Pierce's / Weyland's prosthetic make-up - why?

Old people have some sort of natural dignity, we see one and feel some sort of respect, empathy, willingnes to help etc. On the contrary, Weyland is like a disgusting vampire, wanting only to prolong his life at the cost of others. Is it only me, or his makeup is taken almost 1:1 from Coppola's "Dracula"?

One solid crapping on "the help" and even Mother Teresa would be viewed as an a-hole, so I'm not buying that von Sydow or any other "old" actor couldn't pull off being a selfish jerk.
I believe Pearce was used for flashback purposes in Epimetheus, the sequel (I'm gonna start planting the title in everyone's head).
When it comes to these sort of parts, Hollywood is left with a choice of two ideas: A.) cast a young actor with hideous makeup to make him look old or B.) cast an old actor while using a different actor in flashbacks.
Both have drawbacks (at least in this case choice A.) certainly does), so I'm gonna go off the board and say they chose choice C.) Pearce is related to a Fox exec.

10.11.12’s site has the contemporary Guy Pierce (rejuvenating Max Von Sydow might not have worked?) and he may appear in any sequel? Apart from that, aging him seems arbitrary and makes as much sense as a lot of other things up there on the screen.
@ Red Wolf
'Epimetheus' as a sequel? Veeery sinister. Still, the Alien movies aren't exactly 'Friends'! Roll on 10.11.12 I guess.

because... even when you are old [or young, to that matter] you have features that people tell you are YOU. that's why

tell me this after 60 years of being botoxed etc ;-) - will the features remain? I'd like to see Cher in her 100s. Or maybe I wouldn't, for the sake of my aesthetics and mental health. ;-)

yes, your main features will be there. Unless you get a full facial cirurgy... as in... trying to get a new identity for the Witness Program... or escape Justice... or after getting blown up from an explosion and survive...

He obviously is a Psychopath, he has a total disregard for others, his own children included. Why have only one auto doc which can service males...
I thought the make up was pretty lousy. In this day and age aging prosthetics should not look like a rubber mask....

Red Wolf:
Ahahaha, I made the same thing with "Bob"

Perhaps one too many Old Fashions tonight, David 1: made what "same thing" and how does it relate to Bob?

I started calling the sleeping Engineer "Bob", people caught it.

Wetland's make-up was quite deliberate. He wasn't meant to look normal. He was meant to look like a guy older than 100 years. Not just any old boy, but someone who shouldn't be alive by normal rules (there's a one in ten thousand chance that you will make it to 100). Therefore his life has been prolonged artificially with all manner of medical interventions. God only knows what effect that would have on your skin.

zzplural - that's my point, since I don't believe that Scotty and Linda Lost did something "by mistake". ;)

Yes, we're in agreement, MishaPL.
The matter has been raised many times on the Internet. This one keeps cropping up, so it needs spelling out in black & white.

"..Wetland's make-up was quite deliberate..."
In fact it looking back ,,the cartoonish impression it left was out of charactor for the style of the movie..
When I saw this Weyland image,,it reminded of a charactor in the Dick TRacy film/cartoon strip
But why would RS dheapen a key dharator in this movie? So we wouldn't forget him..even if he never appears in any future installment of the storyline..
Be choicelessly aware as you move through life

I'll be surprised if RS doesn't explain exactly why Weyland looks the way he does on the BR commentary. But I'll ask you: when did you last see someone in Weyland's predicament? Do you know what EMS Recombination does to a body that is 30 years out of warranty? Is it going to look like Mother Theresa? Clue: no, it isn't.
