Is life good? Most movies we see on the silver screen say they are a force of destruction and chaos. but we have to face the fact that "aliens" are living beings and so cant be all bad. Least I think so. One prevalent view out there is that any close encounter of the third kind wouldn't be with living being at all but instead with robots. Why? Only robots as far as we know can make the journey across the stars over eons of time and lights years of distance. equalizer

Bad is a relative term. Might not be considered bad for them might be for us. Like a prawn derailing a train. Bad to us, not to prawns. Sorry for the District 9 reference. I was just watching it.

Who is "THEY" ? The Engineers would seem to bad, if my assumptions are correct, but the Space Jockeys can't really be called bad, as they are under the control of the engineers, forced to do slavish tasks like sacrificing themselves for the unseen engineers.

Engineering I see what you are saying. But if their agenda is to wipe out life as we know it on earth including my own I have to classify them as "bad"-as bad as can be actually. Hadley you are suggesting their are two kinds of aliens: The space jockeys who obey the powerfull beings known as the engineers whom we have not yet seen (Maybe in the next film). I didn't infer that additional class of aliens from the movie but I like concept. I like how the monster aliens from the old movies are really just advanced biological weapons. I think the engineers are the ones that turn out to be the "good" aliens in the end. My guess. Shinobi I don't know who is the darkskinned humanoid you are reffering to.

Really bugs me that some think the Engineers and Space Jockeys are different. Look, RS and crew call these guys the ENGINEERS. That's what they're called. Engineers and the Space Jockey are the same thing regardless of if there is in fact another race that created them. The term "Space Jockey" was the name the crew called the Engineer in the first film. Everyone knows this. All the Space Jockey is is an Engineer in the pilots chair of a Juggernaut. The term "Space Jockey" is irrelevant now. Forget it. They are Engineers.

Engineering I see what you're saying about not feeling guilty or bad about killing another race simply because they’re in the way of bigger plans. But since I'm a human (I think I am), I can only regard their nefarious plans as plenty bad, all too bad actually. Perhaps we’re on the brink of creating a doomsday device that can destroy worlds not just cities hence they are here to cleans this side of the universe for the better good. I’d say in response though “who gave them the right?” As for the Engineers vs. Space Jockeys argument brought up first by Hadley; I actually like the idea of a three cast system of aliens. First there are the savage monsters from the previous movies which we learn are nothing more than the ultimate biological weapon- nice touch. Second up are the Space Jockeys who travel the galaxy’s neighborhood to deliver weapons of mass destruction on fledgling worlds. Finally, way up, are the Engineers who are the thought process behind it all. Still if that were the case, it would mean that all three are pretty terrible company. I tend to think that the Engineers will turn out to bee the “good” ones after all. We’ll see in the next film.
