Ampule Room Ceiling Mural

Have you tried looking in the Prometheus.com image gallery? I am sure at least one picture you are talking about is there. :)

Svanya, do you have a link to the pic you're talking about? Also, while we're on the subject of the art book, most of the pics I've seen from it have the deacon, trilobite and others, but with descriptions in French. Do you know of any threads or pics with these in English? Precursors, as far as the pic you're talking about I'd love to see it so I can give you some feedback on my thoughts about it. I had assumed the murals Giger did for the film we're of course the one on the ceiling, but the relief of the crucified xeno as well. I'd like to see any other work he did for this film as well.

i saw the movie again and you are correct.

I didnt see the picture im talking about on the web yet however if someone has a scanner and the art book it is the first double page spread in that book which is the mural on the ceeling in the ampual room.

@precursors: i went back and looked in my "the art of the film" book, but i didnt see the image you are talking about. human adults, human children, facehuggers? Im not seeing any of that. I see a xenomorph's hand holding an egg. and then in the other image... I see an engineer standing next to some sort of being (another engineer possibly?) who is going through some sort of a transformation (transforming into a xeno?...possibly?).

I think that ceiling pic is of the engineer next to what is supposed to be an alien dog type creature. I've seen the animal painting in a Giger artwork book. Possibly representing his "pet"?

No I am pretty sure its most likely an engineer creating the xeno type creature from his arm probably much like the start of the film (a representation of creating the xeno type creatures)...but it is unsure I know...

Someone help, lol. i cannot make out the Engineer in this photo....even the high rez one. BTW. thanks for posting Precursors!!!

On another topic re murals. Looking at the one with the Deacon being "crucified" above the deacons head seems to be a classic xeno head as well. Don't think it means anything tough, but it is cool. Also re the homages to HR Giger with the two guys being face hugged I noticed looking in the HR Gigers Alien book that the engineers were already painted there.

The one referred to above as the Ampule Room I reckon could even be some kind of vision or prediction (made a long time ago maybe by an elder) of the coming of the deacon or xeno and the face huggers possibly in conjunction with the fall of there empire - might be a good reason to try and get rid of us but then it backfired and became the reason for there fall?! I know stretching out on a limb :S ...There is quiet allot of swirly clouds on it like a dreamy scene :P

Do you remember the scene where David knelt in front of one of the ampules whilst the goo started to leak out of it. It looked like it could move by itself, very similar to the swirliness in the deacon mural. I wonder if the goo can grow itself into a being of some sort, xeno perhaps.

I have always believed this was a take on the famous prometheus sculpture. The body is clearly alien and to make it subtle the head is a eagle. When we enter the chamber and it changes the gods have just lost control of their creation.

When I look at that mural, what I see is more a precursor to the engineers we see in the movie. I have always been annoyed with oversized anatomically incorrect helmet, that shaw removes from the engineer head. However when you look at the mural the creature looks to be wearing the same type of armour/bio-suit that the engineer is. Also the head seems to be more proportionally correct for the helmet.

Kind looks like sacrifice or something like that, like they are measuring what will happen. Other my suggestion is that the mural tells their mission. In one of the pictures it looks like some sort of dog munching a face hugger - -'' Btw I only see an adult with an Engineer, where's the kid?

@feebs: there is no child. im not sure what the OP was talking about. Looks to me like this particular mural is of an engineer and some other humanoid being (presumably another engineer) who is morphing into some sort of xeno etc. Like i said in my other post, the image in "the art of the film" book is quite clear.

I don't think H.R. Giger had anything to do with P R O M E T H E U S , who was the artist of the 'rolling back (Christ) door' and the 'good doggy' image? Who's artistic vision was all that?

I remember wondering what that mural was as it was only shown for a second in the movie, the Giger sculpture that Crabfart referenced is a much clearer representation of the left side of the mural and I think the center figure is an Engineer but what he has his hand on is probably a Giger invention pure and simple and purposely left undefinable to add mystery to the mural. As to the figure he is reaching for on the right it might be a very small humanoid, but even looking at the hi res version I cant tell what it is, and again, it might just be another of the myriad visions that comes from the superb mind of Giger.

During a recent viewing of the crew entering the Big Head Room it was curious to see the reaction to the first viewing og thje Ceiling painting. I say painting because that is what David calls it. Shaw calls it a mural. To they are similar words but with David being an android would he be more right? This is the changing mural that Shaw reacts to. I am not sure that this thread has been giving enough attention as it depicts Engineers, not xenos, and is the changing feature in the room that causes all crew to get out of the tunnels. From the actual scene depicted on the ceiling is a strong message about something. Looking at the Dog like figure must have some signifigance not only because of the detail but it's placement high above all else in the room. If there are other threads that go into more detail of this ceiling depiction please advise.

It looks likes the ceiling mural is telling some sort of story regarding the Prometheus myth. Let me explain... The kneeling "creature" looks as if it has the head of an eagle. The eagle headed creature is on the same side as the Titans liver but has been conquered or subdued by Prometheus. I have read previous threads in this forum discussing the ancient myths theme of the movie and it seems pretty spot on. Any thoughts for the people that have researched this theory and how it plays into the movie?
