Thought this was pretty interesting. Last night I was watching Superior Firepower:The Making of Aliens. There's a part where Henriksen is talking about the character development he did for the film. He said that he and Cameron weren't quite sure how to introduce his character in a way that would stand out. He said he and Cameron were on the phone and Cameron said "...maybe the thumming of the ship and everyone else is in stasis and maybe Bishop is just wandering endlessly through the ship..." I'm not sure but I would think Ridley knew about this. I was thinking that's kinda messed up if he did. Then I thought about how Fox has all the rights and holds all copyrights on pre-production art and early drafts of scripts and everything. They obviously gave Scott carte blanche with the material in the same way they gave Sega or whoever carte blanche to create the new Colonial Marines game. I'm sure it was known that it was an idea from Aliens and that Scott wasn't sneaking around trying to use it without giving credit. Then there's the possibility that they came up with it with no knowledge of it being an idea tossed around for Aliens. I love the fact that they used ideas from Alien that they weren't able to use or achieve back in the day. What have you came across or noticed that was an homage to or an unused idea from the Alien franchise or any film for that matter? Beyond the obvious of course like the use of the derelict, space jockey design and all that. One is what would have been the egg silo in Alien. Any others?

Can't edit my post but wanted to add this... Regardless of how they came up with it David alone on the ship is one of my favorite sequences in the Alien/Prometheus(hopefully) franchise.

It's possible that RD did indeed know about this, but I always felt that the montage of David on the ship was taken from 2001? The astronaut awake, walking around, on a treadmill etc etc Maybe Cameron was influenced by this too. Amazing sequence though. Probably my favourite in the film.

I was in wonder when David 8 roamed that vast ship. It could have set the mood for the whole movie if handled properly. I still love the movie, but I have stopped second guessing the pros... Thanks for the thread. Aliens is still a movie I play once a quarter... This Time It's War.... YEAH BABY!

I always felt that Alien was stunning because RS knew how to play the 'stillness' of some scenes. There are tremendous moments of fragility in that film, and it only highlights the films darker elements. Sci-Fi after all is meant to be about humans finding more out about themselves. The further we stray from home, the more our thoughts return to what we are. Prometheus sort of moved in this direction...but it smashed us over the head with it.
