in the head except in his arm, and only get 1 shot off. Upgrade needed!

I don't know what you are talking about. There are no guards outside the door as she is the one who opens it, and inside there are only Weyland, David, a nurse guy and a security guard. I'm sure of this 100%.

To Blood: Are you sure? I seem to recall the door was open slightly, revealing David's upper body talking to an unknown (at this point in the film) seated person. She does open the doors exposing Weyland and David conspiring next to his sleep chamber with two other standing by but flanking the door before and after see opens said door are two motionless guards that are identical.

Look when Vickers goes to see 'the king'. His royal guard is flanking the door. If they are clones, its another echo of what the engineers do, and how Weyland wishes to be like them.
