That’s what Prometheus made me think. I imagine you’re tired of talking about Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi film at this point — and I know that all of us geeks have pretty much aired out our criticisms, questions, defenses, counterattacks, etc. But frankly, I’m still mad. Because one of the worst habits of premium-level, expensive genre entertainment like Prometheus is that its writers tend to ignore plot — or be ignored by directors, studios and whoever else is in charge of this stuff. So this week on the Observation Deck, I have a short but heartfelt rant about what constitutes quality science fiction entertainment, and the difference between genius and well-executed crap.

YEah, i love this video from Adam. In this little video i get more emotions then in whole prometheus from its poor actors. He does not need to repeat all the points again that were already discussed in hundreds of reviews, youtube videos etc - it is as it is, and for many many people it was the disappointment of the decade..

I am assuming this is Adam. - so my response is directed at him. I saw your post - clicked on the link - watched the vid. - and here's my response: You are correct. Now, I'd like to add a few "Buts...." and "Howevers......" to your comments. This is 2012 Hollywood. The movie has to fit in the "box". What I mean by that is that it has to appeal to and meet criteria for the "average viewer". It's not you. It's not me. - Hell, it's probably not the other 10,000 people on these Prometheus Forum boards. It's the average intelligence goof that pays $20 for a ticket and a bucket of popcorn - and wants to be entertained for 2 hours with cool pictures, drooling aliens and explosions. When they design this movie, that's the target: Maximize Revenue and Appeal to the MASSES. Were there inaccuracies in the movie? Sure. Did David have his shoes tied in frame 24,742 - and then they were UNTIED in frame 24,756. ****GASP**** ****SHOCK***** The HORROR!! OMG!! What were they THINKING!?! Come on guys,..... "suspension of disbelief". Just go with it. Stop fighting the current,... turn around with the other fish.... and swim happily. Think about the overall plot. What are the possibilities here? What are the implications? THAT is the point. - to make you think. I think you know all this. So why make a video that everyone will watch and basically reply to the screen with, "Thanks for another 'No Duh?!" video Adam." You know what would be just sick though? - Make a move that is 12 hours long. Have breaks every 2 hours in the theatre for bathroom, food, phone calls, whatever. Make it epic. Make it crazy. Make it complete. Make it so that all these little tiny issues aren't disected by the science fiction nerd population for millions of forum posts. It would be like telling the movie "norm" to pour itself a nice, tall, frosty glass of STFU. - Wow. Possiblities? Definitely. Will it happen? Not for a long time. Why? Cuz it would be very expensive to produce and the revenue won't justify itself. It's going to take some Billionaire Genius like James Cameron to pull it off. Someone who has a limitless budget, a crazy cool vision and the balls to attempt it. Until then, we are stuck with Videos from Adam - that make us raise an eyebrow,... snark a little and say to ourselves, "Maybe someday dude. Maybe some day."
