Could Vickers be alive?

I think Meredith Vickers might still be alive for the sequel. The reason I think this is firstly her escape from the Prometheus, I think it has significance beyond simply what her character would try to do. Next, we don't actually see her die, we just hear her cry out as the ship rolls forward. She might have lucked out as Shaw did and gotten into a hollow, then escape when the ship fell sideways. When Janek is telling her to escape, he mentiones her "separate module"/"escape pod", specifically saying it has "two years" worth of life support. Earlier in the film, Fifield mentions that the travel time from earth was two years, as does David when he says he has been studying proto-langauges for two years... Of course, she has the Deacon alien thing to deal with, but perhaps somehow that's the genesis for the derelict on LV-426. My full thoughts on the film here.

It was 2 and a half years unless she can hold her breath for 6 months plus the time it takes to send the message and get another team to come get her etc. . Anyway maybe there is nearer help? cryo tube her self - wasnt the lifeboat messed up anyway at the end? ...a million answers and no way of know for now : ( ....

Nope. She's dead.

She's squished for sure. Shaw was lucky that it was a rounded part (from the 'hammer type extension) above her, that was already curving up from the bottom of the ship, and therefore not the lowest part of the ship as it rested. Vickers was hit by the main part of the ships body. And the suit has limited oxygen, and she'd be the first thing attacked by the Xeno if she wasn't already dead as a result of the biggest steamroller gag in cinema history.

I'm sure she's dead. I was expecting her to die in a more uhm.. interesting way, but if that's how the creators wanted, so be it. And as someone said, I think I saw it too, I mean, the lifeboat getting a bit messed up when it was released from the main ship. And with Deacon in it, she would have 0 chances to survive even if somehow she managed to avoid the rolling ship.

I think you guys are probably right, but I have a feeling they've left it open, with some creative license on the part of the 2nd script. Think about it, these are the two heads of the Weyland corporation. They would be like demigods in the corporate run future of the Alien franchise. Who's to say that the Prometheus is the only ship of its kind? They might have known that something would go wrong and have already arranged for a second vessel to be traveling toward LV-223. Fifield: Look, um, no offense, but I’ve been asleep two years. I ain’t here to be your friend. I’m here to make money. You got that? David: I spent two years deconstructing dozens of ancient languages to their roots. I’m confident I can communicate with them provided you thesis is correct. Janek: Vickers, I’m going to eject your life support module to the surface. That’s two years of life. You want it or you want to stay with me? You got 40 seconds to get to the escape pod. I'm not hoping that Charlize's character is still alive, mind you, it just seems like it all adds up to them suggesting that she might still be alive, damaged craft or no-- it's still a chance. The biggest opponent of the theory is the fact that she screams when the ship "rolls over her". But again, like in a lot of movies, we don't actually see it. Scott pulls out to a wide shot of the ship, classic get-out-of-jail clause, if you ask me. Also, how is Shaw going to survive on the alien ship, even if it has a more advanced FTL drive or space-folding mechanism, she will still need food to eat and water to drink. Maybe she'll subsist on Hammerpedes and the non-freezing water from the terraforming process? :P I still don't know how Vickers would survive against the Deacon alien, though. I think this might be addressed in the sequel-- perhaps she traps it aboard one of the other ships somehow and then (somehow) launches it so that it crashes on LV-426? Or maybe she becomes a brood queen, a la Starcraft? :P

If she is alive she's an android. Scott did hint at there being a 2nd android in the film. And them giving and Theron taking such a small part gives me pause. I don't really care or know either way.

Now that's an interesting premise. Originally I had thought that Vickers might be an android (particularly when she grimaced at Weyland saying that David was "the closest thing he had to a son"-- I thought he had meant "child", but either way...), but recent post-release interviews have made me doubt that hypothesis. I don't know if there's been official word, but some sites have flatly said that no, she is not an android (although the obvious age gap is strange).

She calls out Weyland as "Father" just like Roy Batty does his creator in BLADE RUNNER. Ridley meant this as a direct reference or not, we don't know but there is a certain emphasis on the word "father" as Charlize says it in that scene. Also, can an android have so much empathy for her creator? David doesn't seem to care whether the meeting with an Engineer could be the end of Weyland. Can an android feels envy or jealous and acts on these feelings? She definitely shows her displeasure when Weyland calls David the closest thing to a son. But it would be neat if she survives. The lifeboat can sustain her for 2 years, and the journey to the planet takes 2 years. I don't think it is a coincidence that the writers put this in the script. The sequel could be about the conflict between Shaw, a believer of Benevolent Engineers, and Vickers, a pragmatic skeptic who probably prefers to call in the ...Colonial Marines to settle the score.

Sorry, I just have to say, Crabfart (heh heh) is right: Vickers: Robe! How long? David: 2 years, 4 months, 18 days, 36 hours, 15 minutes. Which of course doesn't mean she could somehow stretch that out, or again, some creative timing could be happening in the recap. I just watched Alien and Aliens, and I think Cameron made an excellent action movie follow up, although I could understand why Ridley Scott was gutted to have not been given the opportunity. Anyway, I would love to see a return of the Colonial Marines to the big screen. It's still a distinct tragedy that they killed Hicks off in the official cut of Alien3. Looking forward to the Gearbox game...

There is some merit in your analysis. I didnt know what to make of Vickers. I thought her character was not credible and she had a poor script. But this may be because she was an android which would mean she could survive. Just one provisos though. She shagged Janek!!

We don't see her explicitly die but we don't see her explicitly survive either. However, the weight of circumstance of what we did see suggests quite strongly that she is quite perfectly dead and at everlasting peace - as she got tremendously rolled upon by a gigantic craft. Meanwhile, the, "2-year lifeboat", is trashed into a cocked hat and there is some repulsively ugly, cone-headed, mongoloid of a thing wandering around, just looking for trouble. So, if Vickers did by some incredible chance, dodge the rolling, (which would be Indiana Jones/Looney Tunes territory), she'd probably end up dead, anyway - because I don't think any axe she might find would worry that thing much, at all. @Engineering + 1& LOL.

Actually, given the misleading links Ridley throws out there, the idea of an unfit king, not wishing to relinquish the throne adds weight to Vickers being dead, and being human. (although for me, she has quite enough weight upon her to ensure that she's dead.) Saul, did not want to relinquish his throne. When he died, it did not go to his bloodline, but to his son in law David - later known for being Kind David, and the David v Goliath David (although David 8 didn't put up much of a fight, perhaps there's a round 2, where he makes a bigger comeback than Rocky Balboa.) A son in law is not a son, but 'the closest thing' to one. I've gone into other reasons Vickers is not a robot in my thread - Give Vickers a break Her fear, her drinking to overcome it, her refusal to get off the ship onto this scary moon, her ability to defy her father.... all absent from David. And while David is acknowledged in the briefing, nowhere does Weyland acknowledge that Vickers is his own flesh and blood, which may be why she spits it out with such venomous tone.

@::-ALex-:: True. So very, very true: they do like to hide in other people's ships and then hijack and mess up that thing - but I think Shaw and her bag of David parts had already departed, so maybe the cone-headed mongoloid missed that flight? He'll be so angry.

I'm sure you're right, allinamberclad, but wasn't that whole sequence ridiculously "Indiana Jones/Looney Tunes" enough? I mean, Shaw essentially survived in the same manner, after she avoided the roll but then the ship fell sideways. I mean, it was all a bit silly, really. You guys are probably right and she's dead, but for some reason the strange nature of her escape and then death, plus the whole "two years of life" escape pod thing just lodges it in my brain. I mean, why mention it at all or why even have a lifepod? Why two years if it's not designed to survive until the second ship arrives. Perhaps Prometheus is the exploratory vessel, but they had already arranged for main colonizing or military force to arrive? I don't know, I guess from the outset they didn't expect to find anything so it's not plausible that there would be a second ship, after all...

@JonSolo Also so very true. To be personally honest, if there was one thing that I thought was worth saving from this whole thing and making up any crazy reason for it would be to, somehow, bring back the character of Vickers. But then - simply for the fact that I think being that plainly ridiculous would actually be tolerable if it only meant replacing all the dimension that Character had into the Story - I know it can never happen: because not one single thing that I would consider sense seems to have happened in this Story.

I do not know what to think of this due to good arguments on both sides. But I do not think that vickers is an android. While she was running out of time to leave the Prometheus via escape pod, you could see how she was trying as hard as she could to get her space suit on. If she was in a hurry, and was an android, I do not think she would bother even putting a suit on. There were several times in the movie that David didn't have to do specific things, because he didn't need to breathe, etc. so if vickers is an android, she would've just escaped without a suit. That's what I think.

I think she is likely dead. But if she lived its because she very well may have been a robot. Weyland was her dad and she had a male only medic machine and no sex seen thank G-d was show btw her and the captain.

Could Vickers be the first truly bio-mechanical human being?? Closest thing to a daughter to Weyland-- but only a prototype. And Theron is not lying when she says Vickers is dead and not a "robot" as we currently know them. Could she be reborn for a purpose and then cause problems for David?? A ready made cyborg-like prototype design for David to re-create and alter during his upgrade of humanity. "Sometimes to create you must first destroy." David doesn't specify who he's talking about. I originally thought Shaw was going to be the first of a handful of cyborg types of humanoid robots that are bio-mechanical. Weyland eventually thought giving androids emotions and making them more real would make for more controllable/intelligent servants. He wanted the machinery to be real, and saw Vickers as a failure because she was "too human". Ironically David's emotions have caused him to become "too human" and David denies this: "not too human I hope". Each of them is more human than human in their own ways. David being secretly more emotional than the crew. Vickers being mostly emotionless like much of the crew, and secretly more than just human flesh. So the answer to janek's question are you a robot is a complicated one because Vickers is real and a robot at the same time. She's half and half so she can't tell him-- She despises her mechanical side and what her Father has done to her. She sees herself as more real than David because she was at one point completely human. Grown in a lab out of twins that Weyland forced to keep dividing to form triplets, quadruplets and so on. Basically there are a number of Vickers clones/twins back on Earth ready to be made Bio-mechanical. This would be why there are twin orderlies aboard the craft with Weyland that attend to him/serve him and are only seen together in the movie once. The twins were originally one zygote which Weyland manipulated and forced to split into twins, triplets, and so on. In this way he could get a number of identical servants from the donors' genetic material. He grows some of his servants, and creates his "children". Weyland has been playing god a lot and messing around with creation. Vickers thinks she should run the company. When in bed with Janek she has to show him she is mostly real. Sex is a human act, so because she favors her human side she makes Janek think she's completely human by having sex with him. Like many other things in the movie she's half and half: A prequel and not a prequel. Science and Faith mixed in shaw's character, In the universe-- but a parallel story. The black liquid and the xeno genetics mixed together. David as an android who has emotional human understanding. An Alien but also the Deacon And so on and so on... Vickers has been created by her father as Weyland's own experiment in bio-mechanics. David's near immortal, extremely intelligent, and has some leadership qualities (although there's some bad leadership qualities too). Vickers less so, because she panics under the pressure and is not really in control. As a near-godly/ immortal being David may try his hand at creation. Or re-creation. He may bring Vickers back, in a way, to deceive the company and let him secretly take a place on the throne...

From a business perspective, without an heir to the Weyland Corporation there is no reason to keep that name. Had Yutani taken over (or "merged"), then the company name would probably change. It's how it works most often today anyway. It helps sell the acquisition to the shareholders and public as a new offering. "Under new management", so to speak. I like the idea of Vickers surviving. As has been said, it sets up a nice pre-zeno-Alien story. If the deacon was exposed to an urn, the resulting transformation could at least provide a path to some continuity with the classic Alien.

As Meredith Vickers is almost certainly some sort of 'skin job' (android or bio-mechanical mentioned above), or super clone, it is very likely she's alive. Look at how easily she manhandled David pinning him to the wall and holding him there. Remember that Deckard was a Nexus 6 replicant, without being aware of it. Meredith may or may not be aware that she is something similar.

I am new here but I would like to add to this discussion if I may. I believe lapetusSM is really on to something here. I am not 100% sure but I am leaning towards this theory. I believe Vickers is alive and I believe she is a hybrid, nexus 7,8 whatever you want to call it. Here's why. If you freeze the frame right before Vickers gets squished as she is raising her hands, you can see cracks all around her in the ground. So it's very plausible that the ground gave way and she is lying in a cave somewhere. I know its a stretch, but we've all seen crazier things like this happen in other movies. When Vickers wakes up from cryo-sleep, she has no sickness whatsover. What's the first thing she does? Push-ups. Ash, also an android in cryo-sleep runs in place to loosen joints. The only reason she presumably has sex with Janek is because he's suspicious of her being a robot. When he asks the question, "are you a robot?" Totally out of character, she's nice and then decides to have sex with him. Only to keep her cover from being blown. Prior to and subsequently after she's a total bitch. Also, I don't know if anyone has picked up this or its been in another thread, but I get this feeling like there is a sibling rivalry between David and Vickers. As LapetusSM points out she totally manhandles him after David talks with Weyland. His "Try harder" line has more bite when you think of it this way. It's as though he relishes being the messenger of Weylands displeasure to her. Something I could picture a brother and sister doing, fighting for a parents affection. Just my thoughts.

I'm new here myself but thanks for your contribution Jay_Slim. Also we have the direct comment from Scott when quizzed about the presence of an android on the ship (i.e. David) prior to the release of Prometheus. Scott said something to the effect that there might be two. Also interesting that the medical procedure pod in the lifeboat was calibrated for a male rather than a female (presumably with androids it doesn't matter which). I’m almost certain Meredith has made it through alive. Seems a waste of a sub-plot without her. It’s probably not an accident that it’s invariably David, Shaw and Meredith that feature in the promotional stuff.

Watch Damon Lindelof's commentary on the Prometheus Blu-ray. He says that Vickers wasn't crushed by the juggernaut. Listen carefully! This would also continue the story with the Decon and Vickers. Perhaps Vickers gives birth to the first Queen? Shaw could come back in the juggernaut and that might be the one that crashes on LV-426.

Maybe vickers is still alive and theres a backup ship arriving with the weyland corp 'people'(because id think they would want to know about peter weyland, and vickers to see who becomes the president of weyland corp, should any of them die) Carrying on, vickers would then inform the weyland corp of the weapons and dangers the engineers posess, and they find the alien deacon and struggle and kill it but realise that the aliens would help to defeat the engineers. Vickers and the weyland corp find another juggernaught ship and set its path for the engineers planet. At the same time David and Shaw would make it to the engineer planet and find out that some engineers are good and others are bad. The top engineers were not happy about the good engineers giving out life so freely, so they want to get rid of that life(cave paintings on earth could've been a trap from them. I think shaw and david will be with the good engineers trying to fend off vickers/weyland.corp attack on the planet and also the bad engineers assault on earth. Its abit out there i know...

She is so alive in Alien: Covenant  Otherwise, yes, her appearance in Prometheus is a wasted story line and her character serves no purpose.  She or Shaw is going to be the mother of the Queen or perhaps Shaw agrees to become the Queen since she could not procreate.

"Shaw agrees to become the Queen since she could not procreate."

That's some dark shit.

Vickers body was probably crushed. Charlize Theron doesn't appear in the credits of AC but who knows if she's just being kept a secret. If she is on AC or subsequent movies I think it would be best if she was in fact an android and we see another model of her (much like we're getting Walter in AC already)
