********THIS THREAD IS A WORK IN PROGRESS******** These are truncated interpretations of forum members "plot holes" or unaswered questions along with answers and explainations from various members... 1)Is sacrificing one of their kind really the best way they have to create life on earth in the beginning of the film? 2)Why would Weyland spend so much money to fund a mission with no hard evidence that Shaw and Holloway's theories are correct? He's a multi-quadrillionaire or mega-rich for that matter. Money is no object and immortality is his only desire. 3)Why is Shaw portrayed as a Christian believer yet she forms a hypothesis that contradicts Christian beliefs? In the film someone says that her beliefs are incorrect because the Engineers created humans. She answers with "Yes, but who made them?" She has her own beliefs that are obviously based in Christianity but every Christian does not believe or worship in the same way. 4)Why was Weyland playing like he was dead and hiding in cryo besides plot reasons? He was in cryo to preserve the short time he had to live. As far as why he hid it from the crew perhaps he's an eccentric multi-quadrillionaire who likes to mess with people's heads. Or, if the comany and share holders believe he's dead he could be doing it for some business reasons. 5)Why is Vickers being Weyland's daughter kept a secret? Vickers being Weyland's daughter is kept secret from the audience. Never in the film does it suggest that this fact is kept from the crew. She has a different last name but that doesn't mean that the last name was made up. Maybe a married name or she kept her mother's last name. 6)Why does Vickers even go on the mission when it's against her best intrest in regards to taking over Weyland Industries? It's not in her best intrest if other "sharks" are on earth plotting to take over the company while she's on the mission. For one Weyland is not dead so the company is still his. Also, Vickers obviously has daddy issues. Her father prefers a replicant to her. Her father is dying. She expresses that in her opinion the mission is a joke and will not be successful therefore she believes her father is going to die on the mission. She looks at the mission as her last chance to redeem herself or win her father's love away from David. 7)Why does Weyland take the voyage instead of sending a probe and funding further medical research? What medical research is going to uncover immortality? 8)Why does Weyland think he can appreciate or understand immortality or the Engineers reasoning and capabilities when he himself states that his creatioin, David, cannot appreciate the immortality he has been given because he has no soul? Again, he's an eccentric, multi-quadrillionaire. He created another lifeform. He also obviously thinks he is on equal footing with the gods or Engineers. He is incredibly self rightious. And, unlike David, he has a soul. 9)Why does the crew rush into the temple instead of waiting for the pups to finish mapping? They never go into any area of the pyramid that has not been mapped. 10)Why would the crew remove their helmets when they admit that, though breathable, it could still be dangerous? Once they find out it's breathable they never say anything about a chance of it still being dangerous. In fact, someone states that the air is, in fact, cleaner than earth's air. 11)Why does David shine a flashlight at a hologram? He's in a very dark place and has a flashlight in his hand. When most people are in the dark and hear or see something moving they usually will shine said flashlight in that direction. 12)How does Fifield and Milburn get lost when Fifield is in charge of the pups? The pup readout was loading to the display on the ship, Fifield had a piece of the equipment that showed them the readout however when he and Millburn decided to leave rather near their point of entry he had to leave the equipment with the crew who were staying so they could continue to find their way. Fifield and Millburn being men both think they can find their own way and don't bother contacting Janek for directions. Then the storm hits knocking out contact. 13)Why are geologist Fifield and biologist Millburn not interested in the uber-important descoveries that the team make in the pyramid? It's possible that they are too frightened to care about their careers at that point. Or better yet they are interested but are smart enough to hang back until the pyramid is found to be safe and without threat. 14)Why is Millburn stupid enough to try to pet the hammerpeede? Perhaps his inquisitive, biologist nature that was talked about being absent in question #36 has finally got the better of him. Also, Fifield had just showed him that he had marajuana in his resperator. This could explain why Fifield is super paranoid as well as why Millburn wants to pet the hammerpeede. Fifield is paranoid because he's stoned and Millburn is trying to show off in order to impress Fifield so he'll share the marajuana. 15)How is human dna and engineer dna a match yet there are differences between them? 16)Why doesn't the crew ask David to translate Engineer writing when they find out there's a contagion loose? When they find out Holloway's infected is the first sign of a contagion. At this point they are in the pyramid and find Millburn's body and see that Fifield is missing. They also see the hammerpeede scuttle off which scares them as well. The sh*t has hit the fan at this point. They don't think about or have time to ask David to translate anything as they are trying to hurry and get to the Prometheus to help Holloway. Besides, David is off on his own mission at the orrey in the Juggernaut. 17)Why does Janek go to have sex with Vickers? Seriously??? All joking aside, Janek is the captain of the ship. He's not responsible for anything scientific which is what the mapping of the pyramid is. Also, at this point he has told Fifield and Millburn to hunker down and not bugger each other and all is quiet. Finally, at this point, there has been no threat. Just what he believes to be glitches with the pups. 18)Why does nobody get angry at Janek for dereliction of duty? See above answer. 19)Why does David infect Holloway for no reason? Before David infects Holloway he has a conversation with Weyland who is in cryo. When David leaves he comes upon Vickers lurking in the corridors. She askes David what Weyland said. "He said to try harder" he tells her. Weyland wants to find out what the "black goo" is capable of without being the guinea pig. Could it make him immortal? Could it make him morph into an alien? Could it give him the runs? He tells David to infect someone. David picks the person he likes the least of the crew. 20)Why does infected Holloway act ok and return to the temple putting his girlfriend and crew in danger? Holloway has no idea he's infected. He dosn't know what David did. All that happened before they left for the pyramid was what he saw in his eye in the mirror. He could have been thinking he was seeing things due to cryo or space travel or whatever. He didn't display any pain until they were in the ampule room and at that point he asked Shaw if what was going on was bad. 21)How does David know what 3 months pregnant looks like in terms of an alien? David tells Shaw she's 3 months pregnant BEFORE he tells her it's not human. He's telling her she's 3 months pregnant in terms of the size of a human fetus at 3 months. He knows they haven't been there for 3 months and that the alien fetus couldn't be that old as they hadn't been there 3 months. 22)Why does David put Shaw to sleep when she asks him to take the alien fetus out? First, putting Shaw to sleep and in cryo is the most rational actions he could take as the med-pod only works on males and they don't have the personel to do the procedure. 23)Why does Shaw not mention David's behavior to anyone after the c-section? Because his behavior was totally rational. 24)Why is nobody, especially David, curious about what happened to Shaw and her baby after the c-section? David trumped Shaw's pregnancy with the surviving Engineer. After he was found, anything else was secondary - which includes Shaw's baby. And David was the only one who SAW the fetus. I doubt he said much, of if he did, he was deliberately vague. Weyland's only concern was meeting his "maker", and since Shaw was obviously alive and coherent, why would Weyland even care? He was on borrowed time, only days to live - if that. He's not going to give a crap about what Shaw was up to. 25)Why does Janek assume that LV-233 is an "experimental weapons depot" located far away from the Engineer's home world? Janek explains this himself to Shaw in the film. 26)If LV-233 is in fact an "experimental weapons depot" why would the Engineers give humans a map to it? 27)Why is the ships control system started by a flute and controlled with buttons instead of being contolled by a flute OR buttons exclusively? Do cars start up when you push the gas pedal or stereo buttons? No. They start with keys. The flute is the key the Engineers chose. 28)Why does the awakened Engineer attack instead of finding out what's going on? He has just been awakened early from a long sleep by inferior beings who he and his kind created and now want to destroy. These inferior beings have somehow found them and the rest of his beings on the ship are dead. He sees them somewhat of a threat. He has no idea what they know or what they're capable of. Not physically, he knows he can handle them physically. He's worried about what they know about the Juggernauts on the planet and their plan to destroy mankind. 29)Why do Janek's co-pilots offer up their lives so readily? First ands foremost the fact that the lifeboat can only sustain life for 2 years means they are going to die before anyone can rescue them anyway. Also, Janek seems to be a boss that they definitely look up to and they obviously respect him to the utmost. Plus, how often do you get a chance to save the entire planet instead of running like a coward? 30)Why doesn't Vickers run sideways to avoid crash? 31)Why does the Juggernaut fall straight down during the crash instead of at an angle? 32)How does a rock hold the crashing Juggernaut up, saving Shaw's life? If you look you can see that the part of the Juggernaut that lands where Shaw is is sloped inward which means the part of the ship that hit the rock was also lower to the ground when the ship hits. If the ship is sitting flat on flat ground that part of the ship would not be touching the ground. 33)Why does the Engineer go after Shaw with bare hands when there are more Juggernauts? See question #28. 34)How does Shaw's baby grow so big in a confined area with no food source? The trilobite fetus grew at an alarming rate while inside with what would seem to be little nutrition from Shaw as from the time she had intercourse and was impregnated to the time of the c-section she had not eaten anything. The trilobite just continues this trend after the c-section. Or perhaps the trilobite ate some of the crew members we didn't see much of. 35)Why does Shaw head for the Engineer's home when she knows they want to destroy humans? To get answers. She states this at the end of the film. She doesn't care the cost. In her mind she will get answers from the Engineers or die and meet her maker and get answers that way. 36)How did Shaw manage to acomplish all the feats of strength and daring after a very painful c-section? Shaw gives herself painkilling shots during the c-section as well as after. The combination of future surgical tools and techniques, the ability of future drugs to kill pain as well as good ol' adrenaline could have easily helped her along. 37)How did the Trilobite survive the sterilization process? The Trilobite does have some human DNA and perhaps the Pauling Med-pod's sterilization process is not calibrated for human/alien hybrid parasite trilobite. 38)Why is the Prometheus no equipped with weapons to blow the Juggernaut up instead of having to fly into it? Scientific expedition. Not an attack ship.

@oberon...Hate to sound like a dick but, uhhhh, it was for Weyland, not Vickers. Kind of obvious.

Well, first of all, this medium is terrible for discussion. White text with a black background is terrible on the eyes. Please change it. Also, I've been anticipating this movie and reading up on various rumors before I saw it. So I went in to its viewing with the notion that the engineers already wanted to destroy humanity, and that they were time travelers. So its apparently something we do to them in the future that pisses them off. Just like that star trek movie where the Borg go back in time to assimilate humanity, instead of conquering them in their own time. That was the first scene. They went back in time and infected life on the planet with things like "ebola" and whatnot. There was already an evolutionary event taking place on earth, and they just wanted to disrupt it, introducing a kind of a biological evil. Also, from the first Alien movie, Ash talks about this organism being "perfect". And in this movie its mentioned that the earth was a giant petri dish. I also got that impression from the movie. That these aliens were constructing a top predator/parasite sort of thing. As a science experiment. And on a weird level, there was a sort of a dichotomy between beliefs. I asked myself the question of whether or not these creatures were in fact arguing about us being THEIR origin. They seemed "monk-ey" to me. Religious. Like what we represented to them was a deep contradiction to their own existence, being so similar to us. And that humanity represented to them a deep theological/philosophical failure of some kind. That warranted our infection.

Question number 14, the one about why Milliburn was stupid enogh to pet the alien gets a clear answer in one of the deleted scenes. In that deleted scene, when they first enter the chamber Milliburn finds a smaller, less dangerous worm which he cuddles with and brings in a vessel as a specimen. When you see that deleted scene, it does not seem that strange that he also would cuddle with a bigger alien worm.

WIlliam77, first scene is an Engineer sacrificing himself to make life. Explained in commentary..and kind of obvious with the assembling of DNA molecules in the movie. Also, engineers don't time travel.

26)If LV-233 is in fact an "experimental weapons depot" why would the Engineers give humans a map to it? My theory on this: The "map" may have actually been drawn by humans observing the Giants using the Surrey just like David did.

Regarding Fifield, the geologist not being able to find his way out of the complex. There is simply no good reason as all he had to do is call Janek and ask him to direct him like he did later in the movie when he found a ping due west of them. Lets face it, all the way through the movie all of the scientists acted totally unprofessional and each one you can go through the film step by step and point out where each on failed over and over. But as others have pointed out and i have too, you wouldn't have much of a story if the scientists acted with due dillegence like they are supposed to. Consider Melborne the biologist trying to make friends and spouting all that baby talk to an unknown reptilian species when about a third of all snakes discovered on earth are known to kill or disable their prey by biting them with fangs and injecting venom into them, either neurotoxic or hemotoxic or maybe both in this case! On the earth there are species that are venomous that we do not have antivenoms for so if you get bit you are dead. I found this out one time when I visited Taiwan. They told us to stay on the paths because of the pink snakes that were virulently toxic and there was no known anitvenom for it! Now here we are talking about a completely unkown life form that Melborne refers to it as a reptile without having even studied it. For all he knew it could be a xenomorphic stage in the growth cycle of some truely horrible monster like bioweapon. We the viewer know this as we have all seen all the alien franchise movies but its like watching a horror movie when you yell at the screen (hopefully in your head so as not to disturb your fellow viewers!!) "No! Don't look into the xenomorphic egg or check behind the door! Run!!" and then we cringe when they blindly look anyway.

This is officially most pathetic thread i ever reed. You just trying to give pathetic and quite irrational far fetched unbelievable excuses to niglegence and stupidity of Lindelof writing and niglegence of Scott's direction. Where did i see that before?? Aaaaaaaah, sure, LOST forums, same crap happened there, after Lost pathetic finale, because Lindelof is master of meaningless plot twists that leads nowhere and gets forgotten after every episode. List of questions if quite the same, and its generic template looks like "HOW A did B and C did din't do anything about A, and WHY no one freaking care about D that happened after A did B? And how even D and B could exist in same space at the same time if they freaking contradicts each other and any possible logic?". And some "believers" was trying to give pathetic answers like these above, but Rationalists, knwe that the only real answer was - SCRIPT IS LINDELOFED, there is no answer, its just poor writing, Lindelof gave no care, directors gave no care, Lindelof forgot what he wrot a page ago and seems like he never re-reeds and cant remember well what he wrote before. Oh yeah, there was 4 generic answers of every LOST questions: This is unknown effect of unknown electro-magnetic energy. This is unknown effect of JackobJackob's brotherjackob's mom. This is what THE ISLAND wanted. This is what Lindelof doesnt care about. So, you can easily apply them to any of prometheus questions, result whould be the same as you have now. 2? 3? 4? 5? 7? 8? 9? 10? 12? 13? 14? 16? 18? 19? 20? 21? 22? 23? 24? 25? 27? 28? 29? 32? 34? 36? 37? 38? - R U SERIOUS??? Thanks engineers, at least you didnt gave yet another pathetic excuse to 15))) I would like to see answer in same key about "how humans and jockeys have 100% matching DNA" whenever they have difference in morphology, that could be funny)) Most of given answers seems like they was given by people that dont know science, dont know how people really act, and have some problem with logic and facts, and have quite uncontrolable imagination, that doesnt have any clues in movie itself. You see, thae problem is - we cant imagine anything, anything we imagine cant be truth to movie plot, because there is no clues and sometime no logic in this. Otherwise we can imagine that space-clowns-with-tentacles from LV 3125236 just playing video game, where they control characters of movie)) Our imagination should be limited by information given by logic, natural and scientific facts and simple logic (Occam's Razor principle aka lex parsimoniae - most simple rational solution is most rational). 2) Weyland in this movie simply stupid character. Rational man, who cares about living few more hours, would not waste last of his hours risking finding something that could not exist, and have clear evedince. In reallity, man like Weyland would actually stay on earth, trying to keep his pathetic life as safe as possible, and would send his minions to find evidences that this theory is real and then bring him everything they could. The way Weyland act in this movie is irrational and not natural- "hey i want to live forever and have a little time - lets risk my own life in a stupid mission, which could shorten my life with chances like 99%. Oh yeah, 2 guys just told me they found 2 starts drawn by some ancient humans, i am so stupid so i would be 100% sure that this 5 points on walls actually leads to exact planet, that have something that could make my life longer" Seriosly? All they had - just 5 freaking dots on walls! Do you really think that someone in this world so stupid to consider this is clear evidence that this is map? that it leads to some planet? that these 5 dots means that gods lives on this planet? Whole begining of movie just a stupid, unbelievable and irrational plot device. And sending people in a middle of nowhere just because of 5 dots on walls is such a stupid decision that in reallity have like 0,00000000000000001% chance only to confirm that this was actually a map and that they found right planet (also 5 dots doesnt tells exactly which one of their 5 dots is that planet, also stars could be very far away from each other and only looks close from earth, in reallity quest to find some planet between 5 starts could be quite long, like looking for a niddle in a haystack. Even lesser chances that if they found right planet it still can have some life, like 0,00000000000000000000000000000000001 of it, much less chances that this life could be friendly or simply not dangerous, like 0,000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 and even much less chances that ship would brign them there at once without any injury, like 0,00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% And you really believe that dying man who cares too much to live longer, would risk his life with such a little chance? You really believe that 5 freaking dots on walls gives so much of information about where to go? How to go? What to expect? And that this is planet of creators who left "and invitation"? Both Weyland and Shaw simply PLAIN STUPID, as Shaw said to rational questiong of Fif "this is what i choose to believe". I choose to believe that Lindelof just stupid hack writer, and i have much more evedences about that than Shaw and Weyland had about these 5 dots. 3) Well i partially covered this question, and the only real answer - SHAW IS PLAIN STUPID, and she is not stupid because she was written like that with purpose, she is stupid, because writer is stupid, he thinks that such a contradiction could exist in mind of scientist... Lindelof knows nothing about science or scientist, otherwise he would know that most of them atheists, and even some believers would stop to belive once they will find evidence, and they at least doesnt believe in christian fairy tales, and only believe in some shapeless creator, that created universe, but not humanity personally. People of science are rationalists, and rationalism breeds atheism. Lindelof not just knows nothing about science, he doesnt eve do any research before writing something. Just look at this video with many best scientists of these days - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=D1-x1zGb6dM - and listen what they think about religion. Also note the age of most scientists - most of best scientist are far beyond 40 years old, because that the age when man have enought of expirience and knowledge to be a really good scientist. And look at Prometheus "science team", they looks almost like teens on vocations, stupid noobs. And Shaw is one them - simple irrational, unrealistic na poorly written scientist character. Thats why she choose to belive any bullshit that contradicts everything she just saw. Also, what kind of scientist she is? Archeologist? Historic? Biologist? Antropoligist? Genetic? This isnt even clearly stated and she acted here and there like she is multy scientist that knows freaking everything and nothing at the same time. If she is no biologist, why the hack she was messing with Jockey DNA and stated that its matching Human DNA? Arent thats a work that should be done by Biologist? Why the hell they needed biologist and other scientist then, if Shaw is one man R&D scientific army that can do their work? Just to appear on screen and die by hand of pathetic monsters like in some cheap slasher? Seems like that, damn half of characters dont even have names stated in movie (not in titles), and they was simply a furniture. What this means? Right - poor writing, whole science in this movie simply fucked up, and non of scientists looks and acts like any real scientist, same applies to Shaw. She is fake scientist, thats why contradiction exist. If he she was written properly, this contradiction would not exist. 4) I think this is also covered by my reply to 2), but ill give an extra details - this is no just because this character is stupid an poorly written, this is also as stupid and poor PLOOOOOOT TWIIIIIIIIIIIST, Lindelof of this shit, i ate a lot of shit like this in LOST, and 5 freaking years i was believer and hoped that this shit means something and have some explaination... but ending proved me that Lindelof was just feeding us this meaningless stupid crap, he loves plot twists that have no meaning, he just love to surprise people and give no fuck about stupid consequences of such surpises. However this time that fact that Weyland is alive was 100% predictable, and even surprise was crewed bí FAT clues. But ok, lets play that your version is possible, ok, i could accept that keeping himself in cryochamber could be to make his life Longer, but this doesnt answer to question why this needs to be kept in secret. He could be kept alive in cryo and everyone could know about this. There is no reason to keep that in secret. Rest of things about shareholders and crap - have no clues in movies, its plain imagination, that could lead us to space-clowns-with-tentacles... if you imagine things like this, that he could keep his presence in secret because he was hiding from space-clowns-with-tentacles)) There is no explained or even tiped version of why Weyland was hiding, so this means there is no reason given to this in plot. Which means this yet another example of poor writing, where character have no given motivation to do something he does. 5) Same shit - yet another meaningless plot twist. I suppose Lindelof expect "Luke, im your Father" "Wow effect", but this cliche doesnt work after Star Wars, at least not when it presented this poorly written primitive way. Poor writing, what else i can say? 7) This was covered by me above, in fact dying man which cares about his life would send someone there, wait in cryo on earth for results, even if they would take decades. Poor writing, poor motivation, poor Lindelof. Also your answer quite stupid - we dont know about medicine of future, but known facts from genetics of these days proves that immortality could be given to man with help of gene engineering, programmed virus-like biomachines, that will recover cells and exactly DNA polymerase (that, as we know know is responsible for aging of cells), adding extra reparation mechanics, that could possible even reverse again. So why the fuck people needs aliens in 2083 if we already quite close to this these days? Well, i cant tell that this could happen tomorrow, but at least we already understand many of things of why and how species including humans aging, and we have theories how to revert or stop this process, the only problem is development of micro agent that will "ugrade" every cell in body. And im talking about reallity now, lets not forget that movie is sci-fi about future, so if only Lindelof had a little of imagination and knowledge about science and exactly about biology and genetics, i believe he could imagine a better motivation for Weyland, and they would not even need to have thi cheap Mask on Guy's face ... some applies to however answered that question, - genetics actually going to uncover immortality and there are a lot of researches going these days and they have some success. Dont belive me? Read this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12067597 and more scientific sites, and dig more info on this with help of mighty google... but if its all hard for you to understand (just like to lindelof), at least watch what this respected scientists Michio Kaku says simplified way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsHuGQieyjY Genetics: The Key to Immortality. So yet again - motivation of Wey is stupid cliche of poorly written script. it would be much more believable if Weyland would come there no to became immortal but to recover advanced technology of ancient alien race to ... BUILD A BETTER WORLDS with their tech. Dont you think it would be quit more connected to alien and logic if Weyland mission of Prometheus would help to find something what will help to terramorph planets easily and build a better words just like slogan says? But Lindelof not that smart, and perhaps never watched any Alien movie that many times as most of us did. 8) Soul? O'rly? Who said that soul exist? Movie never stated anything like this! Actually movie have some themes that tipped that anithing that thinks is actually alive (thats the only thing i liked about this crappy movie, perhaps remains of original Spatiz srcipt that have facehuggers and real aliens isntead of crap goo and crappy monsters and that have real scientist isntead of bunch of idiots), so there is no difference between Humans or Androids, and they both could think and actually alive. As Rene Decart once said or wrote 'Cogito ergo sum" - i think, therefore i am (and this was actually one of main themes and sources of inspiration behind Fencher's Blade Runner). So whole statement about David's soul is just stupid. And yet again doest actually answer the question. Real answer - Lindelof's poor writing, and ability of Damon to write things like 1=-1 , he have broken logic, so its okey for him to write that left=right, logical contradition is common thing in any of his scripts. LOST and Cowboys vs Aliens good proves of this. 9) Oh... yet again? Covered above, but do you really belive in that pathetic excuse, or just like lindelof, all you know about science is what you saw in some stupid sci-fi movies like Prometheus? In fact, real scientist would spend a lot of time researching, probing and analyzing anything, before makign any movement towards it. Rest of things i already explained above - Lindelof dont know a crap about science. Thats why his team of science team is just a team of suicidal idiots. Even NOT SCIENTISTS from original Alien movie acted more realistic and rational and professional than these stupid scientists of prometheus... because Dan O'bennon and Shusset was good writers who knew some things about real life and science, Lindelof is just a hack who dont know so many things about real world and its logic. And actually they mapped entire piramid, but whole journey was just random and stupid. They acted like teens on vocation in old hunted mansion - typical shasher behavior and set of cliches, thats why they rushed into temple. Poor writing! 10) Again same as above - no one fucking scientist would ever remove his helmet in unknown conditions. These fucks was just slasher-kind of idiots. How the fuck they found its breathable? Place could be containmenated by dangerouse bacterias and viruses, even if it have enough of oxygen and a littel of other things, hey could still get infection, any real scientist would understand that and would never take off helmet. Whole scene was stupid - one idiot took of his helmet, and rest of crew did it, just because he said "its cleaner than on earth" ---- jesus-jockey-christ !!!!!!!!!! In reality even if one stupid fucker in science team would do things like this, rest of crew, would let him down, put his helmet back on, and would put him to Quarantine imediatelly, would take a lot of probes in search for viruses and toxins in his body. But in fact no stupid fucker like this would ever make it to serious science team, even little hole discovered on suit, would lead to panic and strong Quarantine. Just remember Alien 1, even there was a Quarantine. Ripley was no allowed to get anyone on board in case of infection. And here we go in Prometheus entire team took of helmets, and no one give a crap and allows them to get on board after this and even somehow allows to bring obviosly infected head and cold chilling bottle of black goo. Shoot me please, i hate Lindelof's stupid writing and i dont want to live i a world where people tries to defend his poor writing! 12) Same again. Actually whole "we need to run" scene was plain stupid. Okey even if guy who created map not even have this map (which is stupid anyway), why, when everybody run away, nobody contacted Fif and Mil while everyone was still inside temple? Also, if every member of team there was connected to each other via cross-com, FIf and Mil should hear others when they run of and someone should and could lead their way anyway. But we just have terminal case of stupid poor writing, where author just forced other characters to forgot about 2 of crew member for no apparent reason, just to "slash" them out with stupid death. Damn, your excuses to this was one of the most irrational in whole thread. 13 and 14) Saaaaaaaaaaaaame! They are so careless about rocks and bio, because they are stupid, because they was written by stupid writer who dont know how scientists acts and how smart people with logic actually acts. Also Mil and Fif shows quite a pathetic contradiction, Fif says "all he cares about are rocks" and in same time despite statements he doesnt care about them at all, Mil says a lot that he want to be first to discover alien life form, but when he founds 1st body instead he doesnt even cares to get DNA probs, find out any reason why jockey is dead, he doesnt even care about simple worms before black goo got wet, soon he gets away from bunch of dead bodies, and gets back into black goo chamber where despite dangerouse look of vagina-face-cobra-worm he finally turns on his interest into biology, and yet again logic is broken and stupid. We have 3 contradictions in a row, and yet he is stupid enough to pet ugly worm. Should i repeat again how real biologist would act? Ok, lets even forget about biologist, lets just think about simple logic. If you afraid if dead alien body, which can not hurt you obviously, then when you will see some alive alien, even which looks like worm, you will shit you pants even more, because alive creature is much more dangerous than dead body, thats how logic works, if you have it. If you not just have logic, but also a biologist, you would stay away of such kind of creature, because it obviosly looks dangerous, like a earthian snake, if you are real biologist with some knowledge you could that its dangerous by its look, and you would warn your teammates to stay away because its could be dangerous. You dont even need to be Biologist to tell that this shit looks dangerous most os you, guys, who gave this pathetic excuse are not biologist, but you would not deny that when this shit appeared on screen you understood that its dangerous. If you could understand that, any real biologist would undetstand that too and would not never pet any cobra looking worm, actually biologist would be even more scare because he understands better possible danger. Lindelof dont know a crap about bilogy. 14) Please dont even try to give excuse this crap, like i said Lindelof dont know science and biology, and before you started to give excuses to this hole, i will tell you something you probably dont know. Its not just impposibl for humants and jockeys to have same matching DNA, in fact its even impossible for humans to have 100% matching DNA, except for twins and clones. Yes kids, thats right - no man in a world have 100% matching DNA, except for twins, every huma have differen DNA, yest most of DNA could match as we spicies of same kind, but most doesnt make entirely, if we had same DNA we would look exactly the same like twins or clones, we would not even have gender or races, because gender and races also means difference in genes. So there is no freaking way jockeys and humanity could have same DNA, even despite similarity. Every race have some major difference in genes, ever gender have difference in genes, so women different to men, every asian or negroid to european in their genes, this difference in genes give us different morphology outside an even inside, while inside morphology is not very different, outside its much more variable. So no, they cant match in reality. Someone, please gift Lindelof some book like "Biology for Dummies". 16) This is called INCONSITENCY, this is yet another plot hole. In good script if someone can do something, he should do it every time, until something will happen that will logically preven him to make this. Obviosly nothing prevented David to translate anything before, but yet again this thing was poorly written, this feature of David was only created to tell something to jockey to lose head next, Lindelof do not even able to think that if David could do it in the end, he should do in begining and any time. Also, entire knowledge of Jockey's language was FAR FETCHED, yet again, how doest 5 dots on wall, tells that old human languages are the same that Jockeys used? Also langues are dinamyc, they changing quite fast, there is no way for David to find out from 5 dots on wall information that jockeys actually spoke human language, and there is no way for david to actually learn true ancient form of real language. So he should not speak their language at al. But hey, without this Lindelof could not put yet another cheap PLOT TWIST! Here ill cover 28) as well Also, guys, did you ask yourself, why JOCKEY WAS SO STUPID, TO NO RECOGNISE HUMANS IN FRONT IF HIM BEFORE DAVID TOLD HIM SOME CRAP? Seriosly? Super advanced race that created us and was going to wipe us out, and this super-intelligent RETARD cant understand that his targets right in front of him and took david's head right after awakening, before he told me something? Poooooooooooor writing! And yeah, why in the world, after 2000 years in cryostasis, after some incident that killed all of your mates, in 5 minutes after you woke up you just going to finish you old expired mission? Why are you not bothered about what happened to your comrades? Why dont you go back to your home planet to deliever report about incident that happened here? Why do you not afraid to die like your comprades? Why are you actually not dead? his actions completely irrational! Whole Jockey awakening was stupid and far fatched LINDELOFED WRITING! 18 and 29) Guys, jockeys, how could you give excuse even to obvious gufs like this? Seriosly, this is so clear case of poor writing, so its a shame to give it excuse - 2 co-pilots could surive with V, they didnt, just to remove to unnecessary characters from plot the cheap way. Also they way the acted - fucked up, and unbelievable. You are goin to die in a few second, and you have a stupid poker face, not a single mark of fear. They should have acted like V, they should run away in fear, their death was unncessary, even Captain stated that, but not they just wasted their life for nothing, they completely forgot to act according to situation. In this case we have not just poor writing, but poor directing and poor acting as well. Damn it, how could they cut this scene like this? Real people dont act like this in similar situations! Stanislavsky would not believe it for a second! 20) Yet again - far fetched, and your answer have mistake. Holloway knew he infected once he saw some worm in his eye and since he started to feel bad back there already. Real scientist would go to med section and tell everything to med crew, would not fuck his beloved one, because this obviosly could probably infect someone hi love, and would not put rest of crew in danger. He acted like some AIDS HIV infected man, who knows about infection but wants to infect more people. Thats what he did, but dispite that his motivation contradicts his actions, so he acts like arrogant fuck, who tries to infect his girl, but in same he doesnt want it. Again lindelofed broken logic. Rest of thing about "he could have thinking" - far fetche imagination of facts that have no proves in movie. Pathetic excuse(( 21) David could not know this, and that anwer was completely invalid, because both Lindelof and author or excuse doesnt know biology. Actually she doesnt look like 3 month pregnant, and surely David was aware that she was no pregnant before that day, so in any cases he should not tell anything in terms of month. Yet again poor writing, this phrase was there only to far fetch reaction of Shaw. 19, 22, 23, 24) Okey, maybe David's action to infect halloway ad put Shaw in cryo was rational. But where the fuck his rationality gone soon after? I mean - ok, lets infect Hall because Wey said to do some secret R&D, ok once our R&D made some results, lets put Shaw into Cryo to preserve new kind of species for further R&D. But its fucking NOT OK and NOT RATIONAL, when 5 minutes later, David gives no fuckin care about Shaw's pregnancy and scars, completely forgets about that, not asking WHY SHE IS NOT IN CRYO, not FORCING HER BACK TO CRYO, not asking WHAT SHE DID TO FETUS and 2 GUYS THAT CAME FOR HER, not giving a DAMN CARE THAT ALIEN OCTOPUSSY was left in med-section AND COULD BE DANGEROUS TO EVERYONE INCLUDING WEYLAND! This could not be secondary, because this is dangerous to David's PRIME DIRECTIVE "PROTECT AND SERVER PEOPLE OF DETROIT... i mean WEYLAND". If there was a little bit of real logic in this character (and its Linlelofed writer), he should ask something, and he should do something to prevent danger to Weyland that this fetus pocess. David's actions completely irrational. And its not the only problem, Shaw herself acts irrationally! She should scream, and mumble crap about baby-squid ain med-section, but she doesnt say a fucking word about whole crap that just happened to her, and once she hear that one of creators is alive, she even forget about her cries "Daddy, i wanna go home, we was so wrong!"... also, she should atack David, blaming him for not helping to get this crap out of her... jesus, this was so fucked up, so irrational and stupid! Bu hey, there was also 2 guys Shaw put in sleep once they came after her in biohazard suits, and this sleep was quite painful to their heads. Arent at least one of them was in room with Weyland and David? Why the fuck he didnt said something like "this crazy biatch attacked me, David said we need to put her in cryo because she infected - lets get her" or something like this, instead every fucked in that room acted like nothing happened, like previous scenes never exist!!!!!! FUCK THIS SHIT! This is most stupid irrational and niglegent Sci-fi plot i ever saw. Stupid lindelof dont even know that any action he puts in script, should lead to consequences, this idiot puts meaningless actions that leads nowhere, because he just forgets about them, once he turns the page of script. And you guys, seriosly giving this hack and his fucked up script an excuse, despite obvious stupidity, irrationality and completely meaningless bullshit that happens in front of you? And tellin people that something of this was rational? Whats wrong with you guys? Are you blind or Lindelofed or something else? Damn, as more im writing about whole stupidity of this movie, as more rage im starting to feel... not because of stupid movie, but people some people acting stupid when trying to give excuses to obvious stupidity of this movie. This is same crap that happened after LOST finaly, you have no idea how idiots who was trying to give LOST excuses was driving me mad! But ok, ill continue! 27) Orly? Flute? R U KIDDING ME? This is was so stupid design and decisions (not sure if it came from script)! A flute! You are super advanced race thats fine with bioengineering, and isntead of usign most reliable keys - your own DNA, you using some fucking flute as key? Ok, lets pretend it was only stupid design, not a plot hole. But how doest Jockey in Elephant helmet could play it?))) Oh you can tell me that jockeys only got their helmet once they was in a pilot chair... hm, okey, but could you tell me, why every of dead jockeys was in helmed then?))) You see? This is a series of little plot holes connected to each other. Oh let me predict next pathetic excuse - ther probably all died becasue they was in elephant helmet and was not able to play flute and fly away)))) Allright, but then they did a flute in a first place if this crap can-not be used once you wear helmet??)))))))) Data - you got a not just a plot hole, you got a plot hole loop, one stutpidity of script leads to another, and another and last one leads to 1st one)) 32) Jesus, another pathetic excuse! Did you ever hear about DEFORMATION of metal, plastic and organics? This rock should make a deformed pit i a place of ship it toched, and should obviosly fit into this pit, whule rest of ship mass should touch the ground and squish Shaw like a roach. Rock was quite think so it should act like a niddle - and get inside, it should be much bigger and wider to hold entire ship. If you wild tell me that this rock was VERY STRONG, then again you will only confirm my version, stronger materials penetrates weaker materials, and Ship was obviosly a weaker one, but if you wll choose onother version, where ship have stronger materials than rock was, in this case rock should be deformed and squiched by mass of ship. In both cases there would not be space between ground and ship and Shaw is dead. So no matter what you choose to belive, but a little bit of knowledge of physics proves that your faith is wrong and Shaw should be dead... but ITS ANOTHER PATHETIC PLOT TWIS LINDELOF LOVES SO MUCH, IT SHOULD LEAD YOU TO BELIEVE FOR A SECOND THAT SHAW IS DEAD, and then BOOOM, she is alive! Lindelofed Plot Twist Magic! Oh by the way, somebody give lindelof and his advocates a book "Physics for dummies" (im suggesting this as man who earlier studied engineering and physics in university) 33) See my reply to 28 34) Again lack of Biology knowledge and logic, both applies to Lindlofed and Lindelofed advocates. What kind of freaking food could be at med-lab? Even if it ate all pills and liquids that was there, that would not be enough to grow such a big mass. Mass cant came out of nowhere, to grow some mass you should eat mass, even more than you will grow (because part of it would be wasted as unsuitable for you - thats how shit happens, kids), and there was nothing to eat, i repeat - nothing! This mass came from nowhere, and film should no clues that confirms your imagination about food, so yet again we have terminal case of Lindelofed writing. Ill put 36 and 37 to this answer - learn biology please. Even with pain killers you cant walk and jump when you belly muscles was cut, because they cant function well right after, and they need to function with group of other muscles to perform a lot of actions, inluding jumping an runing. Also her actions would simply lead to bleeding to the death in reality. And this shit. Fly also have "some of human DNA". did you know that human DNA have 80-90% match to Fly DNA and about 50% of match to Banana DNA?))) So any statements about DNA callibration are wrong, most of creatures similar on micro level, only several different genes makes us different on macro level. Trillobit have no more "human DNA" than Fly or real earth squid, i belive match was about 80-90% so DNA callibration would not consider it as human in any case, and morphology tells there is nothing human about it. Also, where the hack this crap about DNA callibration came from? I dont remember anything like this in movie, again imagination of fans that have nothing to do with movie or reality, this is unacceptable this is irrational, this is the way to space-clowns-with-tentacles ))) 38) This is not scientific expedition, this is vocation of overgrown teenagers in hunted mansion XD Generic slasher. And by the way, if it was reali SCI expidition, it would be covered by militarists or mercs with big guns, especially if there is a richiest man of world on board that cares too much about his life. You are powerfull man, you want to live, you are rich, and you fly away to another planet with team on geeks and have no one with big guns to cover your ass? Are you fucking stupid Weyland??? Or its just a Lindelof's writing? 35) Orly? Wrong answer again! This woman suffered traumatic experience that ruined her life and faith (if Prometheus could be written by rational writer who knows like people should behave according to situation... like me for example - this would happen that way), after that she should not be bothered by questions like that, she should not care at all, she should just run away home to forget nightmare or to die there. Why? Well this was abandoned planned and it was nightmare, if Shaw would have a bit of logic if her poorly wirtten head, she would understand that 1) Same or even worse shit should happen on another planet 2) she should understand that shit would probably happen faster than she would ask her questions 3) She should understand that this journey could lead to sending more Ships to long forgotten earth, and she have no weapons to combat. Here motivation is sucked out of finger, far fetched, just to make a start point for a planned sequel, which no rational person want to see, because everyone had enough of bullshit from Prometheus, even if Prometheus 2 would have rational writer - 1st movie so fucked up, so new movie would have to stay on irrational stupid ground of original, which will make ratianal things irrational. The only way to ratianalize Prometheus in sequel is to retcon the shit out like it never happened and make a Reboot where team or real scientist would go directly to a proper planet of Jockeys, and there should be Jockeys of ALIEN - true weird creatures, not albino humans on steroids, real facehugers, no fucking vagina-cobras, no fucking squids, real Aliens, no fucking proto-Alien deacons, no fucking black goo, no fuckin Ivan and other crappy designers of prometheus, ONLY GIGER or GRIC, no prometheus as well! And it should be called Alien 5. And should Happen after Alien 1 or 2 and explain why Weyland-Utani was screwed and sold to Walmart while ripley was dead between Alien 3 and 4)) Or it could screw every sequel as non canon (because every sequel since Aliens screwed and disrespected Alien 1 canons many times) and continue only Alien 1, and yeah please NO RIDDLEY SCOTT, this director is expired, became too old and careless and should stop shooting movies the way he shoot Promefails. Thats would be that movie everyone was waiting for like 30 years since Alien 1. Btw i have 2 alternate scripts about Jockeys - mainstream one that takes AvP as canon, and explains that they got eggs from jockeys, after ancient wars and connects everything that was released before Prometheus, including games but exclusing comicses together - it reminds Aliens the most, lot of action at the alien home world; and i have non mainstream one, which says fuck off to AvP as non canon bullshit as well as Alien 4 and 3, also it brings back old good Elen Ripley, and quite different to 1st one, atmoshere is the mix of Alien 1 and David Lynch movies such as EraserHead, and its all about raping and dismemberment and sexually disturbing weird totally Gigger Alien homeworld full of alien vaginas and penises shaped weird mechanisms and gene engineering and its includes scenes of terramorphing and growing Jockeys right in a Pilot chair. Both was written long before Prometheus got its name. Both cleans entire canon-not-canon mess the most pleasant and rational way, that Lindelof could shoot himself ))) I can show this hack, how good script about Jockeys should look like, the only problem - while hacks like Lindelof have no problems to pitch their crappy script to FOX, people who can actually writer proper rational script about Jockeys that doesnt contradics canons and could show something really original, people like me, have quite a little chance to pitch anything to FOX... Seriosly, when i saw what Lindelof wrote, i was so dissapointed, and understood that young and yet unknown writers and true fans of Alien such as me could do much better job than some famous hacks such as Lindelof. And yeah before someone would try to say "learn english first" i should note that English is not my native language, my native is Russian, and good writer is not tha one who knows right spelling, good author is that one who have logic, knowledge and imagination to tell good, rational, interesting and unique story that could satisfy most of people, and unfortunatelly Lindelof is not a good writer and Alien franchise doesnt need famous hacks, it needs som true fan of series with logic and knowledge to clean up the mess, that different writers brough to franchise. Well let me get back to main topic)) Im sure guys, that some us - fans could write better, even those excuses to irratinality of Lindelof shows that some of you, not like Lindelof, actually able to give some good answers... however its stupid to give answers to stupidity of Lindelof, because even it you put rationality in your answers, it would be based on irrational crap that Lindelof wrote, and his irrational crap would make your rational anwers irrational anyway. Its like building house in air - it will fall anyway, because its have no ground. So my suggestion to everyone - instead of making excuses to stupid Lindelof, write some Alternative version of Prometheus or Alien sequel as you wanted it to be, where no lindelofed mistakes would exist from begining and you would be free to build a better worlds)) Maybe someday someone from FOX would read it and would tell "Screw Lindelof and famouse hack, lets take this guy as writer for next Alien movie" ))) Just dont waste your time excusing obviosly irrational and screwed plot. Btw, did i say that Prometheus is not canon and even less canon than AvP because there is a major plot hole between Prometheus and Alien - age of Jockeys and Alien eggs, different design and morphology of Jockeys and their ships, origin of Alien tied to humans etc? Jockeys was bigger in Alien, grow of chair, was totally non humans in suits, but a elephants looking creature as is, without any helmet, chair was different, walls an chambers was different, more organic and assimetric (in prometheus shit looks plastic and cubic), and that Jockey in alien was many millions old, and alien eggs already existed, so this means that 1) Prometheus jockeys not jockeys from Alien 2) Proto Alien from Prometheus is not our Alien 3) Prometheus happens not in Alien universe, but in new alternative universe which loosely based on Aliens and to put it simple - Prometheus is not prequel and no sequel, but a poor remake of Alien mixed with AvP... which cant be rationally connected to Alien. Now i wonder, could anybody give pathetic excuse to different design, scale, origin and biology both of Jockeys and Aliens from Alien 1 an Prometheus?)) How come most people here never notticed that jockeys of prometheus totally different and there is a major ultimate plot hole between movies that does not allow to connect them into one franchise? Even if sequel of Promefails would come out it would not allow to connect Alien and Prometheus - even if they would farfetch that black goo mutated humans in helmets intro real elephant, this would still do not match chronology of Alien, as elephant looking jockey was on LV 426 millions of years ago, and from prometheus we know that 2 000 years ago that was still human-looking. So there is no way this could ever be considered as canon prequel to Alien. Its only an ugly remake.

Dude did you really just sit here and write a novel about everything that bugged you about this film? Don't we have a thread called thoughts on prometheus for that? Also, not to be rude but this isn't IMDB, all of us are aware of the problems Prometheus has. There are other things we find compelling about it, and I would like a better sequel.

@v00d00m4n: Seriously, man. If you're going to complain about very poor writing, you should at the very least try to look up what 'niglegence' means in a dictionary. I'm sure your school has a dictionary somewhere.

Great thread Engineering, reading through it has given me alot of insight and food for thought. I'd like to add my spin on a few of these questions if that's alright. I noticed that alot of posts are about this one: Why leave a map to a bio-weapon facility? This question seems to assume that Shaw's theory was correct when she and Holloway addressed the crew for the first time. Most, if not all, of her and Holloway's theories on the Engineers have been disproven. It's a fact that the paintings do picture a system as well as Engineers, that's it. The assumption is the Engineers are pointing to the stars to invite us to come. It may simply be the Engineers pictured were showing humans at that time where we originated from. It seems humans were still in good standing with the Engineers and were actually interacting with us at that point. Also, there are many stars the Engineer pictured is pointing to, not specifically LV-223. Shaw and Holloway just picked LV-223 because they assumed that one was the most hospitable to life, according to them. As evidenced in the movie, the Engineer is walking around LV-223 with no problems. We just assume they need oxygen, like us. The holograms pictured space jockeys in flight suits ready to leave, which would explain why they were wearing helmets, not because they could not breathe on LV-223. Why were Fifield and Milburn so dumb? Dumb enough to get lost and pet a frickin alien SNAKE!! Initially they were terrified after seeing the dead Engineer and panicked which would explain why they gost lost, you can do stupid things when you are scared. However, after presumably wandering around for a long time, no longer perceiving any immediate danger, they let down their guard. Fifield starts blazing up and Milburn sees a snake like creature and wants to pet it!! In comparison to the enormous dead Engineers the snake seems miniscule, and no real threat is percieved. You know how that turns out. Why would Vickers go on a dangerous mission and risk her inheiritance?! For all intents and purposes, Vickers is just accompanying her father on a stupid expedition and would assume she could just turn around head right back home once the mission proves to be an epic fail. It could be she was expecting to see Weyland die from this trip and wanted to verify firsthand his death. What was the first question Vickers asked David when she woke up from hyper-sleep? It was" Are there any casualties?" It's safe to assume she really doesn't give a rats ass about the crew, so by asking that she's really asking "did the old man survive?" and had David said, "yes, Weyland has not survived the trip" I'm sure she would've not wasted any more time and decided to return to Earth that very moment. Why did the co-pilots give up their lives so readily? This one seems pretty easy to me. Just going by the few lines of dialogue they have between themselves you could tell they shared a sense of comradery. Chance mentions their bet is still on and Ravel says to pay him on the other side. This seems to imply either both, or at least Ravel believe in the afterlife, they are not afraid to die, and their sacrifice is not in vein. Why didn't the Engineer just hop into another ship and fly away? It may be that while there were other ships, they might not have been loaded up with the same cargo and prepared for the flight to Earth. Also, the temples were spaced pretty far from one another and the revenge theory just seems to be the most plausible. Think about it, if some jackass crashes into your car while your're in it, you definitely want stop and get in that persons face. Reading alot of the posts that blame lazy writing and lazy directing make me cringe and I have to ask maybe we as the movie-goer have become lazy? I don't want to sound insulting to anyone, thats not my intent. I just don't see why people thinks it's such a failure on the movies part if it forces you to ask some questions instead of just spoon feeding them to you. Why even go to a movie if you expect so much realism? I love this movie, but I have to admit I have a problem with some parts of it, but I don't let the minute details bog down the incredible experience I have had with watching this movie and pondering on the questions it brings up. Here's something that doesn't get asked to often: Are there even any more Engineers alive??! If so , then why would they just leave that one Engineer just sleeping there on LV-223? Surely they'd be monitoring this facility from thier home planet, wouldn't they?! Could one of the surviving Engineers have made it back to Paradise while being infected? Does a Deacon filled Paradise await David and Shaw? Ridley seems to hint at this Paradise being a horrible place. Damn, I can't wait for the sequel!!

I can’t get past the Paleolithic star maps. This has to be the biggest PLOT HOLE. To begin with, Shaw is an archeologist (or something like that). She obviously understands that the cave drawings were executed by stone-aged humans, not the Engineers. So, essentially, the images represent information garnered by primitive people who asked the “Gods” where they came from. The “Gods” then indulged their supplicants by indicating their origin via celestial bodies. How, then, can Shaw conclude the images are an “invitation”--or that they want us to “come find them”? There’s no basis for this assumption, for several reasons. I. If the Engineers sought to communicate with us, logic dictates that they would simply come back to Earth as they had several times in the past. Why direct Humans to draw maps for future generations to decipher? 2. If LV-223 is a supposed “weapons instillation” as implied in the script, why would the Engineers delineate it as their home, as implied by Shaw and her research? 3. If the maps were an intended invitation, and the Engineers assumed Humans would someday possess interstellar space ships, why would they want us to “come find” their weapons depot? 4. If the maps are a warning to “stay away”, why wasn’t this indicated in Shaw’s research? She had several cultures to cross reference. Also….at least three of the pictograms are shown to be less than two-thousand years old. The one from Hawaii was dated in the 700’s CE. So, that means they’ve been here at least three times since the surviving Engineer on LV-223 went into stasis (this is interesting for a whole set of other reasons). It also implies that the Engineers only reveal themselves to primitive cultures who paint on cave walls. Had they appeared to the more sophisticated Romans during the Italian Renaissance, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel may have turned out differently. It’s a great movie, but this little did bit keeps nagging at me.

Yes, I guessed it's something that bothered Shaw, too. A lot. Next time you watch the movie, look out for the bit where she says 'We were wrong. We were so wrong.'
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

I think the reason they pointed at the system where their weapons depot was is because if we ever possessed interstellar spacecraft we would go to a place that would almost definetly kill everyone that went there so it was also a trap for us. Please prove me wrong.

There were more plot-holes and inconsistencies in this flick than a Paul W.S Anderson film. This pretty much sums it up for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBaKqOMGPWc

Well at least now I know how the Engineer got to the lifeboat. I actually think they don't need a mask to breath because that's what the suit is for. It produces oxygen into the body. Then again the Engineer did take a breath before butting the S.J mask in the chair.

I have quite a few questions about prometheus that i was trying to figure out but got nowhere. Like what were the engineers running from in the hologram, and why they were all piled together, and also when david goes into the juggernaut there is a dead engineer stood up....? Also what is the green egg thing in the muriel room? And the alien being crucified on the wall?? RS says nothing about it on the DC. There are also loads more dome buildings that no one even acknowledges. I also noticed that the interior of the dome and ship are similar to what the aliens put all over the walls in 'Aliens', its like camouflage. Maybe thats the engineer in them, or the aliens had been there before the prometheus crew, or it has nothing to do with it at all..... Also prometheus does not carry on straight to alien, but now everyone knows who the space jockey is and what hes doing, the only thing different is that they're eggs not urns and what has made that happen? Or was the alien that come out of the space jockey a mother alien that laid the eggs. Also when the crew are about to enter the muriel room, what is the greeny goo David encounters on the entrance door? Is it alien goo or engineer blood? or infected engineer blood? He should of put that into holloways drink instead. One last thing is;when they're in the bit with breathable air, what is the liquid pouring down? Is it water? Dont actually know, so anyone know anything about my questions let me know because i cant stop thinking about prometheus months after ive watched it, dont think ive ever done that with any other film...maybe donnie darko.

".. Like what were the engineers running from in the hologram, and why they were all piled together, .." Was it really a mass grave,,,created by ruthless beings,,,not yet seen. The most Engineers we have seen in one location... Were they all there to maintain the Juggernaut? I mean the last Engineer was willing to take off all by himself so were the other Engineers all there to maintain thestarship> It has been suggested that there was other activity in the pryamid,,,not all Engineers were there to fly Juggernauts.. Judging by the sheer numbers,,the Engineers were doing more than polishing up a spaceship dcheduled for a visit to planet Earth..

I think the opening scene has been lost a little here too. There is a sense of betrayal here as the original lone engineer figure opening the spheroid vial , drinking deeply, was expecting an experiencesomething more like the elixir of life. The black goo seems more associated with the Xeno creatures than the engineers throughout the film. Until now their Xenophon enemy is not portrayed as technologically superior, but rather just one hell of a tough persistent insectoid, so there seems to be a little confusion as to the origin of the black goo. The remaining fragment of DNA seemed more like a chotic oversight than the original intention of starting a humanoid race. Surely the advanced technology of the engineers did not need such a chaotic means of achieving their purpose. How about some more thought and discussion on this.

Sense of betrayal? How do you arrive to that conclusion?!?

"..Surely the advanced technology of the engineers did not need such a chaotic means of achieving their purpose..." Although the goo is a key point in the movie,,it dowesn't quite feel right that it was developed by the Engineers,, Seems too different from the little we know about them. It is more like it was discovered in their travels, somehow seen it at work..and gathered/utilized the goo to achieve their stellar development plans.. I mean it has a complicated storage(big head room) witha dispersal system(Juggernaut cargo room)) needed..but not explained.

"22)Why does David put Shaw to sleep when she asks him to take the alien fetus out? First, putting Shaw to sleep and in cryo is the most rational actions he could take as the med-pod only works on males and they don't have the personel to do the procedure." I believe that David wants to put her in Cryo because he wants to preserve it and take it back for further studies. As did the other cyborg in Alien and the other Weyland personnel in Aliens. This has been the main motive in all Alien movies

Yes I think David wanted to preserve whatever was in Shaw for Weyland Corp to exploit as needed. Even though David is developiung his own set of priorities he still a Company man check out his fingertip 'Logo" You mentiuon that the Med Pod was set for males which is true. If Shaw could get around this limitation to abort the fetus.. I would think David coul;d also..if he wanted to. Davis was acting in his own interest first and Shaw's was secondary a dangerous choice for humans.

Engineering, I can tell you cant understand movies or read subtle messages or even how the script actually does not have any plot holes. I mean talk about trying to debunk a movie leave it alone, its done, its been made. Your questions as David would say are "irrelevant". I agree with Maiafay though it just seems like these other people werent able to easily put the story together its like they wanted it to be just like ALIEN and its NOT. Yes they made the Alien species but no they are not elephant people who are 15 ft tall. There are different types of black goo: one for mutation and one for destruction through mutation. By the way people a PLOT HOLE is something that does not connect at all and completely contradicts the story line and it doesnt. Also got to YouTube.com look up Prometheus explained! Even though you really shouldnt have to explain it if your born before 1990!!

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

@Anunnaki50 I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Engineering understands this movie better than most, and what he did (read his comments) was to demonstrate that Prometheus actually has remarkably few plot holes.

@Maiafay Holloway was the lead scientist of the expedition. If David had to test the goo, why not do it on a less expensive staff member like a random guard or technician? And why test it on a human? Why not take a closer look at the goo through a microscope, test it on some cells or perhaps a some lab-rat (which you would expect to have on a scientific expedition ship)? And why not quarantine the test-subject and risk the life of all crew members, including Wayland? The behaviour is counter to all scientific rationale, which is what you would expect from a highly qualified scientific crew, especially from a droid. Hence, it is a plot hole.

"Holloway was the lead scientist of the expedition. If David had to test the goo, why not do it on a less expensive staff member like a random guard or technician?" Why? Because Holloway was insulting and rude to David. And he wasn't the lead scientist – Shaw was. "Why not take a closer look at the goo through a microscope?" Maybe he did. How do you know that he did not? The entire mission was geared towards getting Weyland in front of his makers. Lab rats were probably the last thing on Weyland's mind when he conceived of the mission.

Weyland's life has been getting results. In this mission he needed results as soon as practical, even sooner if a shortcut can be used, He was desparate as he sees the ending of his life, What would a sleep chamber for real lab rats look like?

11) Why does David shine a flashlight at a hologram? I have another solution for this activity by David. He likely had some vague concept of what would happen upon making the finger strokes. Once he saw the holagram, he was using flashlight to direct the attention of the rest of the crew. Additionally, this would make his activity not necessarily human nature but more his use of analyzing human reactions.

I like the idea, some have discussed, of David's algorithm, which almost required an acceptance by Halloway of his fate. I can see two factors in this; 1) That Weyland, even as egomaniacal as he was, felt that at least his son should have some moral caliber. And thus programming him to be able to use again, his analysis of human psychology, to elicit the response he needed to justify his actions. Halloway may have simply been the best candidate for the job: Age, build, features from some perspective of what humans regard as acceptable in appearance... Who better for an android to choose; when their could possibly be an evolution into some eternal being; as must be some crack-pot’s (Weyland) concept of how the goo might be of some aid in his preservation? 2) Weyland, may not have liked the guy either. Possibly he was even a little jealous that he wasn’t holding hands with Shaw frolicking around in alien castles. Maybe he recommended using Halloway as the guinea pig.

1) Is sacrificing one of their kind really the best way they have to create life on earth in the beginning of the film? Perhaps the Engineer (or "Prometheus" as I like to call him) had already given "fire" to the humans - and was banished/executed for his crime (forced to take a suicide pill). The movie doesn't say anything about the engineers creating life on earth, and I was surprised when I read about this online. The only reference is something like 'two centuries of evolution' - but that doesn't imply evolutionary theory in its entirety is to be disregarded (or reduced to low cell count organisms). 26)If LV-233 is in fact an "experimental weapons depot" why would the Engineers give humans a map to it? My answer: they changed their mind (after they saw humanity as a threat - having the capacity to become an interstellar competitor within a few millennia if not sooner), and so perhaps they changed the station from creation mode to destruction mode, rather than building a new outpost 15)How is human dna and engineer dna a match yet there are differences between them? At this point in history, genetic science has developed the capacity to recognise what genetic differences (or decoding thereof) counts as an evolutionary pathway (defining a predecessor) - and therefore a match. We have like 98% chimpanzee DNA and ~40% flower DNA - the encoding is more complex than a one-to-one mapping.
