I know it's become 'de rigeur' that a chestburster takes on some of the DNA of its host in subsequent copies of the 'Alien genome' but this is never explained in Alien, never mentioned, at all. Right? Can we safely assume that such elaborate "DNA-piggybacking" (for something that just wants a 'nice warm place to grow') is as [u]non-canon[/u] as Cameron's superfluous QUEEN, in Aliens? And AVP? And all inbetween, comics included? CANON-discussion begins!
