An excerpt from the article below, that discusses whether Prometheus will go onto become a sci-fi classic. Very interesting read, though quite bold.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

NOT HAPPENING!
Unless they are payed to say it is AS GOOD AS 2001, then anything is possible.
But seriously... "on the same level as 2001: A Space Odyssey"???????
NEVER

The Truth
MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 5:06 PMWhile I really liked the movie there is one imporant thing that the guy who wrote that doesn´t seem to know. Ridley Scott did not create the idea that we could be descendants of an ancient alien race. The guy in the article is stating it like if this was some kind of new mind blowing idea. The idea of space engineers has been around for decades. Aside from that I do agree this is the kind of movie that leaves you thinking and wondering instead of answering all the questions.

MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 5:16 PMAfter I watched it the 2nd time, missing scenes were definitely more noticeable. For instance, the scene where they think Shaw is sleeping as they're about to put a contamination suit on her only to be thwaked over the head by her. There's a scene missing between that and when they all accompany Weyland to see the last Engineer. An extended cut will do wonders for this film.

I only watched once and there seems to be a lot of scenes missing. The folks here were also kind enough to point out that Sir Ridley stated there are more or less 20 minutes missing from the movie. That would explain some oddities as well.
As for an extended cut: YES PLEASE

MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 7:54 PMAs soon as I read, "Simply put, Prometheus is a wholly engulfing movie. Populated with head-scratching questions that probe to the very deepest cores of our intellect..", I was hit, with force of a runaway locomotive, by the suspicion that thing was written by some form of absurdly improbable, credulous buffoon.
As I reached the end, I found that my suspicion seemed to have been confirmed.

I'm happy for Matt that he is so jazzed about Prometheus, but I have to say that I'm a bit dubious that Prometheus’ legacy will live up to his expectations. The ONLY hope for it to attain this kind of cult status is for the sequels to elevate it. I do believe that that is possible, however. The *potential* is there.

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 7:08 AMWill Prometheus be considered a classic? Yes, by fans of Michael Bay and Jersey Shore. It's entertaining at least, like any film starring Jackie Chan.

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 8:00 AMY'all are way too critical of this movie. I happen to love movies that make you think and have some depth. Do I also like action movies by Michael Bay? Yes. Does that make me shallow and stupid? No. Just because you wanted this movie to change your life...which, I'm sorry, no movie should do that...especially not a sci-fi movie, doesn't make it bad. In time you will understand...maybe.

I'm sorry to disagree with you there, but actually 2001 - A Space Odyssey is still considered to be the perfect movie in all ways a movie can possibly be. It delivers as an art form, food for thought [lots of it], Aesthetic wise and acting wise. Plus a superb Sound Track and memorable dialogues, scenes and sound.
Is one of the most "nodded at" movies besides The Exorcist, and easily the most saught after formula [in execuo with the Exorcist].
There are tons of Thesis that mentions it or are based upon it [and in many areas beside cinema].
Sci-Fi wise it's FX are still the best you'll get plus with aesthetic value.
But I dare asking what would [in your oppinion] the perfect movie be?

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 12:01 PMA classic? It could happen. The ideas in the movie are not original but I'm sure this movie will expose those ideas to people who have never thought about things in that way. Only time will tell really...

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 12:48 PM@Merc7...your connotation was implied and noted. I retaliated..sorry, if you don't like it, don't take shots. Also I'm not a kid, nor am I angry. What about that sentence implies anger? Again, don't fire the gun unless you're prepared to take fire yourself.
@David1 I agree, it's a great movie for all the reasons you've noted...but perfect? To answer your question, I don't think a movie can be perfect. I'm not trying to be snobby or anything, I like a TON of movies for a lot of different reasons. Some of them probably aren't regarded as great, but I don't expect perfection.

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 2:49 PMwith that plot/dialogues/whateva holes, Prometheus has a ´problem´with itself. though basic story ideas, designs, sets, actors were brilliant.
as good as BRAZIL ???? IN NO F WAY. I even consider Brazil as good as 1984..

I meant 2001 being the perfect movie in the Sci-Fi department.
Of course there will never be an all encompassing movie about EVERYTHING there is.
Same thing as saying there is a perfect painting or a perfect piece of music or architecture. There isn't. But you can say that there are the best ones in a certain area.
