June 26, 2012I read the second review (linked as “review”). I wasn’t all that impressed with what he came up with.
1) A) I never felt that LV-223 was being cast as devoid of any kind of life. Maybe no indigenous sentient life, but little worms etc. seemed completely plausible to me.
B) Milburn was portrayed as somewhat odd/eccentric from the get go. I agree that his actions during the hammerpede encounter were odd/stupid, but his eccentricities may have been accentuated by the stress of the situation. Obviously he wasnt thinking clearly/wasnt cut out to be a part of such a high stress mission (possibly by design...weyland etc.) Stress does strange things to people. These things happen in suspense/horror movies. Not a highpoint, but doesnt come close to destroying the movie for me.
2) CLEARLY the medpod was intended for weyland (it was obvious why the thing was designed for a male wasnt it?). Getting into the ins and outs of what a fake piece of machinery does and doesnt do (and why) is splitting hairs. This is a science FICTION movie.
3) The flute is a non-issue for me. What’s the problem? It seems like steve is just searching as hard as he can on this one.
4) leaving the squid baby in the medpod....Well, Weyland and his minions were concerned with one thing and one thing only at this point (getting to the engineer in order to preserve weyland's life). Some of the other crew members were unaware of its existence and others still were trying to stay alive. Shaw was in shock/ thought the thing was dead (because of the decontamination etc). Also, shaw did not trust anyone at this point. As evidenced by David's comment regarding shaw's "survival instincts", he and the “weyland crew” knew what had happened anyways (and werent interested in a squid baby). Shaw wasnt infected so she would be killed. She was initially infected (by way of Holloway) for purely selfish/research based reasons.
5) vickers and the rolling juggernaut....Admittedly, This was silly; but again, didnt kill the experience for me. The thing was moving fast!
6) clearly the deacon is some sort of xenomorph and is related to the xenos we all know and love. Whether the deacon is a proto xeno or whether it post-dates (evolutionarily) the traditional xeno, we dont know (arguments can be made for both and other possibilities). As long as this is eventually addressed, I dont mind the movie ending without explicitly stating where the deacon fits in the bio chronology. Im not sure what he means by his last question (Space jockey/ derelict ship on Lv 426....times...locations?)
I didnt mean for my post to be so long. It just seemed liked the guy was confused by the movie and decided to pick at it. He addressed issues that didnt need addressing, poked at some aspects of the film that were clearly purposeful, and found some semi legitimate logic issues with a few of the characters that, on their own, do not destroy the movie (imo).
