Questions for those who think Prometheus "worked"

In another thread, I commented that I don't think Prometheus "worked" as a stand-alone film; that it felt entirely like the first chapter of a longer (2-film or 3-film) story. Others disagreed with me, so I have a couple of questions for those who disagree: For those of you who think that Prometheus worked as a stand-alone film: 1. Would you recommend Prometheus to someone who hadn't seen any of the other Alien(s) films? 2. And, if so, do you think that they would come out of it feeling that they had been presented a complete, self-contained, meaningful, and satisfying story?

1. Yes I would recommend anyone who hasn't been introduced to the Alien films to watch Prometheus first since its story and chronological place in the series stands before the first 4 Alien films. 2. Well thats the thing my friend, Prometheus is the first prequel in a series of prequels that will eventually lead up to Alien. So to be technical here, Prometheus isn't a "complete" prequel to the Alien franchise. Its the first part in a 2 to 3 part series that predates the Alien universe.

So, you admit that Prometheus does not stand alone? And that if a sequel to this prequel never gets made, Prometheus will have been kind of a waste of time?

Prometheus is a prequel to the Alien universe. Not THE direct prequel to Alien. Which ever future sequel to Prometheus directly links both the series together will be THE direct prequel. Prometheus is like the first piece in pie. Obviously there's more than one piece that makes up a pie and those other pieces are the sequels to Prometheus. And no I don't think Prometheus stands alone. I believe it lives in the same universe as Alien. And belongs in the same series as the first 4 Alien films. Chronlogically it is placed before them. So I would watch Prometheus before I watch Alien and so on. I don't think Prometheus would of been a waste of time, rather it would of gave us a greater insight into the creatures we call the Space Jockey from the first Alien film. And it would of shed greater light on the Weyland family and its history. So whether or not they do flesh out the story of Prometheus, I don't care. I still think it was worth it. But I do really hope they do make future sequels that will explain all this.

after AVP-R ....yes although i wished that prometheus would have been more horror themed like alien was but then again different atmosphere. In terms of it being in the same universe or not, i wish it wasnt :P kind of destroyed the mystery of the jockey for me now knowing it was just a bald being in a suit and they a created humans as well as serve a higher being which totally destroys that feeling about the jockey being a creepy lone mysterious race that we knew nothing of originally , otherwise it was a generally good film, and yes i feel that a sequel is needed, felt like they were running out of time so they crammed all they could in there which wasnt enough i'm afraid.
