David and the Goo

I was thinking about whether the goo affected David at all. Much of the discussion thus far has touched upon what effect it had on the others, but it has not focused on whether it actually changed David in any significant way. It seems as though common knowledge has been that because he's an android the goo would have no affect on him, but can it be argued that it did have an affect on him? Without the audience really being aware of it, could he have become mentally more human as a result of coming into contact with the goo? I hesitate to say physically because, if he had physically become organic, then we would have seen it the moment he had his head torn off. Was there then perhaps some other sort of tangible transformation that took place in him because of the goo?

Interesting prospect, because why would David make any attempt to help Shaw at the end if he was devoid of emotion. He had heretofore been working the agenda of his 'father' Weyland, but his creator/father was now dead, So he was 'free' a verbal que given near the end of the movie.

Just look at David's face when Holloway snaps at him and says "Right, because you're not a real boy" after David declines his offer of Champagne. David looks crestfallen, he truly is upset.

Plus, his whole first encounter in the Orrery, with him showing genuine joy, occurs after he comes in contact with the bio-goo. So you might have something there...

When Shaw puts his head in the bag, he looks up at her like a child being safely tucked away by his mommy, a smile on his face. Lost his dad, but here's a new light to follow....but goo related? I think he's on a development path of his own.

I was just going to post a topic like this one, but i dont think it was the goo, i think the green slime in the ship compromised David. When he came in contact with the green slime you can see somekind of tech inside it, like a biological computer, some of its program and history must have been downloaded to him and change him. I think this because one thing is to try to understand the simbols and another to know first hand the combination to the locks, and his desire to experiment on halloway, which i dont think its part of weyland programming.

Also since we are talking about David, i believe the reason the engineer killed him like that, its because he saw him as what he is, a creation from their creation, an aberration....."so you think you can create life eh?" hahahaha i think this because of how he tap his head like if it was a dog

I think David and the goo might be not related at all, maybe because he was hurt during the conversation with Holloway, and then try for revenge. As after weyland was killed, then he is free of his own....... An android with emotions.........love it...^^

@Tecua : David being compromised by bio-tech inside the green slime is a great and original idea! After all, an android could be affected by "tech" inside biological or biomechanical matter and materiel. That makes a lot of sense.

engineers created us and we have same DNA so hacking biology of people is no brainer for engineers. but they don't know hardware/software design of android robot, so i would think it is not so easy to hack computers. but engineers are so far from our knowledge it can be no problem for them to hack both bio and mechanics/robotics.

David shows emotion early on. On the the ship during the briefing, when Weyland's hologram says, "he is the closest thing I have to a son" he smiles with pride. When Weyland says, "he doesn't not have a soul" he drops the smile. Some of his emotes are just out here though. He can't seem to relate to Shaw at all when he connects Dr. Holloway's death to her Father's - even though I think he was trying to be sympathetic. He gives the craziest smile when he turns away form Dr. Shaw as she tells him she didn't want her father dead. His emotional responses do progress throughout the movie though - the goo could have affected him.
