Social LiasonMemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 1:35 AMI've been reading a bit of H.P Lovecrafts works
and came across some interesting ideas
that sound familiar..........
In his Cthulhu Mythos there are a couple of interesting characters
The Great Elders- ancient powerful dieties from space
once ruled Earth and had a philosophy of cosmic indifference
Dark Water God-Malevolent entity trapped in water resembling and octopus/dragon/human
In his book Mountains of Madness he refers to the Star Spawn who warred with another race called The Elders before the Dawn of Man
I seem to remember reading somewhere they were going to make a movie
based on Mountains of Madness but they pulled the plug for some reason???
anyway.....
I wonder if P2 is going to take us to meet this Water God?

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 1:55 AMWonder why the Prometheus film didn't deal with a water-based lifeform, other than the black goo and the aquatic design - d'oh!
Mountains was pulled (for whatever 'likeness' reason) but G.D.T. HASN'T gone to see Prometheus, yet.

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 3:24 AMtankgirl,
this 'missing filming from spain' might be a(n accounting) red herring, as was the Morocco shooting and other stuff.
Films are big complex things, and schedules (budgets) change all the time.
Forget Alicante - never happened.

I just really want to hang onto some idea...with the hope of the sequel
If we think about it hard enough and talk about it enough
maybe throw in some Higgs Bosons
it might appear! ha ha ha ha ha ha
Thanks for the info FreePlanet

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 8:42 AMWhat a great find, tankgirl. And a rather sad one.
It’s a shame that Guillermo Del Toro may never film H P Lovecraft’s ‘At The Mountains of Madness’ because of the similarity. We could have watched them back-to-back.
Only joking.
BTW, I stopped reading HP Lovecraft when my mom kept handing me HP Sauce at breakfast. I liked what came out of that bottle but I just had this image …
Not joking. LOL

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 10:49 AMI have read all of H. P. Lovecraft's work as a teen and love them all. Fuel for nightmares is all I can say.

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 5:34 PMIf you are really into HP Lovecraft like I am. Then you guys should look up a podcast called HP Lovecraft literary podcast. It is narrated by two guys by the name of Chris Lackey and Chad Fifer. Each episode of the show talks about every single story that HP wrote. They give there opinions on why he wrote it, and so on. They have guest speakers and guests in general talking about HP life, and his work. The show is very entertaining and fun. The hosts are great. Also you will be amazed at how much HP Lovecraft has influenced science-fiction. But in the end he died poor and alone. But now he is getting the respect he deserves. Check out the show guys, you will not regret it.

MemberNeomorphJul-30-2012 8:08 PMI think your on to somethin there TG!
It would make perfect sense that Ridley would base a Prequel on H P Lovecrafts work! Seeing as Giger was hugely inspired by his work, it would make sense!
I think Prometheus is a mish-mash of different influences, including Lovecrafts work, Clash of the Titans (the 1981 version), Sumerian Mythology, Greek Mythology and Norse Mythology (Eitr).
But, I think the Sequel will bring more questions than it Answers also...
The poster was good though!
