Plot inconsistencies

The plot has a number of inconsistencies: a) the team is completely disorganized landing without rules of engagement b) elements of the team do not recognize Shaw leadership and face unnecessary and fatal risks c) David the robot is fully independent and take its decisions freely. The exploration leader is not able control his conduit . The general idea is disorganization and lack of competence. One wonders if the script was written with sheer ignorance of exploration team management and creating confusion among viewers. I hope that the hypothesis is wrong. If we consider the movie as a metaphor of mankind, a set of stupid , arrogant and selfish people, the tragic end of all the members except the heroin Show provides the plot another meaning: the weak succumb and the strong survive. It is a metaphor of human life seen on an universal scenario. The discovery of relationship between engineers and xenomophs and humanity is probably linked to this very general darwinistic idea.

I was obsessed with Lost for a spell, but got over it after about 3 seasons. I had different expectations from Prometheus. I figured if the story was horked up a bit, that would be fine with the acting, visuals, and continuity. However, the characters came off as silly and ruined it for me + the plot bobs and weaves a fair amount, which further ruined it for me. I don't mind questioning into the next film, as long as I have a smart story and characters that act accordingly. Unfortunately the film is only pretty! : (

@minchia: I agree with you as far as point A is concerned. However, your criticisms in points b and c are, in my opinion, irrelevant. B= welcome to humanity. C= though im not sure exactly what you are saying/asking with this one?? davids actions/motivations are fleshed out within the framework of prometheus. Also, Lindelof is getting beat to hell here guys/gals. Its really unfair and i think most people engaging in the "beatings" are well aware of the fact that the focused hatred is unwarranted. The problem stems from the fact that some people cant handle the thought of ridley scott creating something they hate so much (and i see how some would not like prometheus. its definitely a departure from alien (as far as the spirit of the film is concerned)). We already know that prometheus was ridley's project. He was involved in every facet of the film. Ridley could have done anything he wanted to with prometheus. I think we are going to see more and more that ridley was involved with many elements in the script etc. If anything, lindelof made prometheus better. I mean..."alien: zero"....with eggs, facehuggers, xenos, and just a tiny bit of Space jockey thrown in for good measure. Christ that sounds like a horrible movie when compared to what we got. It really was time for a departure from the traditional alien/egg romp etc. just my two cents....no right or wrong.

@minchia: a). There was only one rule: Weyland wanted the elixir of life. Nobody knew that they would be facing nasties down the end of a creepy tunnel. The belief was that they would be meeting up with some friends. b). Weyland told the crew that Shaw was the leader. However, Vickers assumed command (Weyland did not know that this would happen). However... ultimately it was David who drove events forward, to further Weyland's very specific quest. Who was actually in charge? Weyland and David. They had quite clear rules of engagement when it came down to it. c). Of course he did. That was the whole idea, to do Weyland's bidding. These are not plot inconsistencies at all. Just your interpretation of events.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

The way movie runs for 1 hour plus XYZ minutes, I am not only going to blame damon but ridley as well.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

Chaos of management was done on purpose to show that everyone had their own agenda. Even when Shaw was told she was in charge, Vickers tried to take control, the crew were rebellious, cowardly yet stupid enough to be brave at the wrong times, plus Weyland was pulling Davids strings in secret with everyone thinking he was dead the whole time!
