So we were not alone - and neither were the Engineers

Another thought and theory... So Prometheus went to search other life with only one star map in tow directing them to only one place. Now what if there were other lifeforms out there and the Engineers had been to visit them also and done the same thing with them as they had with us? Perhaps, just perhaps they had been to many planets, given birth to many lifeforms, and had been checking up on them periodically to see who was most suitable to be used for the furthering of their species. therefore the 'Deacon' was seen as the supreme evolution from whoever they chose. The epitome of the supreme breed. Where we were all guinea pigs used to get there. When we were the first to come knocking, and it had become apparent we had become gods ourselves, it sealed the deal. We had to be put in our place. It just strikes me as a bit of a 'needle in a haystack' situation that of ALL the planets in ALL the star systems it is 2 years away in a spaceship for us to be the only ones. There may have very well been others 2 years in any other direction from LV-223 that they had seeded life to

It's more than likely that the Prometheus was not launched from Earth. If you do a bit of searching on the Weyland Industries site you will find that R&D for the current series of FTL vehicles is taking place on the Levon colony which is Gliese 667 CB at 22 LY's distance from Sol. The largest spaceport facillities are on the Statler colony which is HD 86264 BM an is listed as nearly 467 LY's from Sol. Although KOI-1422.02: Tzu-Chi City at 1043 LY's from Sol is credited with being the Key manufacturer for machinery and vehicles for colony development. The common note among all of the settlements is that they haven't discovered anything much in the way of extrasolar life beyond simple remnants of multicellular organisms. It's all quite fascinating, the deeper you dig into the site the more of this universe I want to see.

Another ambiguity that the film itself doesn't follow through on however. If you didn't go into all the viral pre-amble you would suspect that they came from Earth however

Colony development must have developed at a fast rate from early 21st century,,to be operating at places 1043 LY away from earth.in under 100 years! AT At that rate,,humans would have not needed to return to Earth during their lifetime as they are colonizing new worlds becomes their home. I suspect that humans are not sacrificing themselves at every solar system they come across,,,like the Sacrificial Engineers..
