Power source

Err, I don't know about that. Static Electricity can and does retain potential, but there isn't any real way to regulate it. Touch screens work well because of static fields being interrupted, but that is mostly because the signal is more like a communication grid- brief displacements of energy. Opening doors and launching spacecraft require continuous voltage and current. The Juggernaught might somehow utilize static electricity on LV-223, but can it reliably find such storms on other planets? Powering items in the structure built on this same planet could somehow be achieved this way, but is static electricity the core technology that the engineers use? Lightning is the best description of a static electrical mechanism. The energy builds up, and builds up until it finds a way (conductive arc) to discharge all at once.

I imagine that the power source would be some completely exotic alien technology that even the designers of the Prometheus would begin to understand. For all practical purposes, limitless energy on demand. Unlikely to be electrical, I would have thought, IMHO.

With so little known about this moon..any power source could have been hidded right in front of the Prometheus landing site... Yes there seems to be a need for a power source....but what kind of power? I think of power in terms of electricity., Who is to say what kind of power if availible in advnced power.. But if the storage area in the caves..was actually used by the Engineeers,,then dependable power supply must be there,,,,and found.. Check out the power supply used by the Krell in the movie 'Forbidden Planet '..

In the Novel for Alien, the Nostromo find a possible power source in the Derelict from a Perpetual Motion device that was like a metallic orb moving through a cylinder.
