Has anyone read the book of Enoch. This movie reminded me of this lost bible book. I remember something about angles mating with human women and creating a race of giants. So I think the engineers are this angel race that made the decision to terminate the human race 2000 years ago out of jealousy over God choosing mankind and through Jesus. I am not super religious or anything but the whole God and creator thing made me remember bites and pieces of random things I have heard about christian religion.

It makes you think of lucifer and his turning from good to evil. This idea also makes me think of the Ainur in The Silmarillion who descend down to the newly created 'world' (Earth) in this world. They in turn have off-spring that become the elves and they are the children of the firstborn.
