MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 10:19 AMa lot of you have asked the question as to whether or not there are any female space jockeys? If so, what do they look like?
from what has been discussed about the space jockey as we know him, he has nipples and wears a loin cloth. This means he's got a 'space jock' but it also leads you to deduce that if he's got a space jock then there must be a female space jockey. otherwise, his junk is nothing more than a vestigial organ

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 1:28 PMI believe that the Engineers we've seen are male and not asexual. If this were any other film I don't even think this would be questioned but as this film raises so many questions and is dissected and theoriezed about so much it's become a topic of speculation. Humans having the same dna as Engineers, the very hard to see(imo)nipple of the Sacrifice Engineer along with the banana hammock lead me to believe that they're male which in turn leads me to believe there are females at home.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 10:27 AMThe enigneers have emotions and that means a need for the opposite sex...However, are the women homemakers or Amazons? What is their role?

MemberTrilobiteJun-22-2012 10:36 AMWe are essentially evolutionary engineered clones of the Engineers, therefore yes there are/were female Engineers.
the reasons we haven't seen 'em yet are varied and many, even if they still exist, or even if they are still recognizable...

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 10:57 AMGender could be the reason for differences between the Jockey in A L I E N, and the Engineers?
The Engineers in Prometheus could be the females anyway. Who wants to go ask Ian Whyte what gender he is!?

MemberTrilobiteJun-22-2012 11:01 AM@ dakeeps...
Okay we are essentially evolutionary engineered clones of the Engineers...
So how can the ones seen in Prometheus be female... they are obviously male.
Also the Space Jockeys and the Engineers are one and the same thing.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 11:47 AMdid someone see penises in the movie! i missed that!

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 12:28 PMThere was at least one penis rendered in 3D for the concept art.

That doesn't necessarily mean that they are functionally gendered as finally realized in the film, but David refers to the survivor as he. (Of course, that is a weakness of English. We don't have a gender neutral pronoun for sentient beings.)
The women could be extinct. That would put their culture in quite a conundrum. The reliance on longevity both temporarily resolves and complicates a situation like that.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2012 12:29 PMThat would mean space jockey kids, space jockey mother-in-laws, creepy drunk space jockey uncle's, maybe even a different race of space jockey's that resemble Shaquille O' Neal .

MemberOvomorphJun-25-2012 11:14 PMWell I do know female engineers must exist, they probably have other roles and aren't allowed to be with males in military roles.

MemberOvomorphJun-26-2012 1:32 AMOne would assume a race that can create a whole biosphere by dissolving an individual's body into the water supply has evolved beyond primitive practices like sexual reproduction. They could be genderless for all we know and reproduce by artificial means.
Or maybe there are female Engineers and they are not shown. Maybe the females look exactly like the males as long as they don't take off the loincloth...

MemberOvomorphJun-29-2012 4:38 PMI think that this could work out as humans many years ago thought of women, that maybe the engineers thought women were weaker than men and they would not be allowed in the "army" that was sent an maybe they were kept on their home planet for other jobs.

MemberOvomorphJun-29-2012 6:23 PMThat is thelikely reason why all this is happening to the Bio Engineers, perhaps their entire civilization was in decline and something, perhaps the black substance (goo) had some sort of catastrophic effect upon their females amaybe through transfusions of anything and the resulting side effects rendered them all infertile.
This had a cascade effect of decimating their entire civilization down to near extinction. The resulting bottl neck effect meant they had to resort to desperate measures to retain control of perhaps a virus that ran near rampant throughout their entire female population. That could be what they are runing from, the alien Bio Engineer version of I Am Legend's Night Seekers running afetr them to attack and feed off of them.
The remaining males went into hibernation as the advanced party while the ones outside sacraficed themselves for the few whom were still fertile males to be saved. Perhaps they were there equivalent of royalty or the aristocracy on their planet or LV 223 at least.

MemberOvomorphSep-02-2012 6:07 PMOr maybe it's the opposite. Maybe the females are the ruling class (Queens) who remain in the home planet and the makes we see in the movie are their workers and soldiers sent to do the dirty work out there. It could make sense since the Xenomorphs appear to have a similar social hierarchy.

MemberOvomorphSep-02-2012 9:07 PMAs far as we know the xeno is able to mate with any member of any species regardless of gender. The engineers could be a type of gender that we don't even know of yet or can even comprehend. They do appear very masculine though in comparrison with the gender-ambiguous look of the xeno.
