All, well most of his songs are open to interpretation, but there is usual, as is mostly the case, an influence to the lyrics... and in this case it was substance abuse. Downward Spiral (Halo 8) was written, composed and mixed when he was high as hell and when he was living where Sharon Tate was murdered. he was in a very dark place After the release of the album he had a series of wake up calls - meeting Sharon Tates sister, the death of his gran (whom had raised him) and pleas from his family to stop. He heeded the calls and cleaned up his act. The fragile (Halo 14) was written, composed and mixed as he was in the process of rehab. Since then he has realised that his talent did not come from substance abuse, but that it is his gift and since has gone from strength to strength - Null Corporation (his own record label), married (to Mariqueen), a father, an Oscar (Best Original Score - Social Network) for his first ever film score and a second band to his name (How To Destroy Angels).
