MemberOvomorphAug-01-2012 5:23 AMhe actually said this himself in the art of the film "Somebody said it's a skeleton and I said it doesn't have to be, it could be a degraded suit. It's only you saying that because you think you're looking at a bone structure and a rib cage. Why isn't it a suit? if it's been lying there in deep cold, that could be a suit."
i quote again "it doesn't have to be" and it should not have been IMO
and becouse of that we got bald white men, which didnt creep me at all like the original jockey did.

MemberOvomorphAug-01-2012 6:39 AMDon't forget its allot cheaper to do big white men played by actors in some parts! I think this is a big part of the reason!

MemberOvomorphAug-01-2012 6:54 AM@Crabfart probably, i really think that alien should have been left as it is, the derelict a mystery, the space jockey is a dead creature that no one ever knew existed. But Promethues sort of ruined that, now that we know of them and their relation to humans as well as them being bald muscular and humanoid, all i can say is all that feeling that was alien is just empty now with Prometheus.
its funny how we thought this movie was going to be spectacular, but little did we know scotts success (ALIEN) is what also brought him down (Prometheus)

MemberOvomorphAug-01-2012 1:16 PMyes i understand that the ones who want a creepy sci fi horror movie would perfer a scary elephant man creature killing everyone.. yes i also think it would be cool but i really like the direction RS took with Prometheus... A movie to make us the viewers think, which has become very apparent some dont like to do lol... So yes Alien and Prometheus are 2 different types of movies goin 2 different directions. I love my horror movies dont get me wrong but i really dont think we've seen somethng like this brought to the big screen. It carries tons of our real history, myths and beliefs. It riles alot of people up n i love it. Btw im wathing it right now n theyrewaking up the engineer right now. gotta go ttyl

King
MemberOvomorphAug-01-2012 2:25 PMi'm actually starting to appreciate the humanoid look, which reminds me, i had a theory that the engineers suit would meld into their bodies over time just like the pressure suit they are wearing. makes sense to me tbh if the suit later became a part of their skin.

MemberOvomorphAug-05-2012 1:56 PMAgain, don't get me wrong, I LOVED THE ENGINEER guys (both the sacrifice and the pilot), they were both great.
But (as I've already suggested) the Engineer Juggernaut seat MUST BE BACK ENGINEERED from the Elephantine(Oliphantine)Ganesha race (from Alien) that came 'thousands of years' before it.
So, as far as why the smaller, differently finished Engineer seat? is not even the question.
The question is, "When are we gonna meet the REAL Space Jockey Time Telescope Driver race and who's gonna explain THE BIG TATTOED HEAD in the Ampule Room?"
Look at this HERMIT CRAB SHELL CHANGE video ... that (for me) is what a real Oliphant/Ganesha Space Jockey looks like once he's disengaged himself from his TimeSpace Telescope STARGATE Control Chair; stubby undercarriage tail-like extremity and everything.

MemberDeaconAug-05-2012 3:58 PMWell we have to remember that the Sacrificial Engineer Scene was also thousands of years ago.
I still think Ridley will stick with the idea that the Engineers relation to the Alien Space Jockey is again purely that its a Engineer in his Space Suit.
I dont think Ridley would touch upon the Xeno or even the Deacon in Prometheus 2 and he will go explore the Elders and Engineers, but again they look more Human than Alien.
But we just dont know what surprises Ridley will have in Prometheus 2 i think potentially we could be introduced to more than just seeing Humans, Engineers and Elders.

Yes i also liked the jockeys from prometheus. About the elephantine race, i would love to see them too although i would prefer if if they had no relation to the engineers, and i would rather that they were their own mysterious race that didnt have any hand in the creation of the engineers or humans, but rather had a relation to the Alien like they originally did. My opinion is that the jockeys should have been a lone elephantine creepy race that no one knew of, but i dont think we will get that now.

both you and I know that the Space Jockey has been RE-IMAGINED, rescaled, redesigned, repurposed for a New World Order of BLACK PHOENIX FRANCHISIOSITY.
LOL.
It's a pity, and it's a(n original Alien) canon-breaker, a case of editorial denial, but it's the way it went.

Well the Space Jockey did not look very disturbing, it was not as horrific a beast as the Xeno, and maybe they could have gone with a Elephantine look but maybe it would not have had a menacing look to it, we could just get a Gonzo from Muppets.
And remember the Xeno is a predator it has a instinct but like a Lion it is not a manipulative or intelligent creature.
Humans are far from deadly than a Lion, not Physically but in how brutal and cruel and evil out race can be, a Lion is not Evil and i would say that a Xeno is likewise not a Evil creature.
Thus the Engineers are more like us, its not the appearance of them or even their size but the fact you know they are and can be very cruel and evil beings just like us.

MemberDeaconAug-06-2012 11:38 AM"I only wish the new Engineers were indeed taller and more imposing. "
That was the plan.....
The Space Jockey in Alien was aimed to be about 15ft we get that impression thanks to the scale and tricky Ridley used via using Child Actors in Space Suits walking up to the chair.
The actual Prob and model that was the Jockey is smaller, and would appear to be about 12ft mark tops. Using the actual Prob Size and the size of the crew when up close to the Space Jockey the Chair Length is about 16ft which gives the Space Jockey a 11-12ft height.
Now i took the Prometheus Chair as being the same size and estimated the Engineer in the Chair would be about 9ft, compared to Fassbender the Chair in Prometheus appears to be about 15ft long and thus the Engineer would be about 8.5ft tall.
The Ghost Engineer running past David was about 8ft tall, the Space Jockey on the walls where about 9-10ft tall. The sarcophagus size compared to the Prometheus Cryo Pods appear to be the size to hold a being of about 9ft Tall.
If we look at the size of the head the crew recover compared to the Space Jockey suits hanging up then again this would correspond with a height of about 9-10ft tall.
If we look at the concept works and drawings then the Engineers are depicted as about 9-10ft tall.
There is a major flaw when Ridley had the Engineer vs Shaw, first the scale compared to the door he entered and then when attacking Shaw showed the Engineer to be no more than 7.5ft tops.
In hindsight Ridley should have done camera trickery like they used to make the Hobbits appear small in Lord of the Rings, to make the Engineer look taller.
Adding all the above together it would appear the aimed height of a Engineer is about 9ft but vary between 8ft to 10ft.
Now some of the Production staff (and i think Ridley) did say that the Engineers where a race of about 9ft tall Humanoids.

Lol guess your right, but anyways been sitting here doing some fast sketches, a mix between the jockey with the engineer, basically some features from the old jockey like the trunk and mouth mixed with the pale white almost humanoid shape of the engineer. Turns out it looks pretty nice I gotta say.

MemberOvomorphJan-21-2013 7:07 PMDo you really think that the creatures we call 'Engineers' are really the superior species that designed, tested, follow-up, evaaluated an basically Engineeered humans?
I am glad the 'Engineer family is in our movie but to me they didn't come across as gods that could evelop goo.
I would call the tall white and bio-mech dude in the orrey as tools used by the Creators to get human's attention.
And judging by the posts it has worked.
At least the Creators have not, so far, been depicted as having 6 legs , 4 arms and claws for doing work. I would like to see them tie their shoes or build a electronic circuit board with their bodily equipment.

I have seen peoples concepts before Prometheus even came out. Usually they showed either a bald humanoid in a suit with an oxygen mask and tube hooked up to his face. The other was a creature with an elephant trunk carrying alien eggs in the cargo bay. I like the way RS made the new and imrpoved Engineers. It brings the story to a whole new level and can take it to the deepest parts of our imagination. The ancient astronaut idea is where its at to me. Even if they weren't these human-esque beings they still would have to be an ancient alien. Im really glad that RS still kept the elephantine look even on the cro-masks.

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2013 12:37 PMnow here's the thing, alien was never about ancient alien like Prometheus is, the ancient astronaut idea came about at the time sphaits was hired. alien was the exact polar opposite, it was inspired by Lovecraft. the original writer and creator of the alien character and the space jockey conceived the space jockey as a grotesque and out worldly being that bears no resemblance to humans.
the whole idea for alien was to show how humans are insignificant in this vast universe, the space jockey was meant to not have any relation to humans nor had a hand in its creation. its appearance was meant to be very inhuman, like something out of call of Cthulhu. even H.R . Giger was very much inspired by Lovercrafts work thus the alien appearance of the Space Jockey.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2013 6:14 PMThats where you and I disagree because the SJ in the movie was going to be inside a pyramid instead of a downed space ship. They later changed the concept to the derelict. Dan O'Bannon came up with the ancient alien design way before H.R. Giger was hired to do it. Well I am glad they changed it to its present look and story instead of an ugly elephant man. Humanoid but no relation to mankind huh?!....Two arms, two legs and a smart brain yeah that sound nothing like a human....?!

MemberOvomorphMar-17-2013 8:44 AMi respect your opinion but technically Dan Obanon was also inspired by Lovecraft, thus he hired Giger. the ancient astronaut idea did not come untill Jon spaihts wrote the alien prequel script so he can tie in the human and jockey story together and originally even scott stated in the prometheus commentary "At the time i never would have thought it to be anything other than a skeleton" just recently the ancient aliens idea came about, Scott himself also said the idea of it being a suit came years after he'd done alien.
But dan was always a fan of Lovecraft and his work, making the space jockey look outworldy, although it has some humanoid designs it still has the appearance of an alien.
