Okay, I am so tired of people Prometheus was a bad movie.. The point is to NOT go in expecting any relevance to Alien at all. Ridley Scott even said it was going to be nothing like it, and he was right. People go in expecting aliens and slaughter, it is more of a Sci-Thriller, and it is supposed to make you keep guessing untill the sequel ( Already Officialy Planned) and people don't like it because they got confused. They did the same thing about Alien, and everything was later explained in the sequels. Same applies here. Most likely the Derelict was flying from LV 233 to LV 426, and the Deacon Alien reproduces. Just a guess. It WILL be explained in the sequel. It was made to keep people guessing and it succeeded. Thats what I went for and thats what I got. I give this movie 8 out of 10 stars. Don't comment and say the movie sucks unless you can back it up. -Toaster

I don't think that the people who did not like it expected it to be anything like Alien. No one I spoke to mentioned that as a reason, it was the pace of the movie that had people upset.

the fact they couldnt expect any of it is what made it fast paced, because they were expecting something else.

I can remember when the first Alien film came out.My sister told me about it cause I was only eleven.I can remember her telling me about the different creatures and there was a definite "what the heck is that" factor involved when my sister and her friends watched it.Every time the audience saw a new creature they were left to guess as to what it was and did. When they found out what it did it just led to more questions. I think in that aspect Ridley really did mimick the first Alien film by taking the audience deeper into the mystery :)

If the movie stood alone and was far removed from the Alien universe; it is still a badly acted, plotted movie. Special/visual effects are awesome but everything else subpar. My rating is D+

When I saw the film I actually said to more then one person that it was the worst film ever made. Obviously this was hyperbole, but I genuinely believed that it was a very bad film. However, I was aware that my reaction was in part influenced by expectation arising from the fact that Scott was directing and there were at least some links to Alien. Therefore, I conceded at an early stage that my opinion could change over time. Now, nearly 4 weeks later I am very confident that all the reasons that I initially disliked the film were quite correct. It is an unoriginal idea, badly scripted, badly edited and badly acted (except Fassbinder). Mala'kak Pilot, you say that people like me are at fault for expecting a prequel to Alien. On the contrary, I was entirely prepared for a film that was not a prequel to Alien - I only expected some vague linkage. Despite my intial expectations, I am now judging it as a stand alone film/concept. However, while critics of the film like me are prepared to judge it on its own merits, it is interesting that Scott was not. He, or the producers collectively, chickened out at the end. It is clear they were worried that people would feel the film didn't stand on its own, so they threw in a xenomorph right at the end. It didn't make a whole lot of sense, like the rest of the movie, but at least, they obviously hoped, it might attract a few more punters to buy tickets for the hoped-for sequel. Rating? 4 out of 10, mainly for Fassbinder, some of the special effects, and a couple of creepy moments. 2 or 3 out of 10 without Fassbinder.

Yeah Matt we know we know...you didn't like it...you've already posted your view in yet another post instead of putting up your own thread like everybody else...what's the point and who's listening.

I loved Prometheus. My husband and I thought it was really good. It showed how the face huggers came to be and how inside us the alien becomes what weve seen in Alien. Loved the the c-section scene that was crazy and was sad cause she always wanted a baby and to come out pregnant like that was just wrong. Looking forward to part 2 cause they have to make a second part I need to see what happened when she found the others and got the answers she is desperate for.
