Revisting Face Huggers (May 2012)

That we should forget the idea and accept a new story line for these life forms in Prometheus.
Still, I do see some backward extension into Prometheus. I agree they are snake-like as opposed to boney-phalangial. The Pro forms don’t spew acid that we ever saw.
But they do implant the xenomorph embryo into their host, and it did die collapsed on the host once done. And true to form, they do go down the throat. All of which seems too, too deliberately connected to what comes later in the Trilogy.
What of course throws everything off is that unlike the Trilogy, there is no Queen to lay them as intermediate delivery devices, albeit they do get cultivated in roughly similar containers. They are in Pro a cultivated life form by the Engineers, but in Trilogy they have been taken over by the Queen so as to be birthed by her as an intermediate device, no longer of any independent purpose.
Yet in Pro we find that their independent purpose out from under the control of the Engineers was to implant the prototype of the xenomorph – yet without a Queen.
‘Tis a mess. But not so entirely broken with the Trilogy as was made out.
