Turns Out Snakes Don't Make Good Pets... Even Alien Ones

I sure wouldn't stick my face up to a king cobra, even though I know what it's capable of. I definitely wouldn't stick my face up to an unknown, eyeless, alien life-form that popped up out of some mutagenetic tar that I wish some cowardly (and evidently highly recommended biologist for the Prometheus mission) likewise did. What? He can run away from a room with a headless Engineer with the redhead, and then stick his face up to an unknown life-form during an act of brevity? Did I miss something during the character development, as brief as it was?

Yea that scientist was clearly drafted into the group for his utter fearlessness in the face of obvious danger. So desperate to make alien contact. And it totally resembles a vagina. It's a mass with a vertical slit at it's center, with a single eye at it's top. Then it spreads itself apart (hard to not get pornographic) it seems ever more so. What's really ironic is that it forces itself down the first opening it can find.
