MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:15 PMI watched Prometheus fro the second time last night. My first time was opening day, so it's been a while. I really loved the movie after the first viewing, but there were some things that appeared awkward...the music, and the editing. Despite these complaints, I thought it a very solid movie...worthy of becoming a sci-fi classic.
Now...after last night? I have no idea how anyone can NOT see how amazing this movie is! The music was brilliant, and the editing made more sense and didn't feel awkward at all. There's just so much to ingest...you have to see it more than once. The plotholes people complain about are only there because the movie isn't about what they wanted it to be about...not because the movie is clumsy. This movie is definitely ahead of it's time, and WILL become a classic! IMO, of course...

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:17 PMgreat that you loved it THAT much on second viewing, I'm saving myself for the DVD extended (or rather PROPER LENGTH PROPER INTENSITY) version.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:19 PMwell said Syphonox, I liked it the second go around myself. On number 6 now, just enjoying viewing it in theaters while it's still out! Most opinions aside, the film is beautiful to look at.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:26 PMI totally agree. Upon 1st viewing - music was way out of place, editing seemed akward, but still fairly enjoyable film.
Now after 2nd viewing, it was much better film and for some reason the music actually seemed to work.
I'm going to watch a 3rd time this weekend.
Basically, I wanted this film to be ALIEN the 1st time but by the 2nd time I dropped those expectations and enjoyed it much more.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:30 PMI agree entirely Syphonox.
I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I do have to say though that something bothered me about the musical score but now that I've heard the CD, it's grown on me in fact, (IMHO) I find it quite beautiful.
Love the film and it will become a classic despite what some critics have said.
I'll stick with Roger Ebert. Highest IQ of them all and best perception of cinema.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:31 PMDid you also find the dialogue lame, the characters shallow and the plot stupid the first time?

That's a good question. I tried to go into it with an open mind...but I inevitably had supremely high expectations. I didn't think it would have much to do with/tell about Alien, so I wasn't disappointed in that sense. Obviously the scope of Prometheusd is much broader/more epic than Alien...a very confined, straight-forward movie. I think subliminally I expected the pacing/music to be like Alien, and maybe that's why I was turned off initially at those aspects. Never-the-less, I still thought it was an excellent movie the first go-round.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:47 PMIt seems like Prometheus is turning into a cult movie, the people who saw something in it are now watching it over and over and falling in love with it.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 3:53 PMSo, it didn't bother you that the characters in the movie didn't behave like real people? I've only seen the movie once and that bothered me.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 4:25 PMThis topic reminds me of Alien 3 and the multiple viewings it took to really get the movie, even though it was still a stinker… even the director said so in 2004… funny. Anyway, Prometheus has really made people expound and articulate how they feel and think about the movie. I really do see this movie reaching its goals, in more ways than one (entertainment value).

You know, I didn't find that much of a problem with the writing/character actions. You have to remember, these individuals were selected by Weyland... not a scientific organization. Aside from Shaw, Holloway, Vickers, and Weyland no one knew the magnitude/nature of the mission. They were overwhelmed in every possible way, which lead to disaster.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 4:55 PMMy advice to the haters like visualizer is to move on from this film. Go forward with your life and forget Prometheus. You have nothing to offer

Let me remind you that this community is for debating Prometheus. If you can´t handle a different opinion than your own, then maybe you are the one, who should look for another forum.
Expectations have grown over a long period of time before this movie premiered, and naturally people are now expressing their excitement, disappointment or indifference. I have read many interesting reviews and comments from both likers and dislikers.
I am open to new ways of seeing and interpretating this movie, and I actually watched Prometheus a second time, because people in here recommended giving it a second chance. So don´t call me a hater, just because you don´t agree with me.

The topic of this thread is that of a favorable review after a second viewing. Posters to this thread would be advised to stay on topic. Love it -or- hate it...at the end of the day, it, like why the engineers want to destroy us, is irrelevant.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 4:05 AMYes, I watched it for the second time last night, after seeing the recent Ridley Scott interview where he says he's extremely happy with this cut of the film and it plays exactly as it should.
I couldn't agree more, there was so much more to take in the 2nd time, and everything made much for sense.
I thought what was interesting is that it seemed to me that David (I think it was) trod on some worms outside the facility, then, we see a closeup of said 2 worms inside the chamber (with the vases/black liquid). It is implied, I believe that these 2 worms become the 'Hammerpede's', further compounding what is reiterated in the movie, that this is a weapon test facility & something went wrong.
