MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:00 PMWhat do you think it will take for Fox to greenlight a sequel? How much money? Good reviews?
Does anybody pay attention to how much films make and if they were successful in launching a franchise? Anyone know of a few films that proposed a franchise but was unable to do it because it failed at the box office?
Also, how much longer do you think Sir Rid will be able to direct? He looks great at the moment and really shows no sign of slowing but he's doing The Counselor now, he's got Blade Runner on the horizon as well as a few other projects. Will he even be able to do it?
Finally, if RS could only do one, Blade Runner or Prometheus, which would you want?

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:20 PMdoubt you'll be seeing any Green Lantern sequels ;)
the Millenium Trilogy (Dragon Tattoo, etc...) probably just barely got greenlit, although I doubt you'll see Fincher finish them up. With Hollywood, 99% of the time it's all about the bucks
At this point, I'd probably rather he finish Prometheus with better writers and leave BR alone.

MemberDeaconJun-13-2012 5:23 PMA lot will do with the box office and Blue-Ray and DVD sales.
You see it could get rave reviews from us fans of either Alien or Ridley Scott but if no one else bothered to go see it, then Fox would not see the point.
I think Fox may take on board any critisim and if Fox feel that a 2nd movie that gives answers to Alien would make more money than a story that steers completely away from Alien then as much as Ridley may want to avoid Alien i think the buck stops with Fox.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:23 PMThat's...a lot of questions haha.
In hollywood, if a movie makes its Budget, Production and Marketing costs back and shows a substantial profit, then a sequel is greenlit. Considering the budget for this film was only $130 (which is typical of a summer movie) and it's already made $157 worldwide and that's only after one week in theaters domestically and two weeks internationally, that's nothing to sneeze at. Effectively it's made gone "black" in profit so a sequel should be on the horizon.
Scott may have a lot on his plate, but he's stated that PROMETHEUS was designed as a two-parter, so I would say, barring any viral campaign misleads (10.11.12), we might have a sequel in 3-4 years or so.
Blade Runner II may be on the horizon, but if the studio orders PROMETHEUS up first Blade Runner will get pushed back. That's just business and Scott understands this fact. So yes, if a sequel is ordered he will be back for it.
Honestly? I would want the sequel to PROMETHEUS over Blade Runner. I like Blade Runner as a film, but I prefer the Philip K. Dick story better "Do Sheep Dream of Electric Sleep?", and since there's not really much information afterwards it would be the Sci-Fi equivalent of tacking on a 4 movie to LoTR with the same characters when no such work exists.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 5:28 PMUnbreakable was supposed to be a trilogy. I liked that movie too. Wish it made it to a sequel.
$35m for an actor? Not likely..
I recently saw a major and successful actors's salary for a soon to be shot film. It was large, but it wasn't $30-$35m.
I did hear in casual conversations that Robert Downey Jr. got a percentage of sales for The Avengers rather than a salary. He made out very well from what I heard.
The matrix did ok, and Reloaded did much better, and Revolutions was between the two. So, there is evidence that a sequel will generate more. Comparison of SW Ep. 1 and 2? There is a website that does these comparisons.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 8:39 PMMaybe if Fox granted Scott the original 250 million he asked for we might see something!

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 7:47 AMI am totally down for a sequel to Prometheus! I just don't know where they can go with Blade Runner.

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 1:11 PMSeeing as how they linked Prometheus to the first Alien, maybe they'll do the same with the Prometheus sequel somehow linking it to Blade Runner!! Seems a little far-fetched!!!

It will take another 150~200 million (worldwide) by the time the October Blu-Rays go out and sell for a few weeks, but I think it might happen.
I'm hopeful. Let's put it that way.
