MemberOvomorphAug-25-2012 9:43 PM The really weird part is the shots with the "other" fifield were completed about a month before the movie was released on june 1st!!!! wtf!?!?

AdminPraetorianAug-25-2012 9:50 PMTy Bella! yeah I think that version was too similar to the clear domeface of the original Xeno (remember the xeno had a human skull underneath the dome) and Ridley wanted to stay away from that for god knows what reason. I personally love that idea and wish it was used over the drooling dirtbeard face they used instead. :(

MemberOvomorphAug-25-2012 9:54 PMagreed, i love this mutation that was what i was expecting to see in the damn movie!!!
i wish they would release an alternate version of the movie with their rejected concepts that looked way better then what they eventually went with.
and more mutant!!!! i wanted way more screen time for him and i was hoping he would continue to mutate. but BAM he was gone in a flash, BOO!!!

MemberOvomorphAug-26-2012 1:08 AMHaven't seen that second pic before, even though I've got that Cinefex, thanks Jug and Bella. Is it possible the editions with different covers have the odd alternative pics slyly added?
Definitely a BIG yes, agree with most here that that particular visage should've been used in the film - FAR more frightening and insiduous. You're right Svanya, RS should most definitely have expanded on the 'skull-beneath-the-dome' theme - the image has very creepy connotations associated with the personality and soul being eaten by an invasive alien disease - the horror being that there is a vestige of the human left behind to contemplate it's predicament in mute suffering.

MemberOvomorphAug-26-2012 6:48 AMThis version of Fifield...as some had pointed out in previous posts... is what I expected as well, rather than a generica 'drooling' space zombie. That didn't scare me one bit. Seeing this...especially the second pic(you can see Fifield's eye)...And this brings to mind what another said "Suffering in mute silence"...
It looks amazing, frightening, and provides(at least to me) exactly what the black goo does. Overall I would LOVE to see this in the Director's Cut!
I think NECA should put out this version of Fifield in their collection.

MemberTrilobiteAug-26-2012 7:17 AMIt has been widely mentioned that the reason they changed the Fifield makeup to a dirty mutant caveman was because they like Sean Harris' performance and wanted to see that on screen. Although I can understand that principal I disagree with and agree that the more Xeno-ish looking creature would have made sense and looked better. However I suspect there may be a second reason that they changed Fifield's look. Check the GIF below...

Remember, originally the mutated Fifield attacked as Peter Weyland, Jackson, Ford, David and Shaw went to see the last Engineer, but this was changed in the theatrical release, with Fifield's attack happening before Weylands excursion.

BigDave
MemberDeaconAug-26-2012 9:15 AMYes there was two Hanger Scenes and the one we see Weyland in the Hanger, so this scene would not have molded well with the scene in the theatrical release as Shaw only discovers Weyland is alive after.
Another reason they may had gone for the Mutant Fifield is due to the others having too much Xeno DNA, the Two Shots they filmed Fifield still looks human only mutated but the original concept work and two other versions they was working on which are these.

Looked more Alien.... and maybe was not used as Ridley wanted to limit the Alien DNA for the scenes that are what becomes of Shaws Baby and its Life Cycle which concluded with the Deacon Birth.

MemberFacehuggerAug-26-2012 9:26 AMMy understanding was that these more elongated versions of Fifield weren't an alternate mutation, but a further progression of his mutation.. has that been confirmed as not correct?

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteAug-26-2012 9:31 AM@ Patient Leech,
Yes it has been confirmed as not correct, in The Art of Prometheus book.

Should have chose the further mutation look of Fifield, rather than fearing the audience would not understand the process that was happening to him from the liquid alien ingestion. I think Ridley Scott made a mistake in doubting.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 4:54 AMyeap, Weyland, Shaw and David supposed to be in that scene originally

and agree with the clear domeface of the original Xeno

Definitely better than the captain caveman :P

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 5:21 AMgotta admit it is hard to see who she is in that pic!
and yikes... that concept is interesting but i do find things much more intimidating when they have a mouth of some kind.
that mutation has a very placid look to it, reminds me a lot of the facial structure of the original engineer from "alien".

Xenomorph 54
MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 7:41 AMYeah, I also perfer this new one.
It shares more links with the xenomorph...looks like giger's original design for the alien where it aparently had eyes and a face behind the dome.

BigDave
MemberDeaconAug-27-2012 10:44 AMYeah they all look pretty neat as far as Concept goes.
Ridley did say they had to tone down the Xeno DNA a little in the movie, i forgot which interview that came from.
But i think its a valid point and just as i said, and that is they decided to ditch the other more Xeno DNA Fifields so as that the movie does not contain too much Alien Xeno DNA apart from the process that creates the Deacon which starts with Shaws Baby.

MemberXenomorphAug-28-2012 5:08 AMHow much of that mutation can be accredited to worm dna also coming with the xeno dna ?

belladonna
MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 5:58 AM@ xenomorph
the original alien had ocular and nasal cavities like a human skull, but the "dome" was described by ridley as a jelly filled receptive organ similar to an eyeball.. but may/can have the sence of hearing, smell, taste, and sight.... and perhaps more.
i notice in all of the sequels the "dome" has become a hard exoskeleton shell. i prefer the original jelly filled eye/ear/sinus organ myself. i think it is more unique.
the whole hard dome idea makes me see the alien more as just a big bug rather than a unique alien species. they seemed to push that ides in aliens when they referred to them as a bug more than once.

MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 8:03 AMI reckon that shot of the CGi mutated Fifield face on looked awesome - mutating and freaking out in a huge rage under his helmet/head would have really upped the tension of that scene.
I think after all the other CGI magic etc, the prosthetics on Fifield in the movie just look a bit low-rent and very unfinished

Custodian
MemberOvomorphAug-30-2012 4:24 AMPlease, Mr Scott, explain, "What was the reason for axing all those 'alternate Fifield' shots?"
was it a case of 'perceived misidentity' on behalf of THE VIEWER?
was there a 'transform scene' that would have bridged the gap?
was Fifield always envisioned in this EXTRA-DEFORMED state?
why kill all those fx shots done before end of deadline?
PS: where does that xeno-fifield shot come from? Are there others on the net?

MemberOvomorphSep-01-2012 10:34 AMWOW. I really love the look that they did not go with! I really wish that they went with it. And as almost everyone has said, I really hope that this is included in the "Directors cut". And I hope that it come's out with the main release of the film. I do not want to have to buy this a year later when the extended cut comes out.
