I just assumed because Vickers was so important, her pod would automatically be activated first on a normal flight, or in any emergency. I assume the same goes for Capt. Janek. I never noticed anyone else waking people up, will look closer once the DVD comes out.

Good observation, I will investigate this. I still need to see this movie in 3D anyway, great excuse.

@Svanya, it's definitely not Vickers or Janek, and neither could it be as they would all be in a state where they can't even help each other, let alone themselves at that point.
The individual is dressed similarly to David also.

There are 17 on board. Some work in the cargo hold, and we see little of them other than when Fifield kills them (Wallace, Davis and Byrnes/Burns) 2 more we see later on helping Weyland prepare, they are identical twins, (or clones), so it can look like it's just one guy who 'shifts around' between camera angles.
They die off screen, apparently killed by the squid (possibly sent there by David, or simply to warm up the MedPod for Weyland, expecting him to return alive from meeting his maker. )
I'd imagine it was one of those two that you saw at the start. I don't think we are ever told their names or their purpose.

How can it be though? Theyre all in cryosleep recovery, no?
It's definitely one guy, trust me.

Who said they were all woken at the same time?
Better to wake the medic, her orderlies, and then the passengers.
That would make more sense than waking everyone at the same time, cos the medic would still be too groggy herself to help anyone else in trouble.

Re-read the context of what I wrote, the twins look like one guy shifting, in the scene with Weyland.
trust me.
Nothing personal but I'll trust observation rather than assurances.
If there had been an internet when I was young, my momma would have told me not to trust the strangers I meet there :p

Who said they were all woken at the same time?
The time it's happening and the amount of time they appear to need to recover doesn't fit for it to be THAT staggered - although iv'e not discounted that as a possibility. It would mean the flow and pacing of those scenes is all wrong if that is the case, however.
the twins look like one guy shifting, in the scene with Weyland.
And look at the context i'm on about. Different scenes altogether.

I could easily go and find some screencaps, but i'm not one to put the integrity of this forum in question doing that on here or potentially break any rules.
My point is, if there isn't a straight up explanation to that individuals existence at that time and place. It struck a chord with me the very first time I saw it.

@MVMNT
Staggered? They dropped out of warp on Dec 21st and arrive on LV223 on Dec 25th... there's 4 whole days to stagger it out the wake up, feeding and briefing.
I know they were different scenes I was clarifying that in my refernce to 2 looking like 1 I wasn't referring the wake up scene.
I don't think you'd be breaking rules. Film is out in the English speaking world already. There's no 'spoiler' restrictions. Otherwise I'd have been hauled up for talking about 2 guys dying off screen, killed by a squid.
What is so mysterious about the guy? Is he not one of the orderlies we saw again briefly at the end?

SvanyaJuly 02, 2012
@MVMNT; You misunderstood, I meant Vickers and Janek get woken up without help, it gets done automatically because they are an important part of the crew.
I never noticed anyone else waking people up, will look closer once the DVD comes out.

Perhaps in the continuity of time between edits one or two were awoken allowed to recuperate and when fit enough they, in turn, helped the others wake up. The re-editing has made this seem a little confused, maybe one other awoken just recovered well enough to help out. I'm not sure as they would all have been asleep for two and a half years or so. I'm just trying to account for what events that could have transpired off-screen inbetween the cuts from scene to scene.

Perhaps this is where the wrong-footing on the film makers part is apparant, there could in fact be two davids, each with 'pre-programed' agendas. And this makes for an interesting game of chess where-by the people present are both the players and the pawns.

Here's a GIF of the sequence:

If this is breaking any forum rules - by all means take it down. I lifted it from Youtube...

Looks like Vickers by the hair. . . might be the second medic too.
