2001 singing ushers in the next Evolution

MemberOvomorphAugust 14, 2012979 Views1 RepliesSo it's been said Ridley looks at 2001 and hates it then the next day he thinks it's brilliant. I think he wanted this to be his 2001. Minus the terrible writing for most of the cast, I think he and the two writers achieved that. People either hate it or love it. Non of us understand it without months of forum searching, it's confusing there's no clear answers. Yet it is as big of an idea of any other SF film. Sure all of them have aliens creating us or as in 2001 helping life evolve. But never has that creator wanted us dead. Credit to Spaihts for making them human. In a subliminal way it told the audience were the aliens. Then we must give credit to Damon for going beyond another alien movie and reaching for something more epic. Sure the other characters sucked but they got the main concepts right. This could have been just another alien facehugger film.
Ok to my point The red space suit after Shaw aborts the alien is a dead give away. But I wonder how many got the other reference
Kubrick used the high pitched singing to symbolize the monolith helping us to evolve. No doubt that's what Ridley had in mind when the trilobite got his engineer.
