@ Engineering, please excuse my ignorance on this but is this a Mad Max re-boot or continuance on the saga ?

Both a reboot and a sequel. I read a while ago that in this version Mad Max: Fury Road that there was going to be an older Mad Max and a younger protagonist, first suggested to be his son then to be just another younger Mad Max type character. Then there was talk of there being two distinct 'species' in this latter timeline of the post-nuclear future: one was a nomadic human race the other was a mutated reptillian-mammalian breed that does battle with them. They wanted to bring in the older Mad Max to introduce a newer, younger one at the same time, then there would be a series of sequels to go with it and with that the 'future-world' of Earth would be expanded upon and yet more interesting, previously undiscovered things would be introduced to the franchise during subsequent films.

Also, it is set in South Africa in this version, I think they want to expand the idea beyond it being merely connected to just the Australia outback, that this is a world-wide concept that humanity is deaing with as was done with the Terminator franchise and its concept of the wide-spread implications of the nuclear war.
