I really wish Ridley Scott could have done Bioshock

MemberFacehuggerAugust 24, 20121119 Views19 RepliesI've come across lots of discussions on here about what is biomechanical, but before Prometheus came out Bioshock the movie got shelved. There is still the chance it could be made but I have felt for a long time that Ridleys hand would have done justice to the conceptual artwork and interpretation of what biomachanical is. I like a lot of Giger's work but, Prometheus needed to go in a different direction as I think Giger for the mainstream has become old hat regrettably as a new visual influence.
Go on, who's up for an in depth chat on this subject. Is Art decor having a revival or does Giger still have the magic?

I think BioShock would have / could have been the new Blade Runner of this new era. A step into the dark world of cyber technology and Corporate struggle.
Giger, like other artist are immortalized by their art...

I've never experienced Bioshock firsthand but I am well aware of it and yes without question RS would be the one to bring it. Dude is a monster.

Never seen a Bioshock game, and Giger will never lose his edge, ever.... Good enough opinion?

A film version would be great, but I think Tim Burton would be more appropriate as a director considering his taste for Art Decó, seen in a lot of his films. There's a lot of sparkling, colorful details and weird characters and enemies (Big Daddies) hence a perfect job for Burton!
Nice to see that you all like the games too! Looking forward to Bioshock Infinite then? ;) It looks stunning.

What you have against bioshock man?
If ridley makes yet another movie like prometheus with any new title, I will never ever gonna touch his movies.

Familiar with Bioshock I am not... heh, but big name directors like Ridley don't do videogame movies. The reigns will probably be passed to the likes of Uwe Boll of shit.

Well video game movies are rather interesting compared to prometheus lol.
Lara croft was good and so was AVP.
Bioshock will be good in hands of cameron and micheal bay.

Oh right, I have agree with the prometheus fan or else I have to take the attack. hear hear.

@ Patient Leech, check your movie history...
At one point in time James Cameron put serious thought into making both Spiderman and AVP. But instead decided to remake Fern Gully, with tall blue Thundercats - which just so happens to be the no 1 grossing film ever.
Michael Bay is now best known for making the TransFormers movies, despite having produced the recent influx of horror remakes (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th).
And I get what Sky is saying - Silent Hill the movie is much better than the recycled ideas become prequel become ambiguous spin off that Prometheus became.

When did James Cameron do Spiderman and AVP? Not sure what you mean there...
I actually like Silent Hill. It's not flawless, but it's enjoyable for what it is, which is a moody horror/thriller. I hope the sequel is half-decent.

The reason why I said Cameron and Micheal is exactly how snork mentioned here. Cameron is capable of giving dark feel and Micheal bay is good with destructive stuff, which this movie has to take from the game or else it'll be less thrilling.

@ Patient Leech, I didn't say James Cameron made Spiderman and AVP, I said...

It has taken the movie industry a long time to nail the comic-book adaptation movie, in time someone in Hollywood will find the same recipe to make a decent video game adaptation.

@Snorkelbottom
That's a matter of taste, I would say that Prince of Persia is more than a decent adaption.
August 26, 2012
There was not much FX in prince of persia, on the other hand, john carter was much better in terms of FX.

I love the steampunk stuff and I agree that the movie Prometheus was no darker than many expected, It is possible that the Giger factor is necessary for it (in terms of aesthetics at least). After Prometheus We can not be sure if the sequel will be a dark and terrifying movie, but I don't know, because this could be more epic, in fact an interesting question is...what we really want to see? R vs. PG-13...I know many of you will say R but I believe that Prometheus is not a movie that gives justice to the R rating IMHO.
