MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 1:57 AMlisten to how this reviewer REALLY APPRECIATES Holloway: and Lindelof - he forgets that Lindelof, executive producer, was FAR MORE RESPONSIBLE than most critics give him credit for.

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 3:52 AMI think he's really missing the point that you're not supposed to like Holloway. Holloway is meant to be reckless, discourteous and blinded by his idea of who/what he's supposed to be meeting. Does he imagine for one moment that RS played that character out imagining that the audience is going to love this guy?
Why this commentator bothered to remind the world of these facts in an 11-minute diatribe is beyond me.
Also, he forgot to mention that there were a bunch of people on a space ship - an obvious copy of countless previous sci-fi movies. And Bishop pacing the Sulaco being a 2001 A Space Odyssey rip-off.
Mind you, it's quite a while since I've heard anyone speaking in quite so tetchy a manner. The dramatic exhalations do add to the effect.

I loved the way he couldn't resolve exactly which expletive to use to cement his ire.

MemberFacehuggerAug-17-2012 5:35 AMThis guy is brilliant lol -love it - yer they cant detect worms green goo or black goo but its ok to take your helmets off lol! That really shows to level of intelligence of that scene! Holloway is supposed to rub people up the wrong way but why the rest of the crew act this way is unbelievable (hes not supposed to be retarded as well) and yes bits of the rest of the film suck balls too :( ...I think hes posted this video cos of guys like you zz plural lol!

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 6:09 AMHe's not brilliant. And he's having a moan primarily because Holloway irritates him. But what he doesn't get is that Holloway is supposed to be an irritating person. The director pushed his buttons just the right way in that respect.
Look up the definition of reckless. Holloway says something like "Don't be a sceptic". He was carried away by his firm belief that he was there on invitation to meet his makers. Nothing was more important to him. People with strong beliefs sometimes do very strange things.

we get it, you don't. This guys is BITTER and TWISTED and all because he thought Prometheus would be GOOD.
And we love his heartfelt horror at what he's just watched.
I know, I know, but it needs to be said; Scott didn't deliver. Sorry.

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 7:50 AMIt's very sad when people get bitter and twisted for completely the wrong reasons, isn't it. Like complaining that they saw a flawed character on screen, or slipping into the guise of an armchair scientist and demanding that their point of view must be correct. I'd like to see an actual dog barking up an empty tree one day - I'm sure it would be most amusing.
Scott made this amazing movie and he delivered big time. The great majority of viewers believe it to be a very good movie. It's been attacked many many times, but virtually every ill-thought out complaint and alleged mistake has been rebutted one way or another.

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 8:34 AM@zzplural- Couldnt agree with you more, the level of shrill dismissal for this film is comical, and becoming trite as well. OH MY GOD IM SO OFFENDED MY EYES HAVE GONE TO MUSH! Maybe it would soothe folks to arrange a lawsuit.

MemberFacehuggerAug-17-2012 9:02 AMAnyway I im still laughing at the fact: " they cant detect worms green goo or black goo but its ok to take your helmets off lol! "
If you cant see that as a problem then your lost lol !
And I think you'll find the majority of people outside this forum thought the film was average or below I am afraid! Gone is the chance of this being a classic if there's no directors cut.
And even if we say Holloway was meant to be stupid how about the rest of the crew - they are supposed to be retarded scientists? Hmm great film making that !

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 9:14 AMAs sad as it is but I think it was an accurate depiction of the scientists...I mean did you see how much alcohol Holloway drank and what's to say he wasn't hitting the bottle right out of hyper sleep? Do you really think Fifield was smoking Tobacco I mean really if your going to go all the way to put a bong in your helmet. These characters are supposed to be messed up cause they are societies finest on their way to hell. From all the alien movies I've seen... if I was a scientist going to a new planet to find Aliens: I'm going ripped and wasted! Plus it's the future, computers and machines take on a lot of the responsibility so humans can party all the time.

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 10:33 AMI thought Holloway was a great person and a superb scientist in the extreme. I can't give enough credit for what he did throughout the film.

Art DirectorMemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 4:41 PMIt comes across like teenage agnst. In psycholigy it is called PROJECTION - find something (or a person... in this case a film) and throw your self hatred and frustation of yourself at chosen target, kinda childish really.
After seeing anticapation growing to insane levels, it just strikes me as someone who saw a film that didn't fit the required landescape HE had built. The same thing happened to Alien 3, alot of folkswere expecting ALIENS 2...

MemberOvomorphAug-17-2012 6:53 PMOk. Here's my 2 €! First criticism goes to myself for actually still caring about this film! Seriously, I wish I was never an ALIEN fan! But thats my problem! Second, I must say I love this guy! Why? Not for any particular drivel (although the prophanity is precisely on que), it's for the venting of this unbelievable fustration over this film! I never in a million years imagined the prequel could have sucked as bad as it did! And finally, C. I enjoy hearing anyone trying to express candid and real sentiments about this work of celluloid myopathy...

My God, you're so right. I'm going to stop posting on forums that The Shining is an awful film because the Jack Nicholson character is so objectionable! Now I've seen the error of my ways, perhaps I'll convince myself that Psycho has one or two redeeming features!

MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 12:54 PMAs much as I liked the film, I thought that Logan Green wasn't right for it, and perhaps also the character wasn't as realistic as it should be. Sometimes a screen writer or director *wants* a character to be a certain way, and that's fine. But in this case it turned out to be just not believable enough. The Holloway character was supposed to be a risk taker, adventurous, according to Ridley. That's cool. But unfortunately what I saw was more than that. I saw a punk kid. I saw reckless. I saw too much cocky for a "genius" scientist on a mission to an alien planet. I saw a kid who just wanted to "open his presents" and screw everything else. In fact, there was no indication that he was a genius at all! It was never exposed. He just acted silly and stupid. I don't expect everything to be the way I want, but I think this cast choice and character choice for this movie didn't really work well.
It didn't take away too much from the movie, but I'm glad he's gone and won't have to worry about him resurfacing in any sequel!
